**Given:**

Probability to fail in examination P(A) = 0.20

Probability to fail in examination P(B) = 0.30

**Formula used:**

P(A∪B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A∩B)

For the independent event,

P(A∩B) = P(A)P(B)

**Calculation:**

P(A∩B) = P(A)P(B) = 0.2 × 0.3

⇒ 0.06

Now, P(A∪B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A∩B)

⇒ 0.2 + 0.3 - 0.06

⇒ 0.44

**∴ The probability that either A or B fails is 0.44**
