1 CASPER COLLEGE COURSE SYLLABUS MSFT 1600 Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Semester/Year: Fall 2007 Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 2 Credit Hours: 3 Class Time: Saturday 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM Room: BU 307 Instructor s Name: Rick Lamotte Instructor's Contact Information: Office: BU 208 Office Phone: rlamotte@caspercollege.edu Office Hours: Mon Thurs: 12pm 2:30pm, Mon and Wed: 4 6pm or BU 307 Course Description: This course teaches students, through lectures, discussions, scenarios, demonstrations, chapter review questions, textbook exercises, and classroom labs, the skills and knowledge necessary to implement and manage Microsoft Exchange Server This course was developed for students entering the information technology (IT) profession, and it teaches the fundamentals of implementing and managing a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 messaging environment. It is also designed to help individuals preparing to take the Microsoft Certified Professional examination : Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server Statement of Prerequisites: A strong familiarity with networking concepts, a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Server 2003 and Active Directory. Goal: As a result of completing this course, students will build the knowledge and skills necessary to install, configure, administer, and support the security services and tools in a network with Microsoft Windows Exchange Server In addition, this course will help students to prepare for the Microsoft Certified Professional examination : Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server Outcomes: The students will: Learn the skills and knowledge needed to plan, deploy, support, and manage an enterprise messaging server in any type of business. Demonstrate an understanding of an advanced enterprise messaging environment and how it plays a role in businesses today. Demonstrate, through the use of the Hands-on Activities and Real World Case Projects, a realistic and meaningful knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server beyond just a list of technical features Methodology: This course employs a combination of lectures, demonstrations, discussions and hands-on labs. You are expected to thoroughly read the corresponding chapter(s) in the text before the lectures.

2 Evaluation Criteria: Tests and quizzes 10%, Labs and participation 30%, Mid Term exam 20%, Final exam 40% = 100% Scale: >90 A, B, C, D, <60 F. Students who pass the associated Microsoft exam: 284 may, at the instructor s discretion, receive an automatic A in the class. Required Text, Readings, and Materials: MOAC Implementing and Managing Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Package Microsoft Official Academic Course MOAC (Microsoft Official Academic Course) ISBN: pages Class Policies: Quizzes and tests may be computer-based and/or hard-copy (paper) and will include a course Pre-Test to help determine student s current subject knowledge (Pre-Test grade will not be part of students grade). Make-up tests may be permitted with prior arrangement with the instructor but may be denied at the discretion of the instructor for such things as poor homework or attendance record. Late work will not be accepted. Last Date to Change to Audit Status or to Withdraw with a W Grade: Student Rights and Responsibilities: Please refer to the Casper College Student Conduct and Judicial Code for information concerning your rights and responsibilities as a Casper College Student. Chain of Command: If you have any problems with this class, you should first contact the instructor in order to solve the problem. If you are not satisfied with the solution offered by the instructor, you should then take your problem through the appropriate chain of command starting with the department head, then the division chair, and lastly the vice president for academic affairs.
