2 Accurate and repeatable loading system Unlike traditional hardness testers the DuraVision is based on a load cell system. The load cell technology implies that test loads are applied via a closed loop control unit with a load cell, DC motor and electronic measurement and control unit. The technique ensures the highest possible degree of accuracy and repeatability during load application, as the common over- and undershoot from dead weight systems is eliminated. The absence of mechanical weights not only eliminates friction problems but also makes the equipment less sensitive to misalignments caused by vibrations. Additionally, the servicing of the machine becomes much simpler as load adjustment and calibration is performed via the software and not by dismantling the machine. As illustrated on the pictures the anvil on DuraVision-200/-300 can be expanded with the modular test anvil extensions, to support even the largest samples. The maximum size of the anvil is 740 x 415 mm (29.1" x 16.3") and each anvil extension can support a weight of 200 kg (450 lbs). Due to the size and accessibility of the anvil you can easily load and off-load large and heavy samples, for instance with a fork lift. The V-concept DuraVision-200/-300 Effective and sturdy hardness testing In opposite to the traditional manual z-axis spindle concept of the DuraVision-20/-30, the DuraVision-200/-300 is based on a V-concept with a motorized test head and a fixed test anvil. This concept is ideal for large/tall and heavy sample and ensures stable testing conditions and no spindle effects an otherwise common source of error in hardness testing. Furthermore the constant working height on the machine ensures ergonomic working conditions as the sample is always placed in the same height above the floor. Due to the fixed test anvil the limitation for sample weight is also virtually eliminated. The motorized test head of DuraVision-200/-300 enables easy testing of large and heavy samples and ensures ergonomic working conditions.

4 Automatic start upon clamping, automatic unclamping for easy and effective hardness testing Due to the motorized test head of DuraVision-200/-300, you have the possibility of selecting an automatic start of the test cycle once the nose cone of the test head moves into and touches the sample. You can also choose that the nose cone automatically retracts (unclamps) to a certain distance, for instance 50 mm, once the test cycle has finished. The operator therefore does not have to manually move the test anvil or up or down before and after each test, greatly simplifying the testing and saving significant amounts of time. This feature is particularly suitable when performing high volume testing of similar sample types, for instance as part of an inspection job, or when testing large and heavy samples. Furthermore it provides more ergonomic working conditions. The optical system DuraVision is equipped with state-of-the-art high quality optical system, ensuring accurate and repeatable image and hardness evaluation. The focusing, illumination adjustment and image evaluation is carried out fully automatically on all models. LED system for uniform illumination intensity The illumination source of the DuraVision is based on an adjustable LED system. Traditional hardness testers employ halogen light bulbs as illumination source, however these do not produce a constant illumination intensity - neither during their life time nor during a normal workday. As changes in the illumination influence the calibration (repeatability) of the machine, this is an unwanted effect. The LED however, produces a constant and uniform illumination and also has an extremely long life time ensuring optimal repeatability. Automatic illumination adjustment for easy set-up and execution of hardness tests As something unique the DuraVision will automatically adjust the illumination intensity according to the material surface condition being tested, whether it being bright, dark, polished, ground or etched. This means you will always have the same illumination conditions, no matter the sample being tested. More importantly, this also means the operator does not need to manually adjust the illumination, which otherwise would affect the repeatability and calibration of the system. Experiments have shown that uncontrolled illumination settings can influence the hardness value as much as 5-10%. With DuraVision you just place the sample, select the test method, and DuraVision takes care of the rest. Full repeatability - without influencing the calibration. Integrated optical zoom for increased flexibility of the objective lenses The DuraVision is, as standard, equipped with a 2-step optical zoom. Unlike digital zoom, the optical zoom function is employed without loss of image quality. The zoom function increases the flexibility of the machine and reduces the number of objective lenses needed. Additionally an optional 7-step optical zoom is also available, increasing the total number of zoom levels to 14. And with 5 objective lenses available you will always be able to find an optical solution suitable for exactly your needs. Ring light system for optimal Brinell testing of soft metals The DuraVision is available with a so-called ring light system with dark field illumination. 5 Bright field illumination Ring light with dark field illumination als a significant deformation around the indent will occur. This can make the identification of indent edges difficult, especially on soft and non-ferrous metals. However, by employing a ring light system with dark field illumination the indent edges are easier identified. The ring light system is recommended for Brinell testing of softer and non-ferrous metals (<250 HBW). On the left image, normal bright field illumination has been applied. Due to the material behavior after deformation, the indent edges are not clearly identifiable, making precise and repeatable hardness evaluation difficult. On the image to the right, the ring light with a dark field illumination has been applied. Indent edges are now clearly visible and the material hardness can be measured more precisely. If ring light is installed it can be freely activated or deactivated in the software, depending on requirements. State-of-the-art auto focus technology for fast and easy hardness evaluation An important result of the use of the closed-loop technology is the fast and reliable auto focus system. Since the load cell detects exactly when the indenter touches the sample, the system is also able to bring the objective lens in focus automatically every time. Not relying on an image analysis system and correct contrasting eliminates iterative focusing adjustments and saves a lot of operation time. DuraVision uses the load-cell displacement to focus perfectly on first attempt, even on samples with surface characteristics that are usually hard to focus automatically. Automatic turret Fast and easy exchange of test methods DuraVision is available with a swiveling body or alternatively a 6-position automatic turret facilitating exchange of up to (max.) 6 indenters and/or (max.) 5 objective lenses. The automatic turret can be employed in the entire load range, i.e. from 1 kgf to 3000 kgf. Furthermore an integrated 2-step optical zoom reduces the number of objective lenses required, increasing the flexibility of the machine to an unprecedented level. Regardless of model, the exchange of indenter and lens runs fully automatically. With an automatic turret the tedious task of continuously exchanging indenters and/or objectives lenses is however eliminated, hereby avoiding subsequent calibration and/or potential human sources of errors. As the international standards for hardness testing recommend a re-calibration of the machine upon exchange of indenter or objective lens, an automatic turret is strongly recommended when using multiple test methods.
