1 ISACAMALAYSIACHAPTER Issue #32 New sletter pr esident 's message Greetings to my fellow ISACA Malaysia members and on behalf of the 2016/17 Board of Directors, a warm welcome to the New Year 2017! The 2nd half of 2016 has seen many eventful networking / social / charity activities which include four half-day talks, two movie nights, a charity event and the year-end celebration party? in addition to the many training events and conferences organised by ISACA Malaysia and other supporting organisations. This year, ISACA Malaysia Chapter will be organising our annual Cybersecurity, IT Assurance and Governance Conference (CIAG) 2017 in VE Hotel & Residence in the upscale area of Bangsar South. For the first time, the CIAG Conference will be having a four days of exciting topics for the delegates to attend, with pre and post conference events. On top of that, each paying delegates would be given a free tablet each! Please renew your membership while the exchange rate is still favorable to enjoy all the free talks and events we have planned only for our members for year I would like to thank Dr Kim for contributing to our newsletter with her interesting write up as an ISACA member. I am pleased to announce that ISACA Malaysia has earned the 2016 Communications Excellence Award from ISACA International. The award recognises chapters who plan and execute great communications with their members. In addition, ISACA Malaysia has been recognised with honorable mention for 2016 K.Wayne Snipes Award. 2 ANISACAMEMBERYESTERDAY, TODAYAND TOMORROW by dr wong kimhoe In Lisbon, Portugal on April 2016, ISACA M alaysia was presented the 2015 K. Wayne Snipes (Best Very Large Chapter in Asia) and Communications Commendation awards. On membership, ISACA Malaysia achieved 80 percent renewals for 2015 and At the onset of 2017, ISACA Malaysia has 850 members. Don?t these achievements articulate value of being an ISACA Malaysia member? When an individual first chooses to join and then stays on in an organization, there must be commanding reasons behind so. On this note, I would like to share my beliefs on how an ISACA membership can change and shape your career and life through world-class continuous education, globally recognized certifications and invaluable links to people and prospects. Reputable worldwide, ISACA website is graced with an amazing wealth of information that are contemporary with archives for useful referencing. There are research papers, articles, books, newsletters, journals, online tutorials, virtual conferences and webinars. You will have easy reach to insights and updates on industry standards, protocols and best practices from thought leaders and subject matter experts from around the world. Meanwhile locally, ISACA Malaysia works relentlessly at organizing series of talks, workshops, trainings, educational events, seminars, conferences and social activities (such as year-end celebrations/annual dinners, annual general meetings and movie nights). In an environment perpetually evolving, all of these provide great opportunities to learn new skills and update knowledge in important areas of information systems and technology whilst benefiting from online and/or face to face mentorships and connections. Against the backdrop of today?s mounting competitive business and employment landscapes, how can one get ahead or stand out better? One sure way is to earn and own internationally accepted certifications and accreditations for eg. ISACA with its more than 140,000 audit, IT management, governance, security, control, risk and assurance professional members in 187 countries. ISACA qualifications help elevate one?s current worth as well as pave for entry into new areas of expertise. As at January 2017, ISACA Malaysia registered 611 certified professionals comprising 371, 116, 33 and 91 with CISA, CISM, CGEIT and CRISC respectively. Additionally, there are specific certifications as well as accreditations for COBIT 5 trainer, implementer and assessor and Cybersecurity Nexus (CSX) trainer. The de-facto business framework for the governance and management of enterprise IT, COBIT 5 is renowned, comprehensive and increasingly used throughout the world. With automation and computing dominating cyberspace, credible cyber skills are required to detect and mitigate cyber risks. As one Malay proverb says?a tree with strong roots laughs at storms. So grow your cybersecurity, IT assurance and governance knowledge, value and career with ISACA. The annual membership fee should never be a deterrent to join and to stay with ISACA. Reversely, it is a clear display of one?s commitment and passion to be a part of a rapidly expanding global organization. With that, ISACA Malaysia shall be eagerly looking forward to your continual yearly membership renewals and active participations in upcoming events. Expectedly if you are happy with ISACA Malaysia Chapter, do persist to share and invite others on board. 2

3 ITASSURANCE, GOVERNANCE& RISK TRAINING- 18 & 20 OCTOBER The three-days training program was conducted by various professionals who are equipped with their own area of specialities. They are Major Ariffuddin, Dr. Kim, Ms. Elissa Cher and Mr. Diva Sivagurunathan. 9 participants attended the training were provided with the insight of cyber security assurance and brought home with them the COBIT 5 framework on Governance of Enterprise IT, Risk Management, Audit & Assurance and End User Environment. CYBERSECURITYINDIGITALAGETALK - 25 OCTOBER ISACA Malaysia Chapter has invited Goh Su Gim (Senior Cybersecurity Consultant from BAE Systems), Ng Tuck Bin (Security Lead with Dimension Data) and Zion Ngai (AVP with AIG Malaysia) to talk about cybersecurity in digital age. The event was attended by over 60 members. 3

4 MOVIENIGHTDRSTRANGE- 27 OCTOBER As the saying goes:?work Hard, Play Hard? - our chapter members were treated to the second movie night for the year A total of 70 members gathered at GSC Tropicana City Mall to watch the movie?dr Strange?. THE CHANGING LANDSCAPE OF CYBERSECURITY TALK & A BUSINESS APPROACHTOITAUDITING- 15 NOVEMBER Backed by popular demand, ISACA Malaysia Chapter has invited Tichaona Zororo or?tich?, (ISACA Board of Directors and President of ISACA South Africa Chapter) to present the half-day talk on the changing landscape of cybersecurity and a business approach to IT Auditing. 4

5 CHARITYEVENT- 19 NOVEMBER In 2016, the chapter contributed back to the society by spending time and get to know the orphans from Angels Children Home. A total 17 children, 2 care takers, 5 members and 4 Board of Directors were treated with a buffet lunch on top of having fun watching a great movie and spend some time shopping for books. An anonymous donor donated RM1,700 to the home for the children to buy school clothings. CYBERSECURITY: ANORGANISATION PERSPECTIVE- PENANG- 25 NOVEMBER ISACA Malaysia Chapter organised a half day cybersecurity talk: An Organisation Perspective for our members up north i.e Penang Island. The event was attended by over 30 members and non members. 5

6 MOVIENIGHT- ROGUEONE: ASTARWARS STORY- 20 DECEMBER Our chapter members were treated to the third movie night for the year A total of 90 members gathered at GSC Tropicana City Mall to watch the movie?rogue One: A Star Wars Story?. Each members were also given a Star Wars T-Shirt and a tumbler with Star Wars characters on top of it. YEARENDCELEBRATION- 30 DECEMBER ISACA Malaysia Chapter held its year end celebration in Secret of Louisiana, Plaza Kelana Jaya. The event was attended by over 100 members. A free of charge photo booth was arranged for members to have their photos taken and members were treated with sumptuous New Orleans cuisine. 6

7 INFORMATIONSYSTEMSAUDITWORKSHOP JAN16-19, 2017 ISACA Malaysia Chapter conducted a 4 days workshop on Information Systems Audit for the Central Bank of Malaysia. Our board members were the trainers including members from Special Interest Group 1 on Cybersecurity, Mr Eddie Hiu and Mr Anselm Goh. The workshop was attended by 18 internal staffs of the Central Bank. HALFDAYTALK- CYBERSECURITY: WHAT'SINFOR JAN24, 2017 ISACA Malaysia Chapter held a half day talk on cybersecurity in Sime Darby KLGCC. We have invited Mr Jason Yuen (Partner of EY) and Mr Shaharil Abdul Malek (Director of Deloitte) to share with the members on Cybersecurity Resilience and Threat Intelligence & Analytics. The event was attended by over 70 participants. 7

This premier conference will showcase a wide range of knowledgeable speakers and facilitators who are with reputable organisations from various industries and public sector. They will share their vast experiences and knowledge on the cyber security, IT assurance and governance trends, as well as on the latest technologies, and risk and control issues that organisations may face today. apr il In t egr at ed Au dit - KL/ PJ apr il Vir t u alizat ion an d Clou d Com pu t in g - KL/ PJ There will be a Pre and Post Conference training for the delegates on 15th & 18th May Day One (16th May 2017) of the conference will feature the keynote address, plenary and interactive panel discussions sessions, while Day Two (17th May 2017) will be split into business and technical classes covering the latest development on cyber security, IT assurance, IT risk and IT governance. These classes are designed to provide live and practical experiences covering the latest ISACA research and literature such as the CyberSecurity Nexus program and COBIT5 framework. The conference will be fully electronic i.e. all conference delegates will be provided tablet devices whether to stay in tune with the plenary speakers, to pose questions and/or comments during the lively panel discussion to be used in the basic / advanced-classes hands-on approach. Attendees can earn up to 14 continuing professional education credits by attending the conference workshops and breakout sessions.
