1 International Live Events Association The Certified Special Events Professional As a Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP ) you ve demonstrated your support of excellence in the field. Recertification demonstrates your continued dedication to maintaining a comprehensive, standardized body of practitioner knowledge in a rapidly changing events profession. To maintain the CSEP designation, the International Live Events Association requires all designees to recertify every five years by accumulating twenty-five (25) professional industry points through education, experience, and service to the industry. CSEP Recertification Policies and Procedures 1. Once a CSEP, the designee is required to recertify their credentials every five (5) years through continuing education activities 2. Completed applications must be received by ILEA Headquarters on or before November 30 th of the fifth exam anniversary date and accompanied by a $200 USD recertification fee. 3. Applications received between December 1 st - December 31 st of the designee s expiring year will incur an additional late fee of $50 (USD), total fee $250 (USD). After December 31 st the designee forfeits their CSEP designation, and must cease and desist all usage of the CSEP designation. 4. Expired CSEPs must re-apply and pass the entire CSEP exam in order to regain legal use of the CSEP designation. 5. All CSEPs who are approved for recertification will receive written notification and a new certificate. 6. Extenuating circumstances surrounding late recertification submissions will be reviewed for time extensions. Exceptions: Serious illness of self or an immediate family member-short and/or long-term disability-job loss-family leave-military duty CSEP Emeritus Status Policies (see Emeritus Status Application) CSEPs reaching retirement age may apply to receive Emeritus Status. Emeritus Status will allow a CSEP to maintain their CSEP status without future recertification. To qualify an applicant MUST: Be at least 60 years of age. Must have held an active CSEP designation in good standing for no less than 10 years. For More Information on Emeritus Status see separate Emeritus Application CSEP Instructions 1. Complete the application below and return to ILEA Headquarters on or before November 30 th of your recertification year. 2. GRADING EXAMS is required. If a candidate has not graded at least three (3) exams within five years, contact ILEA Headquarters for further information before the November 30 th deadline. 3. A candidate for Recertification must have accumulated a minimum of twenty-five (25) points before the recertification application may be submitted. CSEPs are not required to be ILEA members and can obtain points through any event industry involvement. 4. All points claimed must have been accumulated within the past five (5) years. 5. All information requested on the application much be completed and all attachments/verification are provided. 6. All documentation should be scanned and/or ed or mailed to ILEA Headquarters. Mailed applications must be postmarked on or before the November 30 th deadline. Mailed CSEP Applications should be clearly titled and include verification documentation. All materials submitted for recertification cannot be returned, DO NOT send originals. The points provided must have been accumulated during the past 5 years. Each section of the point summary includes a listing of acceptable forms of verification documentation. Provide a short description (100 words or less) of your personal and professional CSEP designation experience. 3 CSEP Sustainability Contributions Description Earn points for involvement in CSEP sustainability. Acceptable forms of verification documentation include grader thank you s, list of mentored CSEP applicants, outline of course work. Mandatory: CSEP Grader In order to recertify, you must have graded at least (3)CSEP exams.5 per exam CSEP discussion group leader 1 point per 10 hours 5 CSEP speaking engagements.5 per engagement CSEP champion 1 point per 10 hours 5 Formal Education Earn points for only the highest level of education attained in the last 5 years. Credit includes university, distance learning/online courses. Acceptable documentation includes: copy of diploma, institution letter, university transcripts Doctorate Degree in the Hospitality/Event Industry 4 for completion Doctorate Degree 3.5 for completion Masters or post-baccalaureate degree in the hospitality/event industry 3 for completion Masters or post-baccalaureate degree 2.5 for completion Bachelor s or four year college degree in the hospitality/event industry 2 for completion Bachelor s or four year college degree 1.5 for completion Associate s Degree hospitality/event industry 1 for completion Associate s Degree.5 for completion Special Events Industry Membership(s) Earn credit for any associations/organizations/clubs/societies membership in the last 5 years. (1 pt per organization per year of membership). Acceptable forms of documentation include but are not limited to: cancelled checks or credit card receipts, copy of membership card or a statement from an executive of the professional association. Membership in industry association(s) (ILEA, MPI, NACE, ICA, SITE, ARA, etc.) 1 point per year Page 3 of 6
4 Special Events Industry Leadership Contributions Credit earned in national or international leadership events-related organization. Earn points for each committee served on per term in the last 5 years (leadership role must take place outside the work place environment.) Acceptable forms of verification documentation include: published and dated listing in a program, newsletter, brochure, directory, board minutes. International president 3.5 per term International officer/board member/director/ or regional or national vice president 3 per term Chapter/ affiliate officer 2.5 per term Chapter board member/director 2 per term Committee chair (international or chapter) 1.5 per term Committee member (International or Chapter) 1 per term Professional Experience Designees must be in a qualifying position as the CEO/managing director/owner, senior planner/producer, or team leader. Provide appropriate employment information for the last 5 years. Acceptable forms of verification documentation include but are not limited to: statement of employment, human resources official, copy of W2 forms (USA applicants only). CEO/managing director/owner 2 per year 6 Senior event professional 1 per year 5 Events Manager.5 per year 4 Continuing Education and Professional Development and Acceptable Forms of Documentation Claim points for completion of certificate programs, attendance at industry meetings, and/or participating in the professional development of students. Webinars/online courses and courses must be sponsored by an approved corporation, university/college, trade association. Recertification credit is not awarded for time spent in registration, meals, breaks, but points can be claimed for leadership meetings, networking events, and exhibit hall time. Industry meetings must include an educational component (i.e. speaker, professional panel). To accrue points, calculate the # of hours for each activity and divide the hours by the number given (i.e. 10 hour seminar 5 = 2 points). Acceptable forms of verification include: a copy of certificate of attendance/completion, cancelled check/credit card receipt & registration form, conference program and badge. 5 Industry Accolades and Other Professional Designations Indicate individual awards or professional designations representing the events industry in the last 5 years. Acceptable forms of verification documentation include but are not limited to: copy of certificate, photo of award, published announcement. International/national industry awards (ILEA Esprit, Gala, Crystal Paragon, etc.) 1 per award Regional/local Awards.5 per award Industry professional designation other than CSEP (CMP, CAE, CERP, CMM, CPCE, etc.) 1 per designation Other designations (financial/risk management/ business development/ethics/technical, etc.).5 per designation Professional Industry Contributions and Acceptable Forms of Documentation Professional articles must be published in a hospitality industry magazine or professional journal. Presentations must be presented outside the work place and must be at least 30 minutes in duration. Acceptable forms of documentation include: certificates, sample program, letter from organizer, published announcement, course outline, copy of book cover page, publisher page, and chapter coverage. MUST indicate institution/organization, name of course/program and date. Industry University or college instructor 3 per course Industry, university, or college speaker 2 per engagement Industry panelist, moderator, or round table Leader (minimum 1 hour session) 1 per engagement Author of industry related book 5 per contribution Industry case study researcher 2 per completed study Co-author/contributor an industry related book 2 per contribution Author of an industry related article, journals, or nationally/internationally-distributed magazines: 1.5 per article Author of industry related training presentation 1.5 presentation Industry Volunteer Activities To accrue points, calculate the number of hours for each volunteer activity and divide contact hours by the number given. (i.e. 10 hour medical course 20 =.5 point) Acceptable forms of verification documentation include but are not limited to: Certificate, published announcement, letter from organization, or published mention.
