1 P333T, P334T, P332MF and P333T-PWR Version Release Notes Introduction This document contains information related to the Avaya P333T, P334T, P332MF and P333T-PWR stackable switches that was not included in the User's Guide. This document also describes known issues, and other information required for proper installation and use of the product. Note: Note: You must install version or later to work with versions of Communication Manager higher than 5.x. About this version Version fixes issues known in (see Problems fixed in version on page 1) Avaya recommends that you upgrade previous versions to version if you require the fixes or use firmware version 4.0. 2 P333T, P334T, P332MF and P333T-PWR Version Release Notes Problems fixed in version The MAC security trap interval now works as described in the User Guide. Duplicate IP traps are no longer sent on IP address When an authorized user tries to log in the device multiple times, the device no longer sends an intruder trap for each attempt. Problems fixed in version HTTP Trace/Track is disabled in the web server. Problems fixed in version SLD now works on port 51 on an expansion module after a reset. Link Up/Down traps are no longer occasionally sent when the backup Octaplane port is disconnected. IS-IS packets are now forwarded correctly, occasional loops no longer occur. The show cpu, show memory and memory show CLI commands are now accessible at the "super" user level. Problems fixed in Embedded Manager version The Embedded Manager now supports Java The LAG status is now displayed correctly in Embedded Manager when software redundancy is defined with LAG. The Embedded Manager supports three new modules with the G700: - MM714 - MM717 - MM722 The console no longer freezes on rare occasions. When you connect a non-powered device to a PoE port, the port status no longer flashes in the Embedded Manager display. 2 Release Notes Avaya P330

3 Important Notes Important Notes IP Multicast Filtering works only with Avaya P330 modules which have hardware C/S: Ver. 2.0 or later. To verify the Hardware compatibility of the module use the: show intelligent-multicast hardware-support command before issuing other IP Multicast Filtering commands. You must install Java runtime 1_4_2 to run Embedded Web Manager version 4.6. You can get the Java plug-in at Stacking with the C360, G700 and P330-ML Important:! Important: Do not use C360 firmware version 4.3 in a stack containing P333T-PWR or G700 devices. You can only create mixed stacks with devices with the following firmware versions: Device Minimum Firmware Version C G P333T-PWR P332G-ML P332GT-ML Only the following Expansion Modules are approved for the P333T-PWR and G700 when stacked with a C360: - X330-WAN - X330G2 - X330T16 Issue 4 Feb

4 P333T, P334T, P332MF and P333T-PWR Version Release Notes Updating firmware Upgrading from firmware versions above 2.4 You can upgrade directly to version Upgrading from firmware versions earlier than 2.4 When you upgrade the firmware from below version 2.4, you must upgrade in two steps: First upgrade to 2.4 and then upgrade to a higher version. If you try to upgrade directly from any version below 2.4 to Version 3.x or later, the upgrade fails. You get the following error message: file too big. Note: Note: Download both the new Avaya firmware and the new Embedded Web Manager versions. Whichever version of the firmware that you decide to run, always ensure that you match the correct firmware and Embedded Web Manager versions. If you want to benefit from the latest features, download firmware version to all P330 switches in the stack. Where to get the firmware You can download the firmware and Embedded Web Manager from the Software Download section at support.avaya.com. Downloading the firmware Use the command in the Avaya P330 CLI: copy tftp SW_image <image-file> EW_archive <filename> <ip> <mod_num> Parameter image-file filename ip mod_num Description Firmware image file name (full path) Embedded Web Manager image file name (full path) The IP address of the TFTP host Target module number See the CLI Chapters of the User s Guides for related information. 4 Release Notes Avaya P330

5 Stacking with the C360, G700 and P330-ML Self-Loop Discovery If you enable Spanning Tree and set it to Rapid Spanning Tree version, you do not need to use the self-loop discovery commands. Rapid Spanning Tree includes SLD functionality. RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol) 802.1w After you upgrade to firmware 4.1 or perform an NVRAM initialization, the Spanning Tree version remains common spanning tree. You can change the Spanning Tree version to RSTP using the set spantree version CLI command. When you change the Spanning Tree version, the port path cost is unchanged. Use the set port spantree cost auto CLI command to change the path cost according to the default of the standard. You must manually configure uplink and backbone ports (including LAG logical ports) to be non-edge ports, using the CLI command set port edge admin state. If you do not upgrade all switches in the stack from firmware version 3.12 or lower to firmware version 4.1, spanning tree continues normal operation. However, configuring Spanning Tree is not be possible until you upgrade all switches to version 4.1. PBNAC (Port-Based Network Access Control) 802.1x 802.1x Clients Windows XP and Windows 2000 clients do not resend an authentication request after an unsuccessful Windows login. You need disconnect and reconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer to the network to re-authenticate using the correct password. Configuring the RADIUS Server to Support PBNAC First configure the RADIUS server on your network to work with 802.1x before enabling this feature on the P330. Because of the complexity of configuring the RADIUS server, Avaya recommends that you view the appropriate Technical Notes on the Avaya Support site: Issue 4 Feb

6 P333T, P334T, P332MF and P333T-PWR Version Release Notes Enabling 802.1x When you enable 802.1x (using set dot1x system-auth-control command), all ports (including LAG ports) are set to blocking state. To force a port to remain in forwarding state (without authentication), set the port to force-authorize mode (using the set port dot1x port-control [module/port] force-authorize command) before enabling 802.1x. To force-authorize a LAG, set each one of the LAG member s ports to force-authorize. Configuration Download You must download the module configuration files before downloading a stack configuration file that enables 802.1x on the stack. The module configuration file must contain force-authorize command for the port from which you download the configuration file. MAC security on Gigabit Ethernet expansion ports The MAC security feature does not function on the X330 Gigabit Ethernet expansion modules. However, if you try to activate it, you receive no warning and the feature is reported as active. Known Issues Layer 2 Defining a LAG When Spanning Tree is disabled, creating a new LAG can result in the LAG being set to blocking state. This issue occurs when the first port to be added to the LAG has no link ( no link status). Workaround: First disable and then enable this LAG. Or, the LAG becomes forwarding following a module reset. 6 Release Notes Avaya P330

7 Known Issues Fast Ethernet Flow Control LEDs When you select flow control on the Fast Ethernet ports, some CRC errors can appear at high traffic loads. The packets themselves are transmitted correctly and the errors are because of the flow control mechanism cutting the packets. PPP Interface When flow control is implemented on a port with no link, the Tx LED blinks, although no data is transmitted. When a Gigabit Ethernet port (C/S lower than 2.0) is in auto-negotiation mode and the Link is Down, the LNK (Link) LED should blink. Instead, the LED is OFF. The PPP Interface status appears as Enabled in the CLI whether the interface is configured in Enable or Enable-Always mode. Avaya recommends that you connect the modem to the Master switch. The set ppp auth incoming chap CLI command requires a device reset. The device resets automatically and saves the updated configuration. Uploading Configuration Files Do not use the show tftp upload status CLI command. The upload process finished when the configuration file is created on the TFTP server. show l2-stack-config CLI command The show l2-stack-config CLI command does not work correctly immediately after a reset. To view the Layer 2 stack configuration, perform the following steps: 1. Run the show l2-module-config CLI command. 2. Run the show l2-stack-config CLI command. Issue 4 Feb

The command download which allows you to copy a S/W image to a module is replaced by the copy command which allows you to Download firmware to a Module and Download Embedded Web S/ W to a module. The FIV switch is obsolete. 3.2 Multiple (up to 1K) VLANs per port Leaky VLAN - allows sending of unicast traffic between two ports on different VLANs. Modem connection through PPP from any module. Detection of a transmit-receive loop on the same port that is caused by an IBM token ring cable. Port classification - capability to classify any port (as regular or valuable). Used to detect link failure on a disabled port. Capability to enable or disable spanning tree on a per-port basis. Bridge MIB groups - fully implemented dot1dbase and dot1dstp.
