Pros: it does a great job covering fundamentals you will encounter on some 60% of this exam and the summary study guide cards are awesome in how they present the basics of the material for memorization. Cons: It does nothing to prepare you for the performance-based questions or different scenarios, through the book or the accompanying bonus materials cd. The wording of the N test questions is ambiguous for about one third of the exam questions. I used this guide and Anthony Sequeira's guides with flashcards, plus 2 other titles. I have a BS in Computer Science and have worked in networking and IT for more than a few years so I when I went to add this "beginner's cert" to my resume this year, I was really surprised at the scope of the material that had to be studied for only questions and then the poor quality of the exam I took today. This cert is supposed to be pointed at beginner techs with about 9 months of network experience and I think I cry bs on this test design. The retest is free so I will take it but I won't be renewing this cert. It isn't that accurate and it is definitely overkill for a novice. I can take this test again soon and I may after the holidays, after I add 2 more study guides to the mix.comptia notes: I might mention that my performance questions today behaved erratically on screen as well, when you applied or saved adjustments to a pop up entry screen the test engine would close out the entire problem to the start page again. I couldn't tell if my answers were being applied or saved! I bought the previous version in 2014 and this one in I've realized that I hate this book. It is

4 poorly written and poorly organized. The information is all there (I assume), but I am literally rewriting this book myself to make it mentally legible. There's no way I could choke down the content otherwise. I liked the exam cram for the A+ cert, but that was a different writer.he uses wording in such a way that he is covering his ass by being specific, but it is overly specific. He also uses what I would call a personification to describe the functions of things. He also smashes extra information into paragraphs without explaining it, without the reader knowing if the "extras" will be discussed in greater depth later on (if so - don't mention them until then, if not, then explain them; if you absolutely have to mention them, explain that they will be covered later on).here are some examples:network LayerThe primary responsibility of the network layer is routing - providing the mechanisms by which data can be passed from one network system to another. He makes sure to say that it doesn't mean that the network layer specifies how data is passed, "but rather provides the mechanisms to do so." And then finally he explains that "Functionality at the network layer is provided through routing protocols, which are software components."the second paragraph starts with: Protocols at the network layer are also responsible for route selection, which refers to determining the best path for the data to take throughout the network. Then mentions what a packet is.
