The Brocade Mobility 1240 Access Point (AP) goes beyond typical AP functionality and features. In addition to providing high-speed and reliable network access, its unique modular design protects investments by enabling organizations to easily adapt to future requirements. Similar to the Brocade Mobility 7131 and a component of the Brocade HyperEdge Architecture, the Brocade Mobility 1240 provides enterprises and branch offices with the performance, flexibility, and resiliency required for wireless enterprises while two USB slots provide a modular design for meeting future requirements. The band-unlocked tri-radio design delivers simultaneous support for three major networking functions: High-speed wireless voice, video, and data services for client access Self-healing mesh networking Dedicated wireless Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) sensor functionality for protection of wireless and wired networks

2 BROCADE HYPEREDGE ARCHITECTURE The Brocade HyperEdge Architecture brings campus networks into the modern era to better support mobility, security, and application agility. This evolutionary architecture integrates innovative wired and wireless technologies to streamline application deployment, simplify network management, and reduce operating costs. The HyperEdge Architecture enables organizations to build networks that are: Agile: By eliminating Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) between HyperEdge Domain switches through a flatter Layer 2 design, the HyperEdge Architecture increases link utilization and reduces application deployment complexity. The Distributed AP Forwarding functionality of Brocade wireless Access Points (APs) efficiently secures and directs mobile traffic at the network edge without tunneling data back to a central controller at the network core. Automated: By grouping premium and entry-level switches with intelligent wireless APs into a consolidated management domain, HyperEdge Domains eliminate the need to provision and manage devices individually simplifying network deployment and management. Cost-effective: The HyperEdge Architecture enables the propagation of advanced features and services from premium switches to entry-level switches, allowing IT organizations to purchase only what they need today and add intelligent services as the business evolves. Further cost savings is achieved with Brocade wireless solutions using controller-less or controller-shared license deployment options. OPTIMIZING THE USER EXPERIENCE The Brocade Mobility 1240 is a three-spatialstream AP with two radios, delivering data rates of up to 450 Mbps per radio over a non-blocking architecture. Advanced n features such as Space Time Block Coding (STBC) and beamforming technology provide improved connectivity. By using redundant data streams and RF characteristic mapping to compensate for interference, STBC improves signal robustness for an optimal user experience. SINGLE DEVICE CONVERGES FUNCTIONALITY AND MANAGEMENT The Brocade Mobility 1240 is designed to cost-effectively meet the needs of large, distributed enterprises by converging the functionality of stand-alone and dependent APs into a single device. This adaptive mode enables the deployment of a fullfeature, intelligent n AP that can be centrally configured and managed via a Brocade wireless controller in corporate headquarters. REMOTE SITE SURVIVABILITY SAFEGUARDS SERVICE Within an Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) tunnel, the Brocade Mobility 1240 secures all traffic to the wireless controller. In the event of a WAN, distribution, or core network failure, this fully independent configuration provides a Remote Site Survivability (RSS) feature to deliver secure, uninterrupted wireless service in the remote location offering unparalleled network resiliency. HIGH-DENSITY CLIENT LOAD BALANCING Neighbor APs can share client load upon initial association and as clients roam, based on either the count of clients per AP or the load on each AP. The Brocade Mobility 1240 AP is ideal for dense deployments in auditoriums, stadiums, and conference rooms, helping to ensure optimal performance for wireless clients. Neighbor AP tables can be built automatically and manually configured by IT. By distributing Wireless LANs (WLANs) to multiple Virtual LANs (VLANs), organizations achieve better traffic management as well. MESH FUNCTIONALITY ENABLES COST-EFFECTIVE MULTILINK NETWORKS The Brocade Mobility 1240 includes mesh functionality that enables cost-effective wireless network extension to areas where Ethernet or fiber cabling is cost-prohibitive or otherwise impractical. Mesh functionality includes multi-node and multilink networks as well as simple point-to-point bridging to connect two wired networks. Self-healing capabilities help ensure continuity of service in the event of a wired or wireless network failure. In addition, the self-forming and highly resilient VLAN and Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) Quality of Service (QoS) aware mesh technology gives organizations the ability to wirelessly extend reliable high-performance voice and data services to users in remote and outdoor locations.

3 ENTERPRISE-CLASS SECURITY PROTECTS THE NETWORK The Brocade Mobility 1240 stateful firewall supports key standards-based security protocols to help ensure enterprise-level protection for wired and wireless network infrastructures as well as for data in transmission over WLANs. Only authorized users can access the network, which protects the network perimeter and valuable resources. The powerful feature set enables security administration by either local, non-technical staff, or remote IT professionals at the headquarters or NOC. In addition, the Brocade Mobility 1240 is designed to function as a wireless IPS sensor, enabling automatic 24 7 monitoring of wireless networks. CONSOLIDATED NETWORK MANAGEMENT REDUCES COMPLEXITY To reduce complexity and the costs of managing campus environments, Brocade Network Advisor works seamlessly within the HyperEdge Architecture to discover, manage, and deploy configurations to groups of IP devices. By using the Brocade Network Advisor Device Configuration Manager tool, organizations can configure VLANs, manage wireless AP realms, group WLAN switches into domains for Layer 3 mobility support, or execute Command Line Interface (CLI) commands on specific devices or groups of devices.
