2 What is a Networked Neighborhood? A networked neighborhood is merely neighbors putting resources together such as their camera systems to help protect the entire community. A networked neighborhood offers residents the security of safety in numbers by utilizing your neighborhoods most useful resource: The Internet. By using your current high-speed internet connection, you can now have digital high definition CCTV cameras installed at your home for minimal cost and then playback video from your camera using your smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop PC. As an added security feature, all files from the community can be backed up to a server to be used by law enforcement.

3 How does it work? New technologies are now available to consumers that allow you to have multiple CCTV cameras watching your home without the high cost of installation and maintenance. No longer do you need a separate DVR (digital video recorder) to maintain videos and pictures of all your cameras. New IP (internet protocol) cameras have built-in storage recording, Built-in web servers, motion detection and are smart phone compatible. The same features that use to be only in high end DVR s (digital video recorders) are now available in high quality IP cameras.

4 What's the cost? Each camera runs about $ 450-$500 per camera installed and programmed. (every house is different, but most homes will be very close to this price) Camera add-ons and options are also available such as: motorized lens, infra-red spot lights, 360 degree viewing, pan-tilt-zoom, microphones, NAS (network attached storage) No monthly fees The camera belongs to you, its yours. Sorry, but you are limited to 255 cameras per network. In addition to on-board camera recordings, you can also record to your tablet, smart phone, laptop or desktop PC.

5 What does Installation Involve? Mounting the camera in useful position on your front porch/garage/back yard are all useful to capturing thieves and vandals. 1 network wire per camera must be run to your home internet connection / router A small hole (about 3/8 ) must be drilled to run the network cable into your home (usually through the attic on single story homes or in between the walls on 2 story homes) However the camera is mounted, whether on stone, brick, wood or vinyl fascia; if the camera is removed, all holes used to mount the camera and run the wire can be filled easily To see your camera on your smart phone or tablet you will have to download a free app from either Google play or the Apple Store depending on your phone type (Android or iphone)

6 Do I have to put the cameras on the internet? No, the cameras will work just fine on your local network, but you will not be able to see your cameras when away from home. They will record as normal and can be accessed while at home even across a wireless connection (if you wish) By putting the cameras on the internet, we can save copies of all neighborhood cameras footage onto a cloud or ftp server. That way there is a back up of all neighborhood camera footage for months at a time. This is very useful for the police to track criminals through the neighborhood and to see multiple burglaries or attacks.

7 How long can each camera record? It depends if you choose to record 24-7 or just motion detection only recording with 128GB storage can give you about 14 days of recording time. Motion detection with 128GB of storage can give you up to 30 days recording time. (it depends on how much motion there is at each camera) This is recording per camera, does not include offsite cloud storage; which can be around 6-8 months worth of recording.

8 How does this help the neighborhood? The more cameras in the neighborhood, the more likely you or your neighbors are of seeing and recording suspicious or illegal activity. Crooks scope the neighborhood for an easy score (open garage, packages, open windows, trash boxes that contain electronics set out at the curb, etc..) They are also looking for cameras throughout the neighborhood. If you have a camera on the front of your house, not only can you see who is at your front door, but you can see your driveway, the street and the sidewalk. Which means you can see anyone walking or driving down your street. To police, this is critical evidence placing certain criminals in your neighborhood at a particular time. Faces, vehicle descriptions and tag numbers can all be recorded by the cameras. This can also help if someone steals packages from your front door step while you are away. This is also why I recommend a cloud backup of your camera (s). If your not home when your house is burglarized, you may not be able to get to the recorded evidence immediately on your cameras, but with a backup recording system off site, we can give the info and footage to the local authorities immediately. Also the crime may be seen by neighbors cameras as well. Your camera may not get a tag number, but your neighbors might. Too many times theft has occurred in your neighborhood with no one to see it. Also being the first residential community in the area to have the N2SP (networked neighborhood surveillance program) works as a great deterrent when broadcast over the local news channels (which we will do)

9 Has anyone else done this? Not in this area. Edgewater may become the first of many. The technology just became available, recently. I have installed many of these systems in Washington D.C., Pentagon City, VA., Crystal City, VA., Falls Church, VA. And many more in the Metro DC Area. The idea comes from Capital Shield City wide CCTV program in D.C., the system which I worked on for Kastle Systems International for the last 2 years. Google it if you like, its working well in DC.

13 Advantages over traditional DVR CCTV Systems With older systems, the DVR combined all the video in one location which is ok as long as the DVR or one of its components does not fail. The DVR was also the biggest cost with good residential CCTV systems (usually around $650 for a 8 channel DVR) With IP CCTV, each camera acts independently and can be programmed individually from other cameras. If one camera should fail, the other cameras are unaffected. Older systems required Siamese cable: A cable that has both coax and 18-2 power wires combined together. IP cameras require only Cat5e or Cat6e with POE (Power over Ethernet) IP will eventually replace all standard analog and digital video devices. It is becoming the new standard. HD Analog cameras are currently limited to 2MP (except for SDI) IP cameras are up to 10MP and are increasing weekly.
