Delivering faster broadband, further... Broadband technology solutions for existing NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURES
Page 1 Address the challenge of delivering more for less Delivering faster broadband, further Genesis provides technology solutions for delivering faster broadband further, over existing networks. Service providers today face the ongoing challenge of delivering more, for less. Higher bandwidth broadband and a greater range of content services, at a cost effective price. Genesis addresses these challenges, providing solutions that deliver multiple benefits, including: Up to 20 times faster bandwidth over your existing networks The opportunity to increase your Average Revenue per User (ARPU) through provision of high bandwidth services The ability to quickly realise a return on your investment typically within 18 months Quick and easy deployment, without extensive civil planning and trenching The capability to leverage your fixed network to offer next generation wireless & community WiFi (HaLow) Genesis provides solutions for: Residential broadband T1/E1 replacement Enterprise broadband 3G macrocell backhaul Suburban and rural broadband Small cell backhaul Next generation WiFi (HaLow) Genesis has won, and been shortlisted for, a number of awards including: Winner Fierce Telecom Last Mile Innovation Award Winner TechRev Innovator Award Shortlisted for Graham Bell Award for Best Communication Solutions Shortlisted for Total Telecoms Innovation Award Copyright c 2016 Genesis Technical Systems Corp. 3 Page 2 Deliver up to 20x faster broadband to the home Residential broadband DSL Rings is a residential broadband solution that delivers up to 20x faster broadband to homes over both copper, and -to-the * (FTTN) networks. DSL Rings is designed to comply with the existing infrastructure, making it easy to deploy since it doesn t require new technical skills, right-of-way, or trenching. DSL Rings deployments are cost effective and highly profitable for Carriers. They avoid the huge up-front costs of providing fibre-only infrastructure to people s homes, and the years necessary to realise a return on investment (ROI). With DSL Rings ROI is typically realised within 18 months via a pay as you grow deployment model. DSL Rings in the residential network Unbonded Copper DSLAM NODE Carriers frequently opt for FTTN deployments to reduce fibre costs, but because the bandwidth delivered to the customer is dependent on their distance from the, they could still fall short of delivering the required capacity. DSL Rings delivers fast, high capability broadband, even when the fibre fed is a considerable distance from the home. The diagram to the right illustrates that DSL Rings can be deployed in FTTN, -to-the-pedestal and existing copper networks. Also note that not all houses serviced by the pedestal need to subscribe to DSL Rings simultaneously. *Network terminology differs by region. Please note that represents Cabinet, Pedestal represents Distribution Point and Central Office represents Exchange in some regions. DSL Rings provides: Next generation superfast broadband at a fraction of the cost of -to-the-home (FTTH). Fast, service enhancing broadband connections and improved mobile coverage in rural, suburban and urban locations. A cost effective solution with no preliminary infrastructure investment required. DSL Rings costs can typically be recovered within 18 months, significantly improving returns from rapid, demand-led roll-out. Improved customer acquisition, win-back and retention rates - facilitated by offering far better, faster deployment, higher bandwidth and low unit cost (per Mb/s) than current methods of delivering broadband services over copper. Quick and easy installation with negligible regulatory, architectural and environmental impact. An ideal platform for deploying small cells and next generation WiFi. 4 Page 3 Increase your E1/T1 bandwidth by up to 10x T1/E1 replacement mbond solutions for T1/E1 replacement include point-to-point and point-to-multipoint solutions. Whether your T1/E1s are servicing mobile base stations, electricity networks, transport networks, utility stations or commercial buildings, mbond offers a number of options for increasing the bandwidth up to a factor of ten. The diagram below illustrates mbond Complete deployed in a utility company network. In this instance the increased bandwidth enables services such as alarms and CCTV, which could not previously be supported by the unbonded pairs, to be deployed in the Utility. mbond Complete in the utility network ALARMS CCTV SERVICE HUB mbond CO 12 Bonded pairs mbond CE UTILITY NODE Ethernet mbond Complete is a point-to-point solution with no DSLAM requirement. mbond Flex provides similar capabilities in networks with existing DSLAM investments and a need for a point-to-multipoint solution.
Page 4 Flexible solutions for your business customers Enterprise broadband While a network core can be scaled up relatively easily, accessing that core can be a real challenge for businesses, with communications providers struggling to provide cost effective and justifiable solutions. mbond Complete, provides up to twelve lines of bonded VDSL2 rate access across dedicated copper pairs when no DSLAM s are deployed in the network. mbond Flex offers the same twelve lines via in situ DSLAMs and offers support for ADSL2+ (in addition to VDSL2) allowing service providers to increase their bandwidth over longer distances. While VDSL2 offers high throughput up to 1 mile, ADSL2+ can extend the reach up to 3 miles. mbond Flex also offers many new possibilities to the service provider, opening up access and architecture choices and opportunities for revenues and services that were previously out of reach. For example, a single mbond Flex Exchange Gateway can support many customer edge devices over a geographically diverse, mixed set of vendor DSLAM s, it is ideally placed to form the hub of a managed service for a business with several branches, or an organisation with a number of depots. Most commercially available bonding products are DSLAM specific and subsequently work with some DSLAMs and not with others. A key feature of mbond Flex is its ability to work with any DSLAM. Thus allowing service providers to reuse their existing DSLAMs, where they have already made investments, subsequently reducing their network equipment costs. It also allows the same solution to be marketed over the entire estate, regardless of DSLAM equipment differences that may exist. The diagram below illustrates mbond Flex deployed in the network to deliver enhanced broadband services to a business park and multi dwelling unit. mbond Flex in the enterprise network Exchange Gateway Software DSLAM NODE VDSL2 1 mile ADSL2+ 3 miles mbond CE BUSINESS PARK mbond CE up to 30 Mb/s MULTI-DWELLING up to 150 Mb/s
Page 5 Increase the capacity throughout of your macrocell 3G macrocell backhaul mbond delivers backhaul performance improvements using existing copper pairs that increase throughput and revenue per macrocell, and allow operators to materially improve Quality of Service and income potential, even via peripheral cells. Traditionally operators have had three choices for backhaul: standard copper, microwave or fibre. Each has strengths and weaknesses but there are still many settings in which none is appropriate. mbond provides a critical fourth way, ideal for peri-urban, suburban and rural settings where delivering an exceptional customer experience is no less important, but where traffic volumes do not justify major backhaul investment. The widest possible use of existing infrastructure helps operators keep CAPEX and OPEX to a minimum. With mbond you will: Improve customer experience with materially improved data throughout on any enabled macrocell Provide more users, more uses and more frequent use per macrocell Not require any preliminary infrastructure investment Have a technology solution that you can quickly and easily deploy with a single rack unit per macrocell Have a network agnostic solution that supports all GSM - derivative technologies to LTE and beyond and all wireless technologies including WiMAX and CDMA The diagram below illustrates mbond Complete for macrocell backhaul mbond Complete in the macrocell backhaul network MACROCELL Ethernet mbond 12-CO mbond 12-CE Ethernet
Page 6 A COST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION FOR YOUR SUBURBAN AND RURAL CUSTOMERS Rural broadband The challenge with rural is both that DSL bandwidths are potentially non-existent over long distances, and that fibre installation costs are not viable for Carriers because rural areas, are by their nature, areas with low population density. With low numbers of potential customers, and associated revenue, Carriers are unable to justify fibre investments. Genesis has designed a way to make copper work for rural by applying intelligent networking concepts, including add drop multiplexers (ADMs), vectoring and shared backhaul. Add Drop Multiplexers ADMs shorten the transmission distance to increase the available bandwidth. The use of ADMs in this context is based on the principles that each house can send traffic (Add), each house can receive traffic meant for it (Drop), each house can pass traffic through that s not meant for it (Pass-through) and that each house can receive traffic that it needs and forward it onwards if other houses need it as well (drop and continue multicast). Shared backhaul Genesis has designed the capability to, not only terminate the bonded link from the Central Office but to also, initiate another bonded link towards another down the road. It is thus possible for Genesis to provide up to 100 Mb/s bandwidth to homes that are greater than 4 miles from the central office using the existing copper wire infrastructure, depending on the distances from the central office to the first and between s. Vectoring Crosstalk has always existed in copper networks but it has become a bigger problem as higher frequencies are used in DSL acceleration technologies to provide higher bandwidths. However, cross talk can be managed, and for the most part cancelled completely; if intelligent algorithms are applied to the data signals (called pre-conditioning) before they are transmitted, enabling bandwidths at any given distance to be potentially doubled. Vectoring cancels crosstalk so signals travel farther with less degradation. However, given the complexity of the vectoring algorithms involved Genesis would only use vectoring in short haul (<0.75 miles) links, beyond this the benefits of vectoring are extremely limited. 8 Page 7 Incorporate wireless capabilities with your home broadband services Converged Networks: fixed broadband, next generation WiFi and mobile small cells Fixed & mobile broadband are embedded in the fabric of society. Video streaming, the Internet of Things (IoT), & mobile payments are expected to be available everywhere. 3G small cell deployment platform And much, much more... all on an already paid-for infrastructure asset No need to dig up the streets Quick deployment of services New customers More revenue The diagram below illustrates DSL Rings deployed in the network providing enhanced broadband capabilities to homes at the same time as delivered backhaul bandwidth for small cells and next generation WiFi. Carriers are feeling the squeeze as customers expect more, for less. They want fast broadband with multiple service offerings with commodity pricing. Carriers are looking to improve network quality without investing in to the Home (FTTH) where they are unlikely to see a return that investment for decades. Using the existing network is an economical and viable solution that can deliver: Up to 400 Mb/s combined upstream & downstream fixed broadband access 300+ Mb/s community WiFi access Rural access speeds of up to 100 Mb/s Automatic meter reading & IoT functionality via HaLow DSL Rings in the converged network XGW DSLAM NODE
