14 NB-IoT (3GPP Rel-14) NB-IoT Enhancements Further enhancements for NB-IoT (& emtc) are being worked on for next 3GPP Release (Rel-14). It includes Positioning Multicast Support multi-cast downlink transmission (e.g. firmware or software updates, group message delivery) for NB-IoT Non-Anchor PRB enhancements Mobility and service continuity enhancements New Power Class(es) Evaluate and, if appropriate, specify new UE power class(es) (e.g. 14dBm), and any necessary signaling support, to support lower maximum transmit power suitable for small form-factor batteries, with appropriate MCL relaxations compared to Rel-13 Slide 14

15 Background NB-IoT (3GPP Rel-14) Positioning UE positioning and tracking are important in many IoT applications, such as asset tracking Motivation GNSS-based positioning method is not appropriate for many IoT applications In Rel-13, only limited positioning functionalities are provided for emtc and NB-IoT UEs Need Improvements of the 3GPP positioning methods are necessary to support a competitive 3GPP-based IoT eco-system Solution For emtc positioning support, define OTDOA: RSTD measurements and reports based on legacy PRS E-CID: RSRQ, and UE Rx Tx time difference For NB-IoT and emtc improved positioning accuracy, define New DL reference signal or configuration New UL signal or configuration to improve UL timing estimation accuracy Define corresponding signaling changes LPP RRC and LPPa Proposal: Ericsson (RP , 3GPP TSG RAN Meeting #72, Busan, Korea, June 13-16, 2016) Slide 15

16 Background NB-IoT (3GPP Rel-14) Multicast embms was developed to efficiently deliver multicast services over areas typically spanning multiple cells. But there could be a number of applications that may benefit from efficient multicast service support over a single cell Motivation When many devices need to receive same information simultaneously, e.g. in case of rollout of firmware or software upgrades, it is in many cases more efficient to use multicast transmission instead of unicast transmission embms transmission based on Single-Cell Point-To-Multipoint transmission (SC-PTM), based on LTE downlink shared channel, was developed for emtc & NB-IoT (Rel-13) Need Enhanced low complexity multicast/broadcast functionality in normal and enhanced coverage for emtc & NB-IoT devices Solution Form of a narrowband format of regular MBSFN transmission functionality Small extension of the recently introduced (SC-PTM) functionality. Proposal: Ericsson (RP , 3GPP TSG RAN Meeting #72, Busan, Korea, June 13-16, 2016) Slide 16
