1 DATASHEET NON-ETHERNET MICS FOR MX SERIES Service Overview Juniper Networks universal edge solutions provide industry-leading intelligence, flexibility and efficiency, and they are uniquely suited to help enterprises and service providers meet the demands being placed on today s networks. Non-Ethernet MICs are becoming increasingly important with the expanding deployment of the Juniper Networks 3D Universal Edge Routers in multiservices environments. The MICs deliver the most widely used non- Ethernet interfaces including DS3, OC3, OC12, and OC48. They allow the to address multiple WAN scenarios, permitting service delivery with a single versatile platform. Product Description Juniper Networks 3D Universal Edge Routers are a portfolio of high-performance Ethernet routers that function as a universal edge platform capable of supporting all types of business, mobile and residential services. routers separate control and forwarding functions to provide maximum scale and intelligent service delivery capabilities. The need for non-ethernet interfaces has been fulfilled with the MX-FPC in the past. This, however, does not address the needs for the midrange products. Juniper Networks non-ethernet MICs deliver the most widely used non-ethernet interfaces including DS3, OC3, OC12, and OC48. The new non-ethernet MICs deliver these interfaces on all the routers. This allows the to address various multiservices scenarios, permitting service delivery with a single versatile platform. The non- Ethernet MICs extend the latest advancements in traffic management technology, allowing service providers and enterprises to meet their most demanding WAN needs. 2 Features and Benefits The following table lists the MPC that will support the non- Ethernet MICs. The clear-channel MICs are currently supported only on MPC1. The MICs are projected to be supported with MPC2 in Juniper Networks Junos operating system Release Finally, the channelized MICs are supported only on the queuing MPCs. 3 LED Support Tri-color LED will be available on a per-port basis, labeled as Status. Off port is not enabled. -- Green port is online with no alarms and failures. -- Amber port is online with alarms for remote failures. -- Red port is active with local alarms, and the router has detected a failure. LED indicates status of the physical port interface and not that of individual channels. BERT Support BERT is supported at DS0, DS1 and DS3 levels. Test patterns can be run in framed and unframed modes. Multiple BERT sessions can be supported concurrently up to 28 sessions. CLI can be used to determine which ports and channels are in test mode.
