2 How to get the best experience from your mobile phone APP MANAGEMENT The S3 company mobile admin chooses apps for your company from the global library and assigns them to the company library. They can do this by opening this link Apps available in your company library that have been assigned to your device, will appear in the My Work Apps section of the Google Play store on your device. As a user, if you cannot find an app in the app store check with your company S3 admin first and see if they have added it to your company app store. 2 To apply to have an application added to the global store, submit your request here:- Before lodging a new app request. please check with your company console admin to check the global library first. If it can be found it in the global library, the admin can add it to your company library. DO NOT request apps that are streaming media services, games. Apps will be assessed for approval based on their business use or educational value. Too explore the apps available on the device, open the Google Play Store. In the top left corner of the screen, you will see three horizontal bars. Tap on the bars. Then select My Work Apps. To see the apps installed on the device tap on the Installed option. To view the apps available on the company library for download to your device, tap on All. IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT APPS Paid Apps in the Android for Work Environment are not supported in UK by Google. The only Global Region supported at this point in time is the U.S. Google are currently working on the situation and hope to have an estimated resolution time to UBT soon. The Android for Work environment has a lot more stringent guidelines which the developers must meet, before Google will allows the apps into the environment. Some of the aspects these guidelines cover are:- security, battery usage, CPU usage, memory usage, app purchasing gateway location and app support. This increased requirement means many of the apps available in the Google Personal environment a not available in the Android for Work environment because they don t meet the minimum requirements. INTERNET MANAGEMENT Internet access on these devices is via a global network of UBT gateways running in Safe Search mode. This provides access to Google searches via the Chrome web browser on the device. Other web browsers may work but are not supported. Per device whitelist management is not available yet on mobile devices. Due to the ever dynamic nature of the internet, you may find from time to time you are unable to access a web page. 3 CONSERVING BATTERY LIFE Reduce the Screen Brightness Phone screens consume a large amount of battery power, and the bigger screens and resolutions mean a larger power consumption. To minimize this, try reducing the smartphone s brightness, even slightly. Reduce the use of Vibration Mode Your phone requires more power to vibrate than it does to play sounds. Reducing the amount of vibrations, will increase battery life. Turn off Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi 3 When they are not in use, always switch off your Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi. For example, leaving your WiFi on allows it to continually search for more WiFi networks to connect to, draining battery. Lock your Smartphone Ensuring that you lock your phone s screen when it is not in use will help increase its battery life. You can set the auto-lock feature on the minimum time to ensure the device locks automatically. Turn off Auto-Updates Applications on smartphones regularly receive updates from their developers Turning off the Auto-Update feature will allow you to update the apps at an ideal time, such as when the phone is plugged in and charging, to avoid impact on the device s battery life. Quit Unused Applications When you are not using an app on your smartphone, remember to close it. When apps are left running in the background they can still continue to use up battery life. Turn off Notifications Your smartphone constantly gets notifications about the apps that are installed on the device, and the majority of these notifications are not needed. Turning off unneeded notifications will help to increase battery life. Keep the Smartphone Cool Leaving your smartphone in a warm or hot environment > 25 Degrees C will cause the battery to run out faster. Try to keep the phone cool and don t leave it in the sun. The hotter the phone, the harder it is working and the quicker the battery will run out. Push to the background Switching off isn t just a matter of minimising your smartphone s radio chatter, either. Any application that has push or notification style features will use power in providing those services. is the classic example here, because push-style services will constantly check to see if you have waiting to be pushed to your smartphone. That is exceptionally handy if you constantly live by communication. If your needs are more modest, consider disabling push and setting your either on full manual feed, so it only updates when you select it, or on a reduced schedule of checking every 15 or 30 minutes.

4 BATTERY CHARGING Don t charge battery from zero to 100% The rule with Li-ion batteries is to keep them 50% or more most of the time When it drops below 50% top it up a little if you can, don t charge it all the way to 100% immediately, stop at 80%. It won t be fatal to your battery if you do a full recharge most of us are forced to do this every now and again in emergencies. Constantly doing a full recharge from 0% will shorten the battery s lifespan. Can I use any charger? Where possible use the charger that came with your phone, as it is sure to have the correct rating. 4 DO NOT use a USB port on a PC to fully charge the phone battery, these are ok for short top up but not a full charge Temperature Don t leave your phone in a hot car, on the beach or next to the oven. A hot battery will suffer long-term effects on its lifespan. So will a super-cold phone. So don t leave your device in the freezer or out in the snow! Never charge a phone that is abnormally hot or cold, wait for it to stabilize to normal room temperature < 25 Degrees C

Background data is all that internet traffic that goes on when you re not actually using an app: syncing, feeds updating, weather widgets and so on. 5 You can also tell the Android system to restrict background data in Settings > Data usage > Restrict Background Data or for individual apps in Settings > Apps (depending on which version of Android you have).

Tap Settings and at the top, you ll see Auto-Update Apps. Tap this and make sure you either have it set to Do not auto-update apps or Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.

7 TIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL USAGE When using the phone outside of Australia there is a number very important points to be carefully considered, to avoid bill shock Ensure global roaming has been activated before you leave. If you are a frequent international traveler, a plan that includes international roaming allowance may be a good option. Speak to the Telco team about options. Be aware of which global regions that you carrier has international roaming coverage. This can be found on your carrier s website. Optus or Telstra. Disable mobile data usage on the phone. Do not use any apps that require data unless you are connected to a WiFi network 7 Only make outgoing calls when the situation is absolutely necessary. Likewise, for SMS messages. Be aware of the fact that SMS using the mobile voice network and therefore voice roaming, BBM uses the data network and therefore data roaming. Be aware sending photos, updating profile images, downloading attachments, internet browsing and all apps usage, consumes data. Be aware the time lag experienced between the data usage alerts and the actual data usage may mean you have exceed your data quota limit and be incurring excess charges before the get an alert.
