3 1. INTRODUCTION In using AERMOD, it is necessary to define receptors points in a modeling domain. For example, with LAKES AERMOD-VIEW tool it is easy to build the receptor grid positioned on a source or on a plant. This would usually produce receptors points inside property limit or inside an industrial zone (where standards might not apply for example). On some instances, modeler prefer to retain receptors inside property limit but also have results outside. The objective of the program is to identify receptors point inside and outside property limit (or any other zone) and it will give maximum concentrations. After deleting the original grid, points at the limit or outside the zone can be re-imported in AERMOD. 2. DATA AND INPUT FILE The necessary data are: calculated concentrations from AERMOD; points defining the concerned zone. a)aermod AERMOD data are provided in files produced by AERMOD; it must be an original file with the same name and the same data structure as AERMOD. Files to be treated are listed in the program input file. b)defined zone The points defining the concerned zone (like the property limit, an industrial zone, ect.) are listed in a file and must be in a clockwise or anticlockwise order. These points can be obtained from LAKES AERMOD-VIEW discrete receptor tool by contouring the zone and are listed in output files after a run. c)input file The input file contains a various number of lines. The zecond line names the file (here ZONE.TXT) that contains the UTM-X UTM-Y (model set up in UTM system) and input must be in a clockwise or anticlockwise order; coordinates are separated by a least on blank space as in: The last number in this example (26) is the receptor number of this point; if not, it should specify the point number for example 1 for the first point, etc. and separated by at least one space from the y coordinate. The number of AERMOD results files (*.PLT files) is variable. In this example, the hourly maximum concentrations (01H1GALL.PLT), the daily (24 hours) maximum concentrations (24H1GALL.PLT) and the annual mean concentrations are on input. The *.PLT files from AERMOD can contain at first 8 information lines followed by the data and, at the end after the data, 2 lines giving units according to version used. The first 8 lines can be absent if the no header option was selected. The program checks if the header lines and the last to lines are present. The last line gives the name of the ouput file of the program. As seen above the file names and title must be enclosed beween '. Comments can be listed preceeded by!. 3. OUTPUT FILE WITH RESULTS The output file contains the following: a)the title and the date; b)a list of the *.PLT files on input; c)a numbered list of the UTM-X UTM-Y coordinates of the concerned zone; d)the number of receptors and the number of them at the limit or out of the zone; 4

5 e)a list of the points which are on a vertex or on the side of the polygon defining the zone; their number and the number of vertices; f)the number of points inside the zone and a list of these points; the coordinates are preceeded by the receptor number; g)for each file *.PLT file specified on the input, and for points at the limit or outside the zone, a list of: receptor number coordinates UTM-X UTM-Y concentrations date and hour for hourly maximum values after all the receptors at the limit or out of the zone are listed, the maximum concentration obtained on these points and a repeat of the above information. The same information is given for each *.PLT file on the input. At the end of the listing, a summary of the information is given: name of the *.PLT file; maximum concentration at the limit or out of the zone; coordinates of the receptor; date and time (or period); period. 4. OPERATION The program, the input file AERMODUTIL1.INP and the *.PLT files must reside on the same directory. The program exe file can be copied on the AERMOD results directory which is the *.AD directory for LAKES AERMOD-VIEW. Plot files (*.PLT) must have the naming convention of AERMOD. The output file (in the above example OUTFILE.TXT) and the file with the zone coordinates (in the above example ZONE.TXT) can have their own names including a path name but with an overall maximum of 40 characters. 5.
