1 DEPARTMENT PROGRAMMES CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT 1) DIPLOMA IN CIVIL ENGINEERING This programme is designed to equip students with sound knowledge, skills and attitude and understanding of the environment, construction industries, construction designs and infrastructural development of civil engineering. The knowledge and skills acquired will be useful for success in future or current employment.students will be exposed to soft skills, communication skills and team work so the graduates will communicate, interact and contribute effectively as team members. PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES ( PEO): i. Integrate civil engineering principles and develop critical thinking to solve problem in design works and technically competent in engineering fields ii. Display practical skills and communicate effectively in global work environment iii. iv. Possess in lifelong learning, social responsibilities, entrepreneurship Build leadership and teamwork skills, right altitude and professional ethics PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES ( PLO ): The Diploma in Civil Engineering programme shall produced semi professionals who are : i. apply technical, mathematics, science and humanities knowledge using appropriate civil engineering problems for individual personality development ii. solve systematically well- defined civil engineering problems using appropriate method and technique iii. conduct investigation of well- defined civil engineering problems iv. assist in designing solution for well -defined civil engineering problems with appropriate consideration for public safety, health and environment v. demonstrate practical skills in utilizing civil engineering tools, equipment and machinery vi. communicate effectively with colleague communities and industries vii. demonstrate awareness for society, safety, environment and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities of sustainable development viii. work independently in acquisition of new knowledge and skills, and recognized the need for professional development and information system ix demonstrate awareness in entrepreneurial skills x. demonstrate understanding of professional ethics and responsibilities to the society xi. function effectively as individual and teams with the capability to be a leader.

2 2) DIPLOMA IN QUANTITY SURVEYING The goal of New Economic Model (NEM), is to transform the Malaysian economy to become one with high incomes and quality growth by It stimulates economic growth by improving worker productivity across all sectors including construction. Hence, Construction Industry Master Plan (CIMP) was planned to focus on the enhancement of productivity, efficiency, image, environment awareness, higher quality standard, safety and health employment and in another hand to develop high quality human capital. Therefore, those parties involved in construction industry for instance architect, engineer, quantity surveyor and contractor need to enhance their knowledge and skills through participating courses offered by training centers and education institution. Thus, polytechnic are moving forward to develop diploma in quantity surveying programme to fulfill the needs. Quantity surveyor is a professional who involve directly in financial management and construction contract administration from the initial stage to the completion. A part of that, quantity surveyor is also involve in consultation services of project cost, selection of contract, measurement of quantities and preparation of tender document. Diploma in Quantity Surveying programme is conducted to produce assistant quantity surveying graduates with knowledge, skills and attitudes regarded to be a launch pad to future carrier progression and graduates employability. Diploma in Quantity Surveying course will expose the students to the basic aspects of knowledge in Quantity Surveying theoretically and practically. The programme will be carried out in both theoretically and practically such as lecture, studio work, computer theories and practical training at firms. The scope of the program covers the following areas:- Measurement Construction economics Professional practice Management Construction legal and law Procurement and contract Construction and services The graduates from this programme will have the potential to work in both private and government sector. In addition, they will also have opportunities to further their studies in other higher learning institutions. This programme provides the knowledge and skills in Quantity Surveying and can also be applied to a broad range of careers. 4 ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT 1) DIPLOMA IN ELECTRONIC ENGINEERING (COMMUNICATION) The Diploma in Electronic Engineering (Communication) covers broad discipline of electronics engineering, with specialization in communication technology. The programme is designed with a broad-based electrical and electronic engineering foundation which includes mathematics, electrical and electronic fundamentals, computer fundamentals and programming, communication system fundamentals, semiconductor devices, wiring installation and computer aided design which provides versatility to the graduates, while emphasizing the area of specialization towards the end of the programme. The specialization courses include telephony, fibre optic communication, data communication and networking, wireless communication and microwave devices. Apart from the technical knowledge and skills, the programme also emphasizes on the development of the individual potential of students in an integrated and holistic manner through courses such as Sains, Teknologi dan Kejuruteraan Islam, Nilai Masyarakat Malaysia, Co-curriculum, and Entrepreneurship This programme provides the knowledge and skills in communication engineering that can be applied to a broad range of careers in most electronic communication field. The broad-based electrical and electronics foundation of which includes electrical and electronic principles, computer fundamental and programming, computer aided design, semiconductor devices, communication systems, wiring installation, power system, electrical machine and programmable logic controller. The knowledge and skills coverage of both fields would provide graduates with a wider range of employment opportunities. Apart from the technical knowledge and skills, the programme also emphasizes on the development of the individual potential of students in an integrated and holistic manner through courses such as Islamic studies, moral studies, co-curriculum, soft skills and entrepreneurship. This programme provides the knowledge and skills in electrical engineering that can be applied to a broad range of careers in most power generation provider and manufacturing industries. The broad-based electronics foundation of which includes power, control, instrumentation and computers provides versatility to the graduates, while emphasizing the area of specialization. These graduates are forecast to serve in the field of electrical engineering. The use of electrical and electronics equipment today requires skilled and trained technicians necessary for these new challenges. Core courses offered include Engineering Mechanics, Electrical Technology, Engineering Drawing, Mechanical Workshop Practice, Workshop Technology, Computer Aided Design, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Strength Of Materials, Pneumatic & Hydraulics, Project, Maintenance Engineering & Management, Material Science, Mechanic Of Machines, Engineering Design and Mechanical Components & Maintenance. Recognise the needs for professional development and to engage in independent and lifelong learning. 3) DIPLOMA IN MECHATRONIC ENGINEERING Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering at Polytechnic s Ministry of Education Malaysia is designed to cover the current wide discipline of mechatronic engineering with added specialization subjects in the field of mechatronic engineering. Core courses offered include Engineering Drawing, Mechatronic Workshop Practice, C Programming, Electrical Technology, Thermofluid, Engineering Mechanics, Computer Aided Design, Electronic System, Strength Of Materials, Industrial Electronics, Digital System, Programmable Logic Controller, Control System, Pneumatic & Hydraulics, Power Electronics, Project, Industrial Automation, Power Transmission Mechanism and Embedded System Application. Graduates are also required to complete one elective course at each semester 5 and 6 with a minimum total of four credits. Elective courses include Microprocessor, CADCAM, Industrial Robotics, Industrial Management, C++ Programming, Diagnosis & Troubleshooting for Mechanical Component, Tamadun Islam, Integrasi Malaysia and Computer Application. Common core courses included in the programme are Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Science and Entrepreneurship. Compulsory courses offered include Sains Teknologi dan Kejuruteraan Dalam Islam, Komunikasi dan Penyiaran Islam, Pengajian Malaysia, Nilai Masyarakat Malaysia, Communicative English, Sukan, Kelab/Persatuan, Asas Unit Beruniform dan Unit Beruniform would provide students with interpersonal ability, attitude and professionalism towards their career. The Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering programme shall produce semi-professionals Who are: i. The broad-based mechanical engineering foundation courses which includes Engineering Drawing, Eelectrical Technology, Mechanical Workshop Practice, Workshop Technology, Engineering Mechanics, Computer Aided Design, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Pneumatic and Hydraulics and Strength of Materials provides versatility to the graduates, while emphasizing the area of specialization in Agricultural. Some of the specialized courses are Agricultural Mechanization, Agricultural Mechanization Practice, Soil Engineering, Farm Structure, Agriculture Processing Engineering and Water Engineering. Biosystem and Waste Management Technology, Agricultural Machinery and Workshop Management and Automation and Robotic in Agriculture are also offered as a value-added in knowledge and skill to expose student in real challenges career. Demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork responsibility. 2) DIPLOMA IN MARKETING Diploma in Marketing will provide students the opportunity to obtain knowledge of the principles of marketing and develop skills and techniques used by marketing practitioners in a competitive business environment. The main objective is to enhance the students ability to perform marketing tasks that encompasses the marketing mix, consumer behaviour, marketing research and decision making, either at the local or international level. Students will be exposed to various environmental forces that affect the marketing activities. To produce a competent student, this programme includes other related fields such as trading, accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, advertising, retailing, legal and information technology. The knowledge will help students to make the right marketing decisions. To boost students self-confidence in communication, English courses will be taught throughout the programme. In tandem with the government s objective to produce a balanced human capital, this programme also includes religious and moral courses. To further enhance students ability and skill in marketing, students will undergo a five (6) semester programme inclusive of industrial training. This programme aims to provide the knowledge needed to understand the vital role marketing plays in the success of business organization. Through case studies and team projects, students will be able to analyse current market situations, identify and evaluate market opportunities and learn to develop an integrated marketing plan. Hence, it is envisioned that this programme will produce qualified, transformative and competence graduates who are able to be part of the manpower in the business sector. The Diploma in Marketing programme shall produce graduates who are: i. Knowledgeable and technically competent in marketing discipline in line with the industry requirement ii. Demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork responsibility 3) DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTANCY The Diploma in Accountancy in polytechnics, under the Ministry of Education is designed to equip graduates with knowledge and skills with integrated educational experience in disciplines, areas and sub-areas of financial accounting, auditing, taxation and cost accounting as well as management knowledge, information technology, entrepreneurship and interpersonal development. The objective of this programme is providing the accounting education at professional level to meet the demands of both the public and private sectors. The aims of this programme are to equip the future graduates with accounting and management skills in business environment in order to build their careers in accountancy. Each of the courses in the accounting programme includes rigorous education, examination, experience, interpersonal developments and ethics requirements. This programme is designed and benchmarked with the accounting professional bodies in Malaysia which is stated in Schedule 1, Part 2 of the Accountants Act 1967, International Accounting Standards (IAS), International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and Programme Standards Accounting under Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA). Graduates will be awarded Diploma in Accountancy by the polytechnics. The Diploma in Accountancy programme shall produce professionals who are: i. Demonstrate effective leadership and teamwork responsibility. 4) DIPLOMA IN INSURANCE Insurance is one of the fastest growing service industry in Malaysia and it is expected to grow in line with the economic growth in Malaysia fuelled by the increase in industrial and trade export. Diploma in Insurance programme is formulated to produce graduates who are qualified to fulfil the need for qualified expertise in the insurance industry. It has numerous levels of complexity that can make it invaluable to the students who chooses this programme. Diploma in Insurance covers important insurance practices, types of insurance coverage, legal aspects of insurance, personal and commercial insurance, underwriting and claims handling, risk management and investment.
