Symantec Encryption Desktop encrypts your computer s hard disk, and encrypts, decrypts, signs, verifies messages, and provides strong security through policies you control. Changes in This Release This section lists the changes in this release of Encryption Desktop. What's Changed in This Maintenance Pack

2 What's Changed in Encryption Desktop for Mac OS X MP4 Resolved the compatibility issues between Symantec Encryption Desktop and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). Symantec identity branding. PGP Desktop has been renamed and is now Symantec Encryption Desktop for Mac OS X. PGP Whole Disk Encryption is now Symantec Drive Encryption. Installing this Maintenance Pack Following are instructions for installing this maintenance pack release. Installation Instructions Important information for administrators: To deploy client installers, you must first run the script that is included in this release package. For instructions on how to run the script, see the READMEFIRST.txt file included in the package. To install Encryption Desktop on your Mac OS X system 1. Mount the Encryption Desktop disk image. 2. Double-click PGP.pkg. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions. 4. If prompted to do so, restart your system. For additional information, including upgrade instructions, see the Encryption Desktop for Mac OS X User's Guide. Note: If you are upgrading your computer to a new major release of Mac OS X (such as from 10.6 to 10.7) and want to use this version of PGP Desktop, be sure to uninstall any previous versions of PGP Desktop before upgrading to the new version of Mac OS X and installing this release. Be sure to back up your keys and keyrings before uninstalling. Note that if you have used PGP Whole Disk Encryption, you will need to unencrypt your disk before you can uninstall PGP Desktop. Upgrading Your Operating System This maintenance pack provides compatibility with Mac OS X To upgrade your computer to the new release of Mac OS X, be sure to use the following procedure. To upgrade your operating system and install this version of Encryption Desktop 1. If your disk is encrypted, decrypt the disk. 2. Back up your keys and keyrings. 3. Uninstall Encryption Desktop. 4. Upgrade your system to the new version of Mac OS X. 5. Install this maintenance release. 6. Import your keys and keyrings.

3 7. Encrypt your disk. Additional Information on This Maintenance Pack This section provides additional information. Also included are additional known issues in this maintenance pack release. For a list of issues in the release, see the Encryption Desktop release notes. All English documentation (online help and installed release notes) references the new product name (Symantec Encryption Desktop and Symantec Drive Encryption) as well as the new upcoming release version (version 10.3). This release is actually based on PGP Desktop version MP4. The localized versions of this maintenance pack do not include rebranded and updated online help or release notes. Rebranded documentation (online help and release notes) are updated and are provided in English only. Symantec Drive Encryption functionality is not enabled on systems encrypted using Mac OS X Filevault. To enable Drive Encryption functionality on these systems, FileVault encryption must be removed and Drive Encryption must be installed using the Symantec Encryption Desktop installation package. [ ] When enrolling to a Symantec Encryption Management Server, be sure you are connected to your internal network using a wired connection. Using a VPN connection (such as that with a wireless connection) results in write errors and an incomplete enrollment. [ ] The PGP BootGuard screen displays at a very small size on systems using the new Apple Retina display screens. All functionality remains intact and you can continue to enter your passphrase to access your system. [ ] Mail.App displays a message Cannot send message using the server [server name]. This message is displayed because Mail.App defaults to forcing using SSL for . To work around this issue: 1. When you receive the message in Mail.App, click Edit SMTP Server List. 2. In the Accounts window, click the Advanced tab, ensure that the option to Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is not selected, and click OK. 3. Close the Accounts window. 4. In Mail.App, click Try with Selected Server. is sent secured without error messages. [ ] Technical Support Symantec Technical Support maintains support centers globally.
