9 Chapter 2: New in this release The following sections detail what s new in Avaya VMware Getting Started Guide, NN for release 8.0. Features See the following sections for information about feature changes: Install and configure VMware appliance The AVG VMware Appliance (AVA) is designed for enterprise or branch office to ensure business continuity. For more information about installing and configuring AVA, see Installing and configuring VMware appliance on page 17. Apply and obtain License The AVG VMware Appliance ships without any license. You can acquire the required licenses from Avaya. For more information about applying and obtaining license, see Applying and installing License on page 33. Open Virtualized Format Support The Open Virtualization Format (OVF) specification describes an open, secure, portable, efficient and extensible format for the packaging and distribution of software to be run in virtual machines. OVF allows for more flexible and efficient distribution of the VPN gateway software. OVF improves portability and allows for platform independence in VM environments and provides Avaya and Avaya customers the following benefits: Simplifies the virtual appliance distribution Simplifies and automate virtual appliance configuration Adds the support for multi-virtual machine configurations Allows for platform independent packaging Adds the opportunity to created localized installation environments. 12 Before you begin Hardware specification The following tables describes the hardware specification for AVG 3050-VM. Table 1: Hardware specification for AVG 3050-VM Virtual Device Configuration Description CPU 2 x86 2.0GHz P4 equivalent processor Memory 1 GHz HDD 20 GB LSI Logic Parallel and SCSI. The HDD should have ample space to store AVG SPO software image in user content file system. Ethernet 4 ports Intel E1000 CD/DVD ROM 1 Required for software installation Serial Port 9600 BPS / 8 bits / No parity bit Console access Note: If you breach the hardware specification for AVG 3050-VM, and configure the device on your own, the AVG detects the changes and limits the number of concurrent session support. In such condition, AVG accepts only 5 concurrent sessions, and rejects the rest of the sessions. Avaya recommends you to configure the device based on the given specification only. The following table describes the hardware specification for AVG 3070-VM Table 2: Hardware specification for AVG 3070-VM Virtual Device Configuration Description CPU 4 x86 2.0GHz P4 equivalent processor Memory 2 GHz HDD 40 GB LSI Logic Parallel SCSI. 13 Limitations The following table describes the hardware specification for AVG 3090-VM Table 3: Hardware specification for AVG 3090-VM Virtual Device Configuration Description CPU 8 Minimum 2GHz processor Memory 4 GB HDD Size 40 GB HDD Type SCSI HDD Controller Type LSI Logic Parallel Ethernet card type/ Vendor Number of Ethernet ports Intel E Gigabit Ethernet Limitations AVG VMware Appliance (AVA) has the following limitations: An AVG 3050-VM Appliance can support concurrent user sessions, SSL and IPSec combined license for each host AVG VM does not support the following features: - Secure Service Partitioning (SSP) - SSL offloading Ethernet bonding (trunking) - Ethernet VLAN tagging - HA capability between 2 physical ESX server devices - Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) AVG VM does not have a hardware acceleration card, so the AVG generates the ssl_hw_fail alarm. Virtual hardware device does not support hardware encryption. Data center class server is required to install VMware ESX server. AVG supports only the automatically generated MAC addresses. If you use manually configured MAC address, the system can neither be licensed nor supported. VMware Getting Started Guide March
