5 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION CUSTOMER SETUP INFORMATION Epic Remote System is an asynchronous and centralized software and hardware system for digital sign content creation, editing, programming, management, transmission, playback, monitoring and remote control for the TL Vision LED display. It consists of the following main components: Epic PC this computer is normally supplied by Trans Lux contains the following programs: o o o PlutoManager software for content creation, editing, programming, management, transmission and remote monitoring of digital sign content for and to the Control Card for remote display on the TL Vision sign. This program has flexible network structure, so that it can be easily deployed in the local area network and wide area network, supports the server free, single server, and multi server architectures, and suits different scale projects under different situations. The NovaCloud software is required when a server is available. For details, see related materials about NovaCloud. NovaLCT Pluto display configuration software which mainly controls the TL Vision display s smart setting, performance parameter setting, brightness adjustment and calibration, to achieve the best performance. Network Card required for TCP/IP connections. TCP/IP via LAN all communication uses TCP/IP via LAN and can be set up using a standalone direct wired, network direct wired, standalone wireless, or network wireless. TL Vision full color video display. o Control Card the remote control card (PSD100 or PBOX100) located in the TL Vision display receives and stores the digital files created by PlutoManager via the network connection; and then displays them on the TL Vision. 6 CUSTOMER SETUP INFORMATION SETUP INFORMATION If all component supplied by Trans Lux, then all necessary programs are installed and components are factory set to static IP address shown below. WARNING! Document any changes made to the Control Card and Antenna settings. Not having these settings could prevent Epic Remote from connecting to the sign. If the Epic PC is supplied by the customer, then proceed with instructions in this chapter: Minimum Computer Requirements below, Software Installation below, If Windows XP Turn Off Windows Firewall below, Set IP Address of Epic PC on page 4, then Connection Options on page 5. CUSTOMER SETUP INFORMATION MINIMUM COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS If the Epic PC supplied by the customer meets the following requirements: The PC must be capable of running the PlutoManager and NovaLCT Pluto software. Please refer to the Installation & Configuration section of the Nova Pluto Instruction Manual ( ) for minimum PC requirements. PC with Window XP or Vista Operating System. Network Card installed for TCP/IP connection. Static IP address with subnet mask for standalone direct wired, network direct wired, standalone wireless, or network wireless connections. High speed LAN as needed depending on connection type. Then proceed to Software Installation instructions below. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION If the Epic PC is supplied by the customer, then install NovaLCT Pluto and PlutoManager software to your Epic PC from the software installation CD provided with your equipment. Note: The software allows the Epic PC to link to the Control Card, create messages and schedules at your convenience and then transfer the files to the TL Vision Control Card. Refer to the Installation & Configuration section of the Nova Pluto Instruction Manual ( ). IF WINDOWS XP TURN OFF WINDOWS FIREWALL If the Epic PC supplied by the customer is running on Microsoft Windows XP operating system, then you may encounter intermittent connections. Turn off Windows Firewall as follows: Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button 1. Desktop > Start > Settings > Control Panel 2. Control Panel > Network Connections 3. Network Connections > Local Area Connection 4. Local Area connection Properties > Advanced > Settings 5. Windows Firewall > Off [not recommended] > OK 6. Local Area Connection Properties > OK 7. 8 CUSTOMER SETUP INFORMATION SET IP ADDRESS OF EPIC PC The user must first change the IP address of the Epic PC in preparation to connect and link to the Control Card. WARNING! If your network is using static IP addresses, then make a record of the IP address before proceeding. Refer Epic PC IP on page 2 to record your settings. Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button 1. Desktop > Start > Control Panel Adjust your computer s settings View your basic network information and set up connections > View by: Category > View network status and tasks > Local Area Connection 4. Local Area Connection Status > Properties 5. Local Area Connection Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) > Properties WARNING! If your network is using static IP addresses, make a record of the current IP address before proceeding. STANDALONE DIRECT WIRED Epic PC Setup: Static IP address Control Card Setup: Static IP address (unique from Epic PC) The Epic PC and Control Card are configured at the factory for use as standalone units. If the Epic PC is supplied by Fair Play or if the Epic PC is supplied by the customer, and if the requirements and instructions on section PC by Customer on page 3 have been met or accomplished, then: Proceed to Link to Control Card below. LINK TO CONTROL CARD The following steps will establish a program link from PlutoManager to the Control Card. 1. Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button Connect Epic PC to TL Vision Control Card via Cat5e, or Cat5e and fiber optic. Refer to Cat5 Direct on page 14 or Fiber Direct on page 15 connection diagrams. 2. Desktop > Start > All Programs > Nova Star > PlutoManager Wait a moment for Pluto Manager to automatically link to the Control Card, and the following information will be shown: PlutoManager Client information: Online: 1 [green] Server information: Connect IP:... 10 NETWORK DIRECT WIRED NETWORK WIRED WARNING! Network connections are inherently complicated due to the wide range of equipment that the customers may already have. There are numerous ways networks may be configured. Networked connections must be set up by properly authorized and qualified network administrators. The setups below are for reference only. If your network is using static IP addresses, then make a record of the IP address before proceeding. Refer Epic PC IP on page 2 to record your settings. Epic PC Setup: Network Setup: Control Card: Static IP configured by network administrator. Typically Unique static IP reserved for Control Card. Static IP must match IP reserved in network. automatically assigned IP by Subnet matches network the network (DHCP). subnet. The following instructions describe how to establish a wired connection between a TL Vision Control Card and an Epic PC on the user s local area network (LAN). If the Epic PC is supplied by Fair Play or if the Epic PC is supplied by the customer, and if the requirements and instructions on section PC by Customer on page 3 have been met or accomplished, then: Proceed to Set IP address of Control Card on page 7. 11 NETWORK DIRECT WIRED SET IP ADDRESS OF CONTROL CARD WARNING! The Control Card must be configured to use a static IP address assigned by your network administrator. DO NOT select Obtain an IP address automatically. Doing so may cause the Control Card to become inaccessible from the network. The following steps sets the IP address of the Control Card to a static IP address assigned by the network administrator so that the Control Card can be accessed once it is connected to the network. 1. Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button Do not use a network connection until step 24 on page 8. Connect the Epic PC directly to TL Vision Control Card via standalone direct wired method (Cat5e or Cat5e and fiber optic). Refer to Cat5 Direct on page 14 or Fiber Direct on page 15 connection diagrams. 2. Desktop > Start > All Programs > Nova Star > NovaLCT Pluto 3. NovaLCT Pluto > Systems(S) > Search All Site(S) 4. Search Pluto Terminal Window > allow search to complete then select name with IP address of > Connect Terminal. 5. NovaLCT Pluto > User(U) > Advanced Login(A) 6. User Login > Password: admin > Login. 7. NovaLCT Pluto > Setting(N) > Client Config(C) > Net Config(E) Network Parameter Settings Window Change network parameters need to restart the network card, the current connection will be disconnected, so be careful treatment! Send network parameters successful! > Configure system network parameters to connect in LAN > IP Address: [assigned by your network administrator] > Subnet Mask: [assigned by your network administrator] > Gateway: [assigned by your network administrator] > DNS: [assigned by your network administrator] > Send. > OK. > OK. 11. 13 STANDALONE WIRELESS STANDALONE WIRELESS Epic PC Setup: Epic PC static IP address Base Antenna static IP address Control Card Setup: Control Card static IP address Sign Antenna static IP address The Epic PC, EnGenius wireless antennas and TL Vision Control Card are configured at the factory with static IPs for use as standalone units. The following procedure describes how to configure the wireless connection between a standalone Epic PC and a Control Card. If the Epic PC is supplied by the Fair Play or If the Epic PC is supplied by the customer, and if the requirements and instructions on section PC by Customer on page 3 have been met or accomplished, then: Proceed to Link to Control Card below. LINK TO CONTROL CARD The following steps will establish a program link from PlutoManager to the Control Card. Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button Connect the Epic PC to Base Antenna and connect the Sign Antenna to the TL Vision Control Card. For connection diagram, refer to WiFi Bridge on page The EnGenius antennas are directional, must be installed in matched pairs, and must be horizontally facing each other. Consult the EnGenius User s Manual for further information. This guide can also be found online at Note: Fair Play has tested the two EnGenius antennas up to a maximum range of 2,000 foot line of sight. The EnGenius Base Antenna must be connected to the POE (Power Over Ethernet) via the provided Cat5e shielded outdoor Ethernet cable. The POE must be plugged to a power source with an AC power cord and the power (PWR) indicator light on the antenna must be lit. 2. The Epic PC, EnGenius wireless antennas and TL Vision Control Card are configured at the factory with static IPs for use as standalone units. They can be connected to the network using static IP addresses assigned by your network administrator. Get static IP addresses from your network administrator. If the Epic PC is supplied by Fair Play or If the Epic PC is supplied by the customer, and if the requirements and instructions on section PC by Customer on page 3 have been met or accomplished, then: Proceed to Set IP Address of Control Card on page 11. 15 NETWORK WIRELESS SET IP ADDRESS OF CONTROL CARD WARNING! The Control Card must be configured to use a static IP address assigned by your network administrator. DO NOT select Obtain an IP address automatically. Doing so may cause the Control Card to become inaccessible from the network. The following steps sets the IP address of the Control Card to a static IP address assigned by the network administrator so that the Control Card can be accessed when it is connected to the network. 1. Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button Connect the Epic PC to the Control Card using a standalone wireless connection. For connection diagram, refer to WiFi Bridge on page 16. Do not use a network connection until step 32 on page 13. The EnGenius antennas are directional, must be installed in matched pairs, and must be horizontally facing each other. Consult the EnGenius User s Manual for further information. 16 NETWORK WIRELESS SET IP ADDRESS OF ENGENIUS ANTENNAS This section describes how to use access the configuration software for the EnGenius antennas an HTML management system built into every EnGenius unit. This management system can be accessed through the Cat5e Ethernet cable connection or thru the wireless connection so you can manage both sides of the link from a single location. WARNING! These settings are only for more technically advanced users who have sufficient knowledge about wireless LANs. Do not change the settings unless you know what effect the changes will have on your network. Once your IP address is changed, you must use the new IP address for any further communication with the sign. If the IP address is changed and lost, communication may not be restored unless the parts are sent to Trans Lux. Dialog Box/Window Select Menu Item or Button 13. [assigned by network administrator] > Apply button Any additional adjustments made to the Sign Antenna must also be made to the Base Antenna. 17.
