3 Major Features This model is a high performance real-time recording embedded Linux standalone DVR which can record 16 channels of video and audio at the same time. It provides playback, live display, backup, and network function while it is still in recording. Versatile system configuration can meet most of the system requirements. 9 Chapter 1-4. Remote controller The button arrangement of the remote controller is designed for easy-to-use purposes. Button are separated in regions based on their features including DVR operational keys, pan, tilt, and zoom camera device (PTZ) keys, numerical keys, and PTZ button. 10 Chapter 1-5. Addressable DVR Control Button One remote controller can control multiple DVRs (1~16). To control one of the DVRs, please press on DVR the addressable DVR control button, followed by the DVR ID, then press ENTER to confirm. The rest of the DVRS are in sleeping mode if not being called. For example: To recall #1 DVR, please press DVR and 1. To recall #10 DVR, please press DVR, +10, and 0 Chapter 1-6. Jog & Shuttle During video playback, Jog & Shuttle act as conventional VCR for video stepping forward (rewind) and fast forward (rewind). Chapter 1-7. Symbols & Icons In live monitoring mode, there are symbols and icons on the screen indicating DVR operation status. Visual Keyboard To use visual keyboard, please use button to select one of the characters and press ENTER button. 11 Chapter 1-9. Recall Camera by Remote Controller To recall a camera, please press only on number button. For example, recall camera #1, please press 1 button. Recall camera #10, please press +10 and 0 buttons. Chapter Key Lock Button To prevent unauthorized access, key lock button can be enabled. Once key lock feature is enabled, the front panel and remote controller can no longer operate the DVR until key lock feature gets disabled. CHAPTER 2. MENU SETUP Chapter 2-1. Before Using the DVR Before using the DVR, please setup DVR settings includes menu items such as time and date, password, display, record mode, network, and so on. To setup the DVR, press MENU button. By default, the DVR requires user authentication to enter setup menu. To login the DVR, press #1 button 8 times, and press ENTER button to enter menu system. System Setup To access SYSTEM SETUP, please use button to select press ENTER button. icon in MAIN MENU and Chapter Language To change language system for the DVR, press button to choose desired language. 13 Chapter Password To change Password setting, use button to move cursor to PASSWORD in the SYSTEM Menu. Press ENTER button to change the password. After entering old password, type new password and confirm password by using button from 0 to 9. Note: The default password is (eight 1s). Chapter Admin Lock To enable Admin Lock (key lock) feature, move cursor to ADMIN LOCK menu item in the SYSTEM Menu. Press button to enable or disable this option. Once the ADMIN LOCK is on, password is required to login the system. Chapter Sub-users To define addition users including access right, please press ENTER button on SUB USERS menu item. 14 Chapter Remote Controller ID To setup remote Controller ID, please press button on Remote ID menu item. Chapter Time Format: 24/ 12 Hours Please use button to move cursor to TIME FORMAT in the SYSTEM menu. Press the button to select 24 HOURS (military time) or 12 HOURS (AM/PM). Whenever Time Format is changed, clock information on monitor and file information in search list will be changed synchronously. Chapter Date Format Please use button to move cursor to DATE FORMAT in the SYSTEM menu. Date format can be changed by button. The formats allowed in the system are MM-DD-YY, DD-MM-YY, and MM-DD-YY. Chapter Date/Time Set Please use button to move cursor to DATE/TIME SET in the SYSTEM menu. And then press ENTER to set the time. 15 Chapter Firmware Upgrade Firmware can be upgraded through USB memory driver or network using client software. For more information, Please see Software Upgrade Procedure in appendix. Note: To preserve menu settings after firmware upgrade, press Yes on Save dialog box. Chapter 2-4. Display Setup To access DISPLAY SETUP, select icon in MAIN MENU and press ENTER button. Chapter SEQ Dwell Time SEQ DWELL TIME can be adjusted using button. Changing SEQ DWELL TIME from none can change sequential display period of cameras in full screen shown on main monitor. Chapter Spot Dwell Spot Dwell Time can be changed by using button. Changing Spot Dwell can change sequential display period of cameras in full screen on spot monitor. Chapter Time/Date OSD To set TIME/DATE OSD displayed on main monitor On/Off, please turn on or off on the menu item. 16 Chapter Video Loss OSD Video Loss OSD ON/ OFF can be changed using button. When it is set as OFF, black pictures will be displayed in the cameo for video loss. When it is set as ON, VIDEO LOSS OSD will be displayed in blue screen. Chapter Pop-up Display Pop-up Display ON/ OFF can be changed using button. When it is set as a pop-up camera, the camera can be displayed in full screen on main monitor caused by a motion detection or an alarm triggering. Each Pop-up camera gets displayed by certain period of time. Chapter Adjust Channel To setup video quality at Ch Quality Set menu item, please first select a channel using Adjust Channel. Chapter CH Quality Set Each camera can be adjusted for it brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation. To adjust the settings, please first select channel using button at Adjust Ch menu item. Select Ch Quality Set menu item for setting video property. To reset video quality default values, please select Quality Reset. 17 Chapter Private Channel For a private camera, it does not want to get displayed on main monitor, a user can select button on Private menu item for the setting. Private channels are displayed in black screen for live and playback. Chapter 2-5. Recording Setup To access RECORDING SETUP, select icon in MAIN MENU and press ENTER button. Chapter Stop Key For manual recording, manual recording is started and stopped by the REC/STOP button in the front panel of the DVR. This REC/ STOP button can be disabled to prevent recording stop operation done by unauthorized access. 18 Chapter Rec Settings Rec Settings can setup each camera s recording resolution, quality, FPS, audio, and Lock. Each option is described as follow: Resolution: Full (4 CIF/D1), Half D1 (2 CIFs), or Normal (CIF) Quality: Very Low, Low, Standard, High, or Very High FPS: 1 to 30 FPS (NTSC)/1 to 25 FPS (PAL) REC: ON (Manual, Event), Scheduled, or OFF (no recording) Audio: ON or OFF Lock: ON or OFF Note: If Lock is on, this recorded file does not get deleted, even though HDD over-written option is set. To prevent HDD full, please set this option to be off Video Resolution CIF Recording &playback speed 480 (NTSC)/400 (PAL) FPS 2 CIFs (Half D1) 240 (NTSC)/200 (PAL) FPS 4 CIFs (D1) 120 (NTSC)/100 (PAL) FPS Note: FPS can be changed automatically based on video resolution independently. Chapter 2-6. Event Setup The menu will be appeared on monitor. All the parameters related to Event Recording of a camera including Quality, Frame Rate, Event Type, and Duration can be set separately. 19 Chapter Event Setup Parameter #1 Event setup options are described as bellow: Quality: Very Low, Low, Standard, High, or Very High FPS: 1 to 30 FPS.(NTSC)/ 1 to 25 FPS (PAL) REC: ON (in Manual, EVENT), Scheduled, OFF EVT (Event): ALARM or MOTION PRE (Pre-alarm recording): ON/ OFF Lock: ON or OFF Duration: alarm recording duration Chapter Event Setup Parameter #2 Chapter Motion Area Channel To setup a camera s motion area, please select a camera at Motion Area Ch menu item. Chapter Motion Area To define motion area, please move cursor by button. By pressing ENTER button, cursor becomes + or - mode. Mark + can define a motion area. 20 Chapter 2-7. Schedule Setup Please press button to select Weekly or Daily schedule. To disable a schedule, please set the option to be OFF. When a schedule is disabled, event recording and/or manual can still work. To access SCHEDULE SETUP, select icon in MAIN MENU and press ENTER button. Chapter Weekly If weekly schedule is set, Event or Manual recording can be set. To enable a schedule, please press << or >> key. To remove a schedule, please press key twice. 21 Chapter Daily If daily schedule is set, Event or Manual recording can be set. To enable a schedule, please press << or >> key. To remove a schedule, please press key twice. Chapter 2-8. Network Setup Chapter Connect STATIC IP or DHCP can be selected by button for the DVR. If DHCP is selected, IP Address, Subnet, Gateway, and DNS get automatically assigned. If STATIC is selected, please manually input IP Address, Subnet, Gateway, and DNS. For assigning IP address, Subnet, Gateway, and DNS for STATIC IP mode, press button to increase a value or button to decrease a value. To move in between fields, press button. 22 Chapter Port Number NetViewer software should have same port number to access remote DVR through network. Default port number is for the DVR. If Port is set as 10000, port number of from to is used by the DVR. If an IP sharing device or a router is used for the DVR, port-forwarding setting of the IP sharing device or the router should be configured first. Chapter Time Zone Time information can be synchronized based on a time zone. Chapter NTP Time Sync DVR can synchronize with time server via Network Time Protocol. Warrning: To use this feature, the DVR needs to be on Internet. Unstable Internet connection, it may cause database corruption of the recorded video. 16CH Digital Video Recorder Instruction Manual 21

23 Chapter DDNS STATUS To detect DDNS server s reply status, please perform DDNS status option. DDNS is described as follows: ERR--DDNS IP update failure OK--Normal operation Warrning: If the DVR connects Internet via an IP sharing device/a router, please use DDNS service from the IP sharing device. Chapter 2-9. Copy/Backup To perform BACKUP feature, select icon in MAIN MENU and press ENTER button. Chapter Backup Device To backup video, please first select the backup media. The medias can be: USB: USB flash disk DVD/RW Backup: optional device Note: DVD/RW can support CD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD-RW, and CD-R disks 16CH Digital Video Recorder Instruction Manual 22

24 Chapter Backup Log All of the DVRs operational log information including: 1. DVR power ON/ OFF 2. Recording time 3. Event time can be backed through USB Memory drive. After backup the log file, you can retrieve the log information using the Word Pad application of Windows Chapter CD-RW or DVD/RW Format To blank CD-RW or DVD/RW, please perform CD-RW FORMAT feature Note: For DVD-RW model, only DVD+RW is supported. Chapter Backup Info First, connect USB memory drive into USB port of the DVR s front panel. Once enter menu mode, you can access the information of USB flash disk inserted in DVR including total memory size and available memory size. Note: The File Player application gets copied over the backup media. A user can easily played backup file directly from the backup media. 25 Chapter Backup for All Recordings To perform Backup, please turn to Live mode and press Play button. Search List user interface gets shown on main monitor. When Option ALL is selected, you can select recording types including manual alarm, motion and schedule recordings. Please use button to filter out the desired recording type. Filtered recording files get listed in calendar control. To select specific date, please press button. Please press button on the Time dialog box for specifying time information. Press Backup button. 26 After entering date and time, press Enter button for date and time information. Specify camera(s) for backup. After above procedure, please press Check/OK button to start backup procedure. Chapter HDD Information To access HDD INFORMATION, select icon in MAIN MENU and press ENTER button. Chapter HDD Overwritten HDD OVERWRITE option can be used for circular recording into HDD(s). The oldest recorded videos get overwritten by the latest recorded video. The setting can be set by pressing button. 16CH Digital Video Recorder Instruction Manual 25

27 Chapter HDD Format To format HDD, please select HDD format menu item and press ENTER button. dialog box gets shown for final verification. 28 Chapter Camera Number Please first select camera number to perform camera setting. To set PTZ protocol for a particular camera, please choose PTZ type and assign PTZ ID for the camera. Enter the RS-485 ID number at PTZ ID menu item. To setup PTZ baud rate, please set the baud setting. Chapter Camera ID After selecting CAMERA NO first for CAMERA ID changing, CAMERA ID can be changed by visual keyboard. Chapter PTZ Type One can choose the model of PTZ devices by pressing UP or DOWN button. The DVR adopts this PTZ model s protocol and communicates with the PTZ device. For Merit LILIN PTZ device, please select LILIN MLP2 protocol. Chapter PTZ ID PTZ ID is range from 00 to 19. PTZ ID can be selected for a camera channel. Chapter Baud Rate Baud rate setting ranging from 2400 to BPS, please refer to PTZ user manual for baud setting. 16CH Digital Video Recorder Instruction Manual 27

29 Chapter 3. Searching and Playback If Search button is selected for playback, the search list with options, All, Schedule, Motion, Alarm, Manual, and Time searched can be found. To search video clips, please first select button for a search option. In calendar control, please use button to move cursor. To search day, please use button to move the cursor. Indicates that there is an alarm recording for a given day. Indicates that there is a motion recording for a given day. Chapter 3-1. Other Playback Features After selecting a playback time, please click ENTER button to play the video clips. While the DVR is in playback mode, features such as fast forward (FF), fast rewind (FR), pause, stop, step, and re-play can then be used. FF: Turn shuttle ring right on the front panel, or press FF key on the remote controller to fast forward the playing video. The speed of fast forwarding is range from 2X ~ 16X of the original playback speed. FR: Turn shuttle right left on the front panel, or press FR key on the remote controller to fast rewind the playing video. The speed of fast rewinding is range from 2X ~ 16X of the original playback speed. Pause & Stepping: press Pause button while playing video that can pause the video. Roll the Jog dial that can see the slow motion of the recorded video. Stop: To stop video playback, press Stop button on the keypad or the remote controller. 30 Chapter 4. PTZ Control To control PTZ device, please first select the camera using camera button from CH1 to CH16 in front panel of DVR. Follow steps bellow to control a PTZ device. Press PTZ button to select PTZ mode. PTZ Mode OSD is displayed on upper right corner of monitor. Use button for up and down movement of PTZ camera, for left and right movement and button for zoom IN and OUT. To escape PTZ control mode, press ENTER button or any button. The PTZ Mode OSD on upper right corner of monitor is disappeared. Note: Before using PTZ control mode, please check that PTZ protocol in PTZ TYPE of CAMERA SETTING is correctly selected. Chapter 5. Client Software DVR remote access software including NetViewer, FilePlayer, and CMS, can be found in the software pack CD. To run the software, please install Setup.exe from 16CH DVR 6164 directory in software pack CD. Chapter 5-1 NetViewer NetViewer application can access remote DVR s live video, remote video capturing, remote audio monitoring, playback, and AVI file conversion. 31 Chapter NetViewer Software PTZ Operation For PTZ operation, please click on PTZ control. Chapter Local Setting When the Local Setting button is clicked, Local Setting consists of OSD setting, motion/alarm window pop-up, local recording path setting, and remote firmware upgrade. 1. OSD setting OSD setting is to add or delete the heading information of a channel, time information and font color in each picture can be set. 2. Motion/alarm window is triggered by a remote DVR, an alarm notification is shown in a message box. Chapter Remote DVR Setting Please click on Remote Setting button for camera configuration. 32 To update the setting, please click on Update button. Chapter Record Each video channel from CH1 to CH16 can be assigned for recording resolution from Full D1 (720x480), Half D1 (720x240), and Normal (352x240). Select Ch: Channel Number Record: Disable, Manual, Schedule, and Event Quality: Very low, low, normal, high, and very high Frame rate: 1~30 FPS. Audio: ON/ OFF, it defines audio signal for a channel. Weekly Schedule recording or Monthly Schedule recording can be selected for schedule recording. If None is selected, there is no schedule recording. Stop Key: Disable/Enable, in case of manual recording, manual recording can be started and stopped by the Rec/Stop button in the front panel of DVR. Select CH: Channel number Quality: Very low, low, normal, high, and very high Frame Rate: 1~30 FPS. Audio: ON/ OFF, it defines audio signal for a channel. 33 Chapter Motion Detection Setting Press select CH number, and click on the grids to set motion detection area. Please select CH number, and click on the grids to set motion area for each channel. Chapter Remote Setting (Event) Select CH: Channel number Quality: Very low, low, normal, high, and very high Frame rate: 1~30 FPS Event: Motion recording or alarm recording for each channel can be selected. Prerecord: On or Off for pre-alarm recording Duration: It defines alarm recording time, 10 sec, 30 sec, and 1~60 minutes. Sensitivity: Very low, low, normal, high, and very high Sensor type: N.O (Normal Open) or N.C (Normal Close) can be selected. Input: Alarm input from 1 to 16 Trigger out: It defines replay output from 1 to 4, when motion or alarm is detected. 34 Chapter Weekly Schedule Day of a week from Monday to Sunday and time of 24 hour can be set for weekly schedule recording. In the weekly schedule, the schedule recording can be set. Note: Event (motion or alarm) is represented as blue color box and recording is represented as red color box. Event schedule recording starts when event is triggered. Chapter HDD Setting To show the total capacity of all the HDD in DVR, please click on HDD tab. Overwritten setting is ON or OFF can be selected for HDD circular recording. Chapter 5-2. Remote File Search for Playback and Downloading Remote Search feature can be utilized for searching files saved in remote DVR. Remote Search icon of NetViewer is clicked, below GUI is appeared. 35 Chapter 5-3 Video Capturing and Printing Capture feature can be utilized for both single picture saving and picture printing. When Capture button is pressed, Save or Print button can be selected for either picture saving or picture printing. Chapter 5-4. Record Record can be utilized for saving live pictures from a remote DVR to a local PC. The default recording path is at C:\DVRBACKUP. To change the path, please enter the Local Setting to change the setting. Chapter 5-5. Two-Way Audio For two-way audio communication, click on MIC-ON button to activate audio communication. 36 Chapter 5-6. Event Notification from remote DVR If a motion/alarm event of a channel is detected, event information can notify to NetViewer. NetViewer shows additional message box representing an alarm signal. Chapter 6. Play Backup Video File on PC File Player application can be found in backup media such as USB or CD/DVD along with the backup files. File Player can be executed on a Windows PC for playing backup files. To playback backup files, please use File Open button on File Player application or double-click on the backup file. Chapter 6-1. If File Open button is clicked, it read files in default directory, C:\DVRBACKUP. The directory related to BACKUP media like USB or CD/DVD can be chosen by using this button. For file playback, searched file can be selected. And then click play button of No.8. to playback it. Channel Select: Channel Select supports 1-ch, 4-ch, 8-ch and 16-ch window-division display. Single Channel Select: Full screen display Volume Control and mute: For audio playback, please first select Single Channel Select button or double click on the channel. The audio volume can be adjusted by dragging on volume control. Setting: It is used for both OSD addition or deletion and directory assignment for local file saving path. 38 Power: It is used to close File Player Program. Playback Icons Playback : This icon is used for starting playback. Still/Pause: This icon is used for still or pause playback file. Stop: This icon is used for stopping playback. GOP Skip (Backward): This icon is used for faster playback in backward. It is a little faster than normal playback speed. Frame Skip (Backward) Frame Skip (Forward) GOP Skip (Forward): This icon is used for faster playback in forward. Fast Playback: The higher number means, the faster playback. Plus (+) means forward faster playback. Minus (-) means backward faster playback. Capture: It is used for capturing single picture or printing. Captured pictures are stored as JPEG files. 41 Chapter 7-3. E-Map In CMS software, if E-MAP button is clicked, E-Map is displayed. The path to load E-Map is at C:\Program files\dvr_app\. Please copy E-Map pictures into this directory. The picture can be loaded by Image Load button. Cameras number can be placed in somewhere in E-MAP by dragging the camera icon. The camera layout in E-MAP can be stored by click Save Info button. 42 Appendix Software Upgrade Procedure 1) Copy upgraded firmware file, vr535352xx.tgz into USB Memory Drive in advance. 2) Insert USB Memory Drive into USB port in front panel of DVR. 3) Press MENU button. 4) Input password and then press ENTER button. 5) Select SYSTEM SETUP menu in main menu. 6) Move to UPGRADE of SYSTEM SETUP. Press ENTER button of front panel in your DVR. 7) While lease wait is appearing, S/W upgrade will be executed. It takes around 10 minutes. After completing S/W upgrade, your DVR will be automatically rebooted. 8) After performing S/W upgrade, please check version no at SYSTEM SETUP.
