1 What s What in Mobile Production Results of the Third Annual SVG Mobile Production Gear Study For its third consecutive year, the Sports Video Group has taken a representative snapshot of the state of mobile production technology and the industry. The report is a representation of the larger truck companies that were responsible for the majority of the major live broadcast events during All data was collected as part of the Mobile Production Yearbook 2009 publication. 2 SUMMARY OF FINDINGS 61% of the total mobile fleet in this year s sample is HD, up 15% from last year s survey (last year s survey was up 7%) 83% of the total mobile HD fleet are 50 ft+, which indicates that there is still a small but growing mid-size HD fleet of 17%. In terms of length of total fleet, once again NEP is #1 at a length of 1665 ft., followed by Mobile TV Group at 1085 ft Calrec dominates the mobile HD audio console market at 61%, followed by Euphonix at 13% Grass Valley Group edges out Sony as the leader in the HD truck camera leader with 45% versus 43% of the fleet, though Sony has more cameras out there at 514 versus 445 Canon is the dominant lens company in 60% of the total fleet and 64% of the HD fleet, with 1019 lenses in use. 196 EVS systems are in use in HD trucks with DigiBeta being the next most common format at 60 systems Grass Valley Group still dominates the switcher market with 91% of the total market, though its market share drops to 88% in the HD category; Sony is the only other player in the field. Sennheiser is the leading category microphone at 32% of the total HD fleet owning at least one branded mic. Sony and EV are tied in the second slot. 92% of all trucks use a Chyron graphics device (75% Duet, 17% Infinit); among HD trucks Avid inches up two percentage points, and Duet increases by two percentage points page 2
