3 YOUR CREDENTIALS The credentials below are used for establishing a connection to the Internet and connecting your sign-in authentication account to your CT Wi-Fi account. 4 INTRODUCTION Coop Tender Wi-Fi is a combination of hardware and software which permits control, configuration and monitoring of your Coop Tender automatic coop door. The hardware module installs on your Coop Tender automatic chicken coop door and is connected to the Internet by using a patented BlinkUp application. The Wi-Fi module will connect to b, g and n networks and supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 security protocols. Three levels of software enable seamless interaction with your automatic coop door. Level 1: Communicates directly with your coop door, sending and receiving instructions and data. Level 2: An agent handles secure communication to and from the Internet. The agent handles requests which come in from the Internet and routes data via secure communication to data collectors and storage as well as directly to client applications which have been properly authenticated. Level 3: The user interface, which is shown in this document, is designed to function on almost any modern Internet browser (i.e. it is not targeted to just iphone or Android devices) Coop Tender 3

7 BLINKUP CT Wi-Fi uses a patented BlinkUp technology to connect your automatic coop door to the Internet. BlinkUp works with ios and Android smartphones and tablets to connect your CT Wi-Fi module to the Internet in just a few seconds. Taking Wi-Fi configuration information from the mobile device, BlinkUp transmits that data by rapidly flashing light pulses on the device s screen. The data is read by the optical sensor tied to CT Wi-Fi s integrated hardware. Note that this is only a requirement to connect your CT Wi-Fi module. Once connected, the user interface may be accessed from any modern Internet browser as described in the introduction of this document. 1. Download the Electric Imp app from the itunes App Store of Google Play depending on whether you re using an ios or Android device. 2. After the app has downloaded, launch and sign into the app using the user name and password provided in the Credentials section of this documentation. 3. The app automatically selects the Wi-Fi network your mobile device is connected to. CT Wi-Fi uses the 2.4 GHz n standard and is compatible with older 2.4 GHz b/g networks. If your n network runs in the 5GHz band, you will need to reconfigure your network to allow 2.4 GHz operation or create a separate guest network in the 2.4 GHz band if your router can host multiple networks simultaneously. Note: Ensure that your mobile device brightness is set to the brightest setting. Enter your Wi-Fi details by selecting your Wi-Fi network within the app and enter its password if one is set. These credentials will then be encrypted and transmitted to the CT Wi-Fi module using BlinkUp. The app does not send the network s name or its password anywhere outside of the physical CT Wi-Fi module (i.e. it is not stored anywhere on the Internet). If you don t see the network you would like to connect CT Wi-Fi to it may be a hidden network, select Other Network and then type in the network s name and password if one is set. You may also connect via WPS if your wireless router supports it Coop Tender 6

8 CT Wi-Fi is capable of determining what kind of security, WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc., your network uses, so all you need to do is enter your Wi-Fi password. If you are connecting to an unsecured network, leave the password field blank. 4. BlinkUp when you re ready to configure your CT Wi-Fi module, plug the module into the corresponding connector which protrudes from the back of Coop Tender s controller unit. You should see an LED inside the CT Wi-Fi module blinking. The LED is located on the opposite side of the wires which are plugged into your Coop Tender. The CT Wi-Fi status LED will blink for approximately 1 minute. During this time, you are able to connect the module to your Wi-Fi Internet connection. Press the end of the CT Wi-Fi module where the LED is flashing against your mobile device s screen. Now press the Send BlinkUp button in the Electric Imp app. If you re using the Android app, you should first select Legacy Mode. Ensure CT Wi-Fi is plugged in and the status LED is flashing. If it isn t you can turn Coop Tender off, and then back on or unplug it, and then plug it back in. Because BlinkUp transmits data optically, it can be adversely affected by unusual lighting conditions, especially very bright lighting such as direct sunlight. For best results, the following is recommended: Try to block out any direct, bright lights, or BlinkUp (tm) in a shady area Hold the CT Wi-Fi module and your mobile device still during the process Always run BlinkUp with the screen facing away from you and towards the device being configured, especially if you suffer from a medical condition that makes you susceptible to strobing light. 9 app there are audio prompts both at the start and end, so you can close your eyes during the process if necessary. 5. Connection When BlinkUp is done, your CT Wi-Fi module will use the data it received to communicate with your router and gain access to the Internet. It will download the latest code and firmware automatically and begin logging data from your coop door. At this point, your coop door may be monitored and configured by using the CT Wi-Fi web app ( MOUNTING YOUR CT WI-FI INTERNET MODULE To mount your CT Wi-Fi Internet module, simply peel off the backing from the Velcro which is affixed to the back of the module and stick it somewhere on the controller or a nearby location which has a clean, smooth surface. For optimum wireless performance, locate the Wi-Fi Module such that the metal faceplate is not in a direct line between the module and the Wi-Fi signal. Somewhere on top of or above the door would be a good location. The module itself should be protected from rain. You can cover it with a plastic bag after you have connected it to your Wi-Fi network Coop Tender 8

10 CT WI-FI SIGN-IN PAGE Upon navigation to you ll be presented with the Coop Tender Wi-Fi sign in page. SIGN-IN OPTIONS After tapping the sign in button you will be presented with login authentication services which are available. Please note that the services are only used for authentication. CT Wi-Fi does not access any of your contacts, posts, etc Coop Tender 9

11 If this is the first time you have logged in using the selected service, you ll be asked to enter your Customer ID. Your Coop Tender Wi-Fi Customer ID is provided in the Credentials section at the beginning of this document. Enter it and then tap Update. You will only need to enter your Customer ID once for each social network you use to log into your CT Wi-Fi account. The Customer ID links your social network authentication account with your CT Wi-Fi account Coop Tender 10

12 HOME PAGE After successfully signing in and entering your customer id, you ll be presented with the CT Wi-Fi Home page. The home page shows each door which is configured for your account and provides the current status of each door. Tap Refresh Door Status to update the status of your coop door. After logging in for the first time, it may be necessary to top Refresh Door Status to retrieve the door(s) assigned to your account. During subsequent sign-ins your doors will automatically appear on the home screen. CLOSE, OPEN and STOP and RESET buttons control all doors configured for the account. Closing, opening or stopping your coop door will put it into manual mode (i.e. it will not automatically open and close). You will receive an alert to remind you that door control is being overridden: You must Reset the door to re-apply the configured settings. Tapping Reset will reset / reboot the coop doors in your account. This will re-apply your configured door control method 2015 Coop Tender 11

13 DOOR CONFIGURATION SETTINGS / CONTROL Select the gear icon for door control and configuration Your door s current configuration is retrieved and presented in each associated section. CHANGING DOOR NAME Change the door name by entering a new name and then tap Update Door Name. OVERRIDE DOOR CLOSE, OPEN and STOP buttons on this screen only control the selected door - indicated by the Door Name field. Closing, opening or stopping your coop door will put it into manual mode (i.e. it will not automatically open and close). You will receive an alert to remind you that door control is being overridden: You must RESET the door to re-apply the configured settings. Tapping Reset will reset / reboot the coop door indicated by the Door Name field. This will re-apply your configured door control method 2015 Coop Tender 12

14 DOOR CONTROL SETTINGS Door Control settings display based on selected control option (Light, Schedule or Manual). When a date or time input is required, you are presented with a pop-up control which allows you to easily set the desired value. If you are using a computer with a mouse wheel, you may use the mouse wheel to scroll through the available values in each component (day, month, year, hour, minute, AM/PM). Numerical value input is achieved by adjusting slider controls. The value corresponding to the slider control position appears to the left of the control and will dynamically update when the slider is moved Coop Tender 13

15 UPDATE SETTINGS When you have made the changes you desire, tap on the Update Settings button and the new settings will be sent to your coop door within seconds Coop Tender 14

16 COOP DOOR DATE TIME UPDATE To update the date and time which is set on your Coop Tender automatic chicken coop door, simply select the desired date and time, and then tap Update Date-Time. The new date time will be sent to your door and will be updated within seconds Coop Tender 15

17 DATA / CHARTS Chart data is available by selecting charts in top navigation or by selecting a door on the home page: Or by tapping Charts in the top navigation. Data is presented over time (every hour) and is available for: Power / Battery Volts Daylight Ambient Light Temperature - F Door Status Open (1) / Closed (0) 2015 Coop Tender 16

18 ALERT SETTINGS You may configure alert settings to have information regarding door status change and warnings sent to you. Alerts may be configured to be sent via: SMS Twitter Select the type of alert(s) you wish to receive and fill in the corresponding information. For alerts, enter a valid address to which you wish to receive the alerts For SMS alerts, enter the mobile phone number with the country code. You only need to enter the numbers. Example: would be entered for 1 (123) Please note that your data service provider may charge for each incoming SMS alert. Please check with your service provider to determine what charges may be incurred before selecting and enabling SMS alerts Coop Tender 17

19 TWITTER ALERTS Twitter alerts require creation of a separate Twitter account + application. After created, information for the Twitter application is entered. You then follow the newly created account with your personal Twitter account and will receive tweets from your coop door. Information on how to create a Twitter App may be found on the Internet. After creating your Twitter app, you will have access to the information which is required for entry into the Twitter alerts section Coop Tender 18

20 APPENDIX A - BLINKUP CODES The following guide should help you identify the LED status code patterns your CT Wi-Fi module may blink. APPENDIX B FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS) DOES THE CT WI-FI MODULE USE MY SMART PHONE S INTERNET CONNECTION? The CT Wi-Fi module does not require a smart phone for its Internet connection. You do need an ios or Android based smart phone or device to facilitate connecting CT Wi-Fi to your Wi-Fi network. This is achieved using the Electric Imp BlinkUp app. The app securely configures your CT Wi-Fi module to utilize the network selected in the BlinkUp app. Once your module is configured with BlinkUp, the smartphone is no longer needed for this purpose. CT Wi-Fi will connect to your wireless network as a separate device with the mac address indicated on your CT Wi-Fi module Coop Tender 19

21 WHAT HAPPENS IF MY INTERNET CONNECTION GOES DOWN? The CT Wi-Fi module will attempt to connect to a network every 10 minutes until it is able to connect Coop Tender 20

22 REPLACEMENT AND WARRANTY This product has been manufactured and tested to the highest quality standards by ITBS, Inc. d.b.a. Coop Tender This Limited Warranty offered by ITBS, Inc. covers defects in material or workmanship. This warranty extends to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable. Only consumers purchasing products from authorized retailers or resellers or through the Coop Tender website may obtain coverage under our limited warranties. ITBS, Inc. warrants this product against defects in material or workmanship as follows: ITBS, Inc. will replace at no charge for parts only or, at its option, replace any product or part of the product that proves defective because of improper workmanship and/or material, under normal installation, use, service and maintenance. If ITBS, Inc. is unable to provide a replacement and repair is not practical or cannot be made in a timely fashion, ITBS, Inc. may elect to refund the purchase price in exchange for the return of the product. Warranty period is 1 year from the documented date of purchase. Warranty does not cover any problem that is caused by: A. Conditions, malfunctions or damage not resulting from defects in material or workmanship. B. Conditions, malfunctions or damage resulting from, improper installation, improper maintenance, misuse, abuse, negligence, accident or alteration. C. Accessories, connected materials and products, or related products not manufactured by ITBS, Inc. Limited warranty is void if a product is returned with removed, damaged or tampered labels or any alterations (including removal of any component or external cover). ITBS, Inc. will not provide any warranty coverage unless claims are made in compliance with all terms of the controlling warranty statement included with your product and you follow proper return procedure. To request warranty service, you will need to provide: 1. The sales receipt or other evidence of the date and place of purchase. 2. A description of the problem. 3. An RMA# (return merchandise authorization) 4.
