Switch your business to the nbn network
1 Take your business into the future Great news, the nbn network Australia s new fast and reliable landline phone and internet network has arrived in your area 1 and your business is ready to connect. As most current services may eventually be disconnected, you should switch across to the nbn network as soon as you can. 2 (Existing fibre networks and some specific business services such as ISDN may not be affected.) 1. Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn network, depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans and how your service provider designs its network). 2. Services provided over the nbn network will be replacing phone and internet services provided over most of the existing landline networks, including copper and the majority of HFC networks within the fixed line footprint. Existing fibre networks include in-building, health and education networks. Some special services and business services may not be affected. To find out if your services will be affected, please contact your current phone or internet provider. The switch off date is subject to change. For more information, visit nbn.com.au/switchoff or call
Switch now to avoid disconnection 1 As we upgrade to the nbn network, most landline and internet services are being disconnected. To help minimise disruption to your business, it s important that you switch your affected landline phone and internet services before they are disconnected. 1 You can find your scheduled disconnection date online at nbn.com.au/business 1. Services provided over the nbn network will be replacing phone and internet services provided over most of the existing landline networks, including copper and the majority of HFC networks within the fixed line footprint. Services provided over existing fibre networks (including in-building, health and education networks) and some special and business services may not be affected. To find out if your services will be affected, please contact your current phone or internet provider. The switch off date is subject to change. For more information, visit nbn.com.au/switchoff or call
How to switch your business Contact a phone or internet provider and ask to switch your landline phone and internet services to the nbn network. Your provider will help you choose a plan to suit your usage and needs, including business bundles with voice and data. They will also advise you as to the speeds you can expect to enjoy once you re connected to a service over the nbn network. 1 Don t have a preferred provider? Visit nbn.com.au/business to see a list of providers in your area. Switching other important business services and devices If you have any of the devices below, you ll need to contact your equipment provider and discuss whether the device will work over the nbn network. Your equipment provider can help minimise a break in service after the existing network is switched off. 2 Please register your fire alarms or lift emergency phones Call us on or register online at nbn.com.au/fireandlift Business services not affected Telecommunications services such as ISDN, Frame Relay, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Megalink DDS and others will continue to work until further notice. Business plans over the nbn network There are a number of plans and bundles for phone and internet available over the nbn network. You should talk to your phone or internet provider about the best plan to suit the amount of data you use and the internet speed you require. ATMs & EFTPOS Lift emergency phones Monitored fire & security alarm systems Fax machines & TTY devices Contact your equipment provider (such as the bank that provides your EFTPOS machine) to ensure your equipment will work over the nbn network and minimise any disruption in service. 2 Switch today Contact a phone or internet provider about switching to the nbn network 1. Services provided over existing fibre networks (including in-building, health and education networks) and some special and business services may not be affected. To find out if your services will be affected, please contact your current phone or internet provider. The switch off date is subject to change. For more information, visit nbn.com.au/switchoff or call
3 Businesses succeeding on the nbn network The nbn network is already helping thousands of businesses across Australia unlock their potential by boosting productivity and letting them take advantage of more opportunities. Speed for increased efficiency High-speed internet is helping businesses be more productive and profitable by making it quicker and easier to send large attachments, download files and access data in the cloud. In addition, streamlined document and screen sharing is allowing staff to work more efficiently together. Communicating with people all over the world Many businesses are also finding it easier to build their brand and bring their expertise to the world with the help of fast internet over the nbn network. Staff can use programs such as Skype without constant buffering and connection issues, helping them collaborate more effectively and connect more meaningfully with customers. A big boost for small and remote businesses With fast broadband, many remote businesses can provide a more engaging customer service experience and be more responsive on websites, forums and social media. 1 Retailers who struggled to do business online due to poor internet connections are now forging ahead into new territories to achieve local and global success. 1. Your experience, including the speeds actually achieved over the nbn network, depends on the technology over which services are delivered to your premises and some factors outside our control (like your equipment quality, software, broadband plans and how your service provider designs its network).
Productivity is in fashion at Sample Room nbn s fast and reliable broadband network has helped this Melbourne-based pattern and sample maker take her services to a global fashion audience. A high-speed network means Julia can offer online consultations and even use Skype for customer fittings around the world. 1 To read more real stories of how the nbn network is transforming business visit nbn.com.au/business Skype fittings have helped my business go global, while I stay local Julia, Director, Sample Room Boost productivity locally and globally Enjoy smooth video calls with customers 1. Experiences vary depending on a range of factors, including your broadband speed choice, provider and equipment. nbn services are not yet available in all areas and top speed plans will not be available everywhere. Skype is a trade mark of Skype and nbn co ltd is not affiliated, sponsored, authorised or otherwise associated by/with the Skype group of companies.
4 Installation What s involved for your business Connecting to the nbn network may involve the installation of new equipment both outside and inside your business premises. Standard installation is currently free of charge, but ask your service provider if there are any other fees. nbn supplied equipment Outside your premises Inside your premises Existing pay TV or cable internet service This diagram shows a standard installation of nbn supplied equipment. The splitter will allow for both services to run from one wall outlet. ur installation technician will let you know if a splitter has been included in your installation.
5 Your questions answered When should I switch my business to the nbn network? We recommend you switch now. That way, you ll enjoy the benefits of the nbn network sooner, plus you ll avoid any last-minute rush to switch and the risk of disruption to your business landline phone and internet services. 1 How do I switch? Call a phone or internet provider. They ll help you choose the right plan over the nbn network for your business and arrange for the necessary equipment to be installed. Are there any costs involved in installation? A standard installation of nbn supplied equipment is currently free of charge. Remember to ask your preferred provider if they will charge any other fees. Wiring changes beyond the installation of the nbn connection box aren t included, but will be necessary if you want more than one wall outlet at your business premises to work over the nbn network. Can I run everything in my business on a wireless network? It is possible to run most services over a Wi-Fi network, but, if for any reason you find Wi-Fi limiting, there are other options. For instance, powerline networking adaptors can create a network by using your existing electrical wiring and are available from many retailers go online and search for powerline networking adapter. Will my affected business services stop working if I don t do anything? Yes. We recommend you switch your relevant services now to help minimise disruption to your business. 1 What if I'm on a current contract? If you're currently on a phone or internet contract, ask your service provider about switching to a plan using the nbn network. Have any further questions? Contact a phone or internet provider Or visit nbn.com.au/business 1.
