20 BATTERY MANAGEMENT LCD Brightness / Timeout Settings can increase battery consumption. Adjust these settings down to their lowest (desired) setting. GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi radios are physically separate from each other and require extra power from the battery when powered on. It is recommended to turn these functions off when not in use. Background processes / running applications can also cause additional battery usage as the processor pulls resources from the battery. Close applications not currently in use. The best way to ensure all processes are stopped is by power cycling the device. Sync Interval Settings can also contribute to battery drain. To achieve the best battery results, it is recommended to set the accounts to synchronize manually so they are not frequently using data / battery power. Live Wallpapers Multiple alarms, alerts, and reminders consume battery power. Minimize the number and frequency of these reminders. Sending / receiving data and text messages prompts more notifications and increases battery consumption. Streaming and playing music, movies, and videos for long periods of time increase battery consumption 20

37 NFC TAG NFC(Near Field Communication) easy way to make payments, get info, exchange files. NFC is the technology behind Goggle Wallet, S Beam, Android Beam, and Samsung TecTiles. Modes Active Mode When a powered NFC device connects to another powered NFC device, the devices are connecting in active communication mode. Both devices generate a radio field as they communicate. Passive Mode When a powered NFC device connects to an unpowered object, the devices are connecting in passive communication mode. Only one device generates a field and momentarily shares its power with the NFC tag. What is the range of an NFC transmission? NFC can transmit data within a range of about 1.5 inches. Inside an NFC Tag A wafer-thin NFC tag can be covered by paper, fabric or plastic, so it can look like almost anything. But if you looked inside the tag, you would find a tiny microchip that can store a little bit of information, plus a coiled wire antenna that receives the radio frequency from the active (powered) device. 37

38 S BEAM S Beam S Beam makes it simple to share files between two devices simply by touching them back-to-back. S Beam extends the native Android NFC sharing capabilities by adding the ability to share large files like photos, videos, and documents with other S Beam capable handsets. S Beam works by combining NFC and another sharing technology, Wi-Fi Direct. Troubleshooting S Beam: Ensure both devices are active and not in the lock screen or screen off mode. Ensure that the device the end user is trying to send something is also NFC and Wi-Fi Direct enabled. 38
