5 AWARDS OVERVIEW and specific job qualifications. Workforce courses do not always transfer or apply to academic degree programs at four-year colleges and universities. Some programs have transfer or articulation agreements in place to facilitate the transfer of workforce credits. Check with a department advisor for more information. AAS CURRICULUM 60 Credit Hours The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees require a minimum of 60 credit hours with at least half of the coursework in a common technical specialty area and a minimum of 15 credit hours of general education courses to complement the technical courses in the area of study. The AAS is awarded upon completion of a prescribed program of study. The award is designed to prepare students to enter and compete in the job market. The AAS curricula enables the graduate to enter an occupation with marketable skills, an acceptable level of technical competency, and the ability to communicate effectively. AAS GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES 15 Credit Hours Collin s AAS General Education courses consist of 3 credit hours each from English, Speech Communication, Natural Science or Mathematics, Humanities or Fine Arts, and Social or Behavioral Sciences. Each area has multiple course options as shown. Some Communication Design awards recommend specific general education course(s). The recommendations are noted in each awards map.
