1 June 2017 This guide describes how to upgrade a SonicWall or competitor appliance in MySonicWall using the Secure Upgrade Plus feature. Topics: About Secure Upgrade Plus Using Secure Upgrade Plus About Secure Upgrade Plus As a part of SonicWall Customer Advantage Programs, the Secure Upgrade Plus promotions allow you to enjoy savings on SonicWall firewalls when upgrading from and trading in a platform that you already own. The MySonicWall product registration process captures the details of the trade-in and drives the process. The Secure Upgrade Plus product registration process includes two options: SonicWall Replacement Competitive Replacement Using Secure Upgrade Plus The Secure Upgrade Plus process is initiated during the registration of a new SonicWall appliance. If your new appliance is eligible for the Secure Upgrade Plus program, MySonicWall displays the Secure Upgrade Plus option once the product registration process identifies the new appliance. You can select whether you want to trade in a SonicWall or a competitive device. Then follow the applicable procedure to sign up for the trade-in and complete the registration of your new SonicWall appliance. 2 Initiating the Secure or Competitive Upgrade This section provides the steps for initiating your SonicWall appliance registration and, if eligible, the secure upgrade or competitive upgrade. To initiate SonicWall appliance registration and Secure Upgrade Plus: 1 Log into your MySonicWall account on 2 Click on Register Product or click the Quick Register option on the MySonicWall home page. 3 Type or paste the following information about your new SonicWall appliance and then click Register. Serial Number Enter the serial number of the appliance. This can be found on the label or on the System > Status page in the SonicOS web interface. Friendly Name Type in a unique, descriptive name for the appliance. Product Group Select the applicable product group for this appliance from the drop-down list. Authentication Code Enter the authentication code of the appliance. This can be found on the label or on the System > Status page in the SonicOS web interface. 2

3 4 If the entered serial number is eligible for the Secure Upgrade Plus promotion, the page displays the Secure Upgrade Plus section. 5 Select one of the following options: SonicWall Replacement Select this if you would like to trade in a SonicWall appliance. Proceed to the Making a SonicWall Replacement section. Competitive Replacement Select this if you would like to trade in a competitor s appliance. Proceed to the Making a Competitive Trade-In section. 3

4 Making a SonicWall Replacement This section describes the continuing steps for trading in a previously registered and eligible SonicWall device after initiating the Secure Upgrade Plus process in the Initiating the Secure or Competitive Upgrade section above. To trade in a SonicWall device: 1 Select SonicWall Replacement for the Select Replacement Type option. The page displays the appliances that are eligible for trade-in. 2 Select the checkbox next to the unit you want to trade in and then click Submit. 4

5 3 The page then shows the selected unit serial number and displays the Secure Upgrade Plus agreement. Read the terms and conditions and then click I Agree. 4 In the Apply Secure Upgrade page, select the device to be replaced by enabling the checkbox on that row in the Trade-In Unit(s) table and then click Continue. 5

6 5 The Transfer Services page displays the details for the trade-in. Do one of the following: To proceed with the trade-in and transfer the active service licenses from the old unit to the new one, click Register and Transfer. To delay the trade-in and services transfer, click Register Only. You can resume the trade-in process later by navigating to My Promotions in the MySonicWall left navigation pane. See Using the Promotions Page for more information about using the Promotions page. 6 Upon successful transfer of services and completion of the entire Secure Upgrade registration process, you are redirected to the Service Management page for the new unit. The page displays a reminder to activate your support contract and to upgrade the appliance to the latest firmware. 6

7 Making a Competitive Trade-In This section describes the continuing steps for trading in a competitor s device after initiating the Secure Upgrade Plus process in the Initiating the Secure or Competitive Upgrade section above. To trade in a competitor s device: 1 Read the terms and conditions and then click I Agree. 7

8 2 On the Competitive Trade-In page, fill in the following fields and then click Submit: What product are you replacing with this SonicWall device? Type in a general description of the competitive device. Please specify Manufacturer, Model Name or Number Select the best choice from the drop-down list. Serial Number Type in the serial number of the device. This might be found on the device label, in the device management interface, or in the paperwork or online information for the device. After clicking Submit, the Service Management page for your new SonicWall appliance is displayed. The page shows a message about activating support for your new appliance. 8

9 Using the Promotions Page You can always go back to the Promotions page later and complete the Secure Upgrade Plus process. The page shows the available promotions, history and active Secure Upgrade Promotions. To display the Promotions page, click Support in the MySonicWall left navigation pane to expand the selections under it, and then click My Promotions. Under Promotions History, you can view the trade-in unit history. Click Secure Upgrade in this section to display the recently registered Secure Upgrade Plus details. 9

10 If you chose to delay the trade-in during the Secure Upgrade Plus process, you will have a pending task displayed in the To Do List on the right side of the Service Management page. Click the red Secure Upgrade Transfer link in the To Do List to display the Promotions page. On the Promotions page, you can click the Change option to update the trade-in selection again. 10

11 If you select the SonicWall Replacement option and click Continue, the process proceeds as described in the Making a SonicWall Replacement section. 11
