120/220 Magazine HM401 English Instructions
Battery The button battery supplies power to the magazine s LCD when it is not attached to the camera. When the magazine is attached to the camera, power is supplied by the camera s batteries. Using a coin or suitable screwdriver, remove the battery compartment Cover Screw, see Fig. 1. Insert a CR2032 battery according to the polarity markings inside the battery compartment, and then replace the Cover Screw, see Fig. 2. When the battery is exhausted, immediately remove it and replace it with a new battery. When there are no batteries in the camera, the Safety Retraction Feature is enabled. When this feature is active, the dark slide cannot be removed from the Magazine and film advance and shutter operation is locked. Setting the ISO Speed The ISO value is the basis for calculating exposures. An incorrectly entered value may result in over or under exposures. Use the Up and Down Arrows, Fig. 3, to select the correct ISO value. After selecting the value, press and hold the two buttons simultaneously for more than a second to lock the value into the magazine s memory. The value will be written to the memory within five seconds. The ISO speed is not set if the ISO indicator is blinking. Information about the ISO value, the type of film and the number of exposures is stored in the magazine s memory. If the battery s capacity has dropped during stand-alone use of the magazine, this information may not be displayed on the LCD, or the display may show erroneous information. Consequently, it is important to replace the battery when its capacity is low.
Attaching the Film Magazine to the Camera 1. Remove the Magazine s protective cap and the camera s rear cover. 2. Fit the Body Coupler of the magazine into the Body Channel of the camera and make sure that it s properly centered, see Figs. 4 and Push the magazine against the camera body until it snaps into place. After the magazine snaps into place, you will hear the shutter closing. Detaching the Film Magazine from the Camera 1. Insert the dark slide into the magazine, Fig With your thumb, push Button C down and simultaneously push Button D in. The magazine will separate from the camera body, see Fig. 7. When the magazine is removed from the camera body, the shutter will automatically open. The magazine cannot be attached or detached unless the dark slide is fully inserted into the magazine. Loading Film into the Magazine
1. Open the magazine s Back Cover by first pushing Button E down and the Button F, Fig Remove the film insert from the magazine by squeezing the insert s center 645 block between your fingers, and then pulling it out of the magazine. When you load film for the first time, remove and discard the paper cover attached to the magazine. 3. Set the film type to either 120 or 220 by pushing and holding the pressure shaft (H) located under the 645 block. This frees the pressure plate and allows it to be set to either 120 or 220. Be sure to align the lock pins with the holes in the pressure plate. The film type will be displayed on the magazine s LCD. 4. Attach an empty film spool to the take up side of the insert by flipping the insert s lower film clip SPL away from the spool, inserting the spool, and then closing the SPL clip. 5. Flip the insert s upper spool clip FILM away from the spool. Fit a roll of film into the insert, and then close the FILM clip, Fig Attach the film s leader paper to the empty spool, Fig. 13. Gently pull out some of the leader and insert the tip of the leader into the slot in the take-up spool. Rotate the spool a few times to wrap the leader around it. 7. Insert the loaded film insert, with the feed spool on top, into the magazine by squeezing the insert s center latches together until you hear a click, Fig Close the Back Cover by pushing the upper part of the cover firmly. 9. After attaching the magazine to the camera body, pull out the dark slide and push the Shutter Release Button down halfway. This will automatically feed the film to the first frame. Place the dark slide in the magazines storage pocket, Fig. 16. Removing the Film from the Magazine When the last exposure is taken, the camera automatically winds the film on the take up reel and the LCD displays End. 1. Push the magazine s Back Cover Release Button to open the Back Cover. 2. Squeeze the insert s release latches and remove the insert from the magazine. 3. Flip the insert s SPL spool clip away from the spool and remove the film. 4. Fasten the film s paper backing with the adhesive sticker to prevent the film from unwinding. 5. Move the empty spool from the top to the lower compartment so the insert will be ready for a new roll of film. 6. Install the insert into the magazine and close the magazine s Back Cover.
Removing a Partially Exposed Roll of Film Insert the dark slide into the magazine and press the Shutter Release Button and the Forced Film Advance Button simultaneously. The film will be wound on the take-up spool and End will be displayed on the LCD. Cautions Do not load or unload film in direct sunlight. Exposed film should be placed in a light-tight container and set to the lab for processing as soon as possible. Never attempt to remove the magazine from the camera body in the middle of film winding. A frequently used product should be periodically inspected by your authorized Mamiya dealer. To prevent damage to the electrical contacts, remove fingerprints, chemicals, etc. from the contacts with a dry, soft cloth. If you equipment is not to be used for a long time, remove the batteries from the camera and the magazine. Do not continue to photograph after the taking last exposure. Doing so may damage the shutter. The magazine is not waterproof. If the magazine gets wet, immediately dry it with a soft cloth. If you haven t used your equipment for a long time, shoot several test rolls to make sure your equipment is functioning properly.
