1 Middleware for Ubiquitous Computing Software Testing for Mobile Computing National Institute of Informatics Ichiro Satoh Abstract When a portable computing device is moved into and attached to a new local network, the proper functioning of software running on the device often depends on the resources and services provided locally in the current network. The framework provides an application-level emulator of portable computing devices as a mobile, which can travel over networks. The emulator can carry its target software among networks on behalf of a device and it allows the software to connect to servers in its current network in the same way as if they were moved with and executed on the device itself.
2 Background Mobile devices enables software running on them to access local area networks in their current locations through wired or wireless networks. Local network A step 2. movement step 1. disconnection step 3. connection Local Pinter Local network B Local Database The proper functioning of such software is dependent on the current networks and locations. To construct a correct software, the developer must test the software in the networks that the device might be connected to. Wireless Network Area Wireless Network Area Wireless Network Area
3 Approach The physical mobility of devices is emulated by the logical mobility of their corresponding software-based emulators and target software. local servers Target Software local servers Target Software local area network C local area network C Mobile based emulator local servers local servers local area network B local servers movement local area network B local servers migration local area network A local area network A
