4 HOW TO INSTALL A HARD DRIVE TO YOUR NVR/DVR 1. Turn the NVR/DVR upside down. To gain access to the inside, use a phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws. 2. Flip the NVR/DVR over and gently remove the top. You will see the motherboard with various components and two cables to connect to your hard drive. Try minimising any contact with the motherboard. 3. Place the hard drive as illustrated and connect the data and power cable to the relevant connections on the drive. Make sure they are firmly connected. Now place the hard drive within the case. Make sure all cables are resting on top of the hard drive and not underneath. 4. While holding the hard drive, gently turn the NVR/DVR over and secure the drive in place using the supplied mounting screws. You may have to move the hard drive slightly to align the screw holes with the case. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to fasten. 5. Place the top back onto the NVR/DVR and fasten the remaining screws. Note: This page is an indicative guide and some models may have subtle differences. Page 4

9 WHAT IS A PTZ CAMERA? PTZ stands for Pan, Tilt and Zoom camer. PTZ cameras are an ideal solution for monitoring any kind of space whilst maintaining a high level of detail, even at night as it can see clearly up to 50m/164ft in the dark - a combination of a high quality CCD image sensor and six built-in infrared LED arrays. Powered by an electronically controlled pan and tilt system that rotates 360º with a 10x optical zoom lens that s great for getting up close to what you want to see, PTZ dome cameras let you effectively monitor a large range of locations without the hassle of multiple cameras - nothing will be out of sight for long! Also included is a fully functional OSD controller that gives more experienced users the option to play with various advanced camera settings through the On-Screen Display menu Mounting Bracket - Use the wall-mount arm for 4. Infrared LED Array - High-powered LEDs are used mounting to a wall, post or similar vertical surface. Camera Lens - The camera lens is located here. although you might notice a faint red glow coming from the front of the camera. 5. Infrared LED Array Sensor - This detects incoming 3 4 light to control the infrared LED arrays. 5 Page 9
10 HOW TO CONNECT A PTZ CAMERA The RS485 connection is used to access the PTZ and OSD features and requires wire terminals to be attached to the RS485 plug provided using RED to + (or A socket) and BLACK to - (or B socket) as marked on the plastic sheath of the connector near the screws. The video and power cable adds distance to the camera connectors which allows you to easily connect to your DVR in another location. When connecting the wires to the RS485 plug(s): Use a precision flat-head screwdriver. Ensure the wires are held firmly and won t slip out over time. Don t use too much force. The camera s on-screen display (OSD) is controlled using the DVR s PTZ interface. The OSD Controller is an optional, advanced feature and recommended only for experienced users. The camera will work perfectly well if you never attach the OSD Controller - it will regulate all its settings automatically. If your DVR has this type of connection for RS485 and alarm devices, don t use the RS485 plug to connect the camera to the DVR. The RED and BLACK cables plug directly into the RS485 connection. Use a flat-head screwdriver to push-in the orange lock so the cables are securely fastened. Page 10

13 HOW TO INSTALL A DOME CAMERA To get the best results, the location where the camera is installed is very important. Carefully consider the distance between the camera and its subject to ensure it s close enough for you to obtain a good detailed view of the subjects areas in focus. Also think about the appropriate mounting places where it won t be an easy target for vandals or affected by constant light reflections. General Guidelines As the camera can pan a full 360, installing it in a tight corner is not the ideal solution. Ensure that the camera is located close enough to what you want to monitor to ensure that you capture the required details. Try to place the camera in a position that a potential security threat will find it difficult to avoid. Install the camera in a shady spot. Even though the camera is weather and water resistant, prolonged exposure to adverse weather conditions may eventually damage and affect its performance. Run cables inside a wall cavity or other protected enclosure, and ensure that all the connections are safely sealed away from rain, direct sunlight and potential vandals. Attaching the Mount 1. Run the cable through the mounting arm or bracket you would like to use. 2. After the cable has been pulled through, attach the mounting arm/bracket onto the dome. 3. Secure the dome and mounting arm/bracket using the two screws supplied. Mounting the Camera The camera can be mounted onto a flat surface using the supplied mounting hardware. The surface must have sufficient strength to hold the camera. Materials such as hardwood, brick or masonry are good options. You can mount the camera onto a metal surface, but you ll need to supply your own mounting hardware. 1. Position the camera in the desired location. Mark the four screw holes on the surface, and then secure the camera using the provided screws. 2. If mounting to a wooden surface, then screw the camera directly. For brick and masonry, use the supplied wall plugs. Note: Some variation may occur in configuration from model to model. Page 13
