Do not disassemble any parts of the microscope not mentioned in the instruction manual. In case of a problem with the microscope, contact Omâno.com, a professional repairman, or the manufacturing factory. Do not touch the bulb while microscope is in use. Bulb will become very hot when in use. Allow bulb to cool before replacing. To prevent fire, do not place combustibles near the bulb. To avoid electric shock or damage to the instrument, unplug the microscope before replacing the bulb. Use only the prescribed halogen or fluorescent bulb. Wear gloves, or cover the bulb with a protective sleeve. Do not touch the glass part of the bulb. Turn off and unplug the microscope before moving. Microscope should be kept at temperatures between 0 C-40 C/32 F-104 F, with a maximum humidity of 85%. Do not place the microscope in direct sunlight or under direct indoor light. This environment can influence the quality of the specimen imaging. Avoid dust. When not in use, cover the microscope with a dust cover. Keep microscope on a level and sturdy surface. 3 Features 1. The OM239P polarizing microscope employs two polarizing filters in the light path. One is called the polarizer and the other an analyzer. By "crossing" the filters, one can examine birefringent (The two components of light, white light minus those colors that are interfering antagonistically, travel at different speeds through the specimen and have different refractive indices, or refringences. Birefringence is the numerical difference between these refringences.) specimens such as calcite or quartz. 2. It can be used in a variety of scientific studies. These include geology, petrology, mineralogy, toxicology, chemistry, pharmaceutics, medicine, forensics, the pulp and paper industry, studying atmospheric pollution, asbestos fiber evaluation and assessing ceramics. 3. Because these microscopes work with polarized light, all lenses in the OM239P microscope are "strain free". 4. 6 3. Binocular head: Place binocular head onto transmission adapter and tighten with bolt. 4. Eyepiece: Insert eyepieces into the eyepiece tubes. 5. Objective: Lower the stage and install objectives in order of magnification. Tighten. 6. Condenser: Make sure whether the screw is in the proper place. 7. Complementary color equipment: Insert complementary color equipment into proper place in need. 8. Filter - It must be put on illuminator. 9. Attachable mechanical stage: Put attachable mechanical stage on the object stage. 10. Adjustment knob -- It is used to adjust center of the objective. OPERATION 1. Illumination: Set light dimming control to the lowest intensity and switch on the power, increasing slowly to desired level. Using the lamp at full brightness is unnecessary and will shorten the bulb life. 2. Focusing: Begin observation of your specimen using the 4X Objective. Turn the coarse focus knob until a clear image is obtained, then use the fine focus knob to enhance the observation of the specimen to its clearest image. When the desired view is obtained under the lowest power (4X), rotate the nosepiece to the next higher magnification (10X). The nosepiece should click into position. Adjust the focusing knobs as needed to once again have a clear view of the specimen. It is important to remember when adjusting the focus that the objective should never touch the specimen. When increasing to 100X magnification, the objective will appear to be very close to the slide. Because the 100X is an oil immersion objective, a drop of cedar-wood oil or other immersion oil should be applied in the gap between the objective and the specimen. (Note: All slides should be prepared with cover slips over the specimen for observation under the 100X objective.) The 100X oil immersion objective should be wiped off with a piece of soft clean cloth or lens tissue to remove the immersion oil immediately after using. 3. Object stage adjustment and center superposition of objective: When the sample is clear enough, find a clear object and let it coincide with the point of cross. Turning object stage, if axes of objective don t coincide with the center of object stage, the point of object will circumrotate around S. The track is circle, and adjust center of objective to let O 1 move to S to see if they coincide or not. If not, please adjust them. 4. Adjusting Abbe condenser: The Abbe condenser can be moved or down by revolving condenser focusing knob. When using high power objectives, it is better to making the condenser up and whereas making the condenser down. Iris diaphragm should be adjusted according to objective lens numerical aperture, in order to obtain better effect. 5. Cross-polarized observation: When Polarized is located in the optical path, its polarization direction is at west-east 0, and the Analyzer is always in the optical path with marked graduation 0-90, adjusting swing rod of the Analyzer and making it aim at the 0 line (at direction of north-south), at that time, the polarizing lenses are at strictly cross-polarized. When using objective 10X or lower. Please remove compensation lens, and adjust condenser to proper place; when using

7 25X and upward high power objectives, please push compensation lens up and put condenser to the highest point. Insert gypsum (λ), mica(1/4λ) sample, quartz wedge into complementary inlet in your need in order to test pixel. 6. View of cone light: View of wimble light is use 25X and upward high power objectives MAINTENANCE 1. If dirt has settled on the lens, wipe it off gently with some lens paper. If alcohol is used, be careful not to let it penetrate through the lenses and dissolve the epoxy. Any dust settled on the lenses can be blown away with an air blower or wiped off with a clean soft camel hair brush or similar. 2. In cleaning mechanical parts and applying non-corrosive lubricant, take special care not to touch the optical elements, especially the objective lenses. 3. Avoid high temperatures. 4. Put objectives and eyepieces into box after using, and keep them in a cool, shady and dry place, free from dust, fumes and moisture. If not stored in its box, cover with a hood to protect from dust. 5. Like other optical instruments, the microscope should be kept out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry place, free from dust, fumes and moisture. It should be stored in a case or covered with a hood to protect it from dust. 6. The microscope has been carefully tested and inspected.
