7 Introduction to the vrealize Operations Management Pack for NSX for vsphere 1 The vrealize Operations Management Pack for NSX for vsphere extends the operational management capabilities of the vrealize Operations platform to the areas of virtual and physical data center networking. The vrealize Operations Management Pack for NSX for vsphere correlates information between the vcenter adapter in which NSX services are hosted and running, and the NSX manager adapter. The management pack merges networking-related concepts and logic in a single location and enables the following features: Visibility of all NSX networking services deployed in each vsphere cluster, including NSX manager, NSX controllers, and NSX data plane services such as logical switch, routers, firewalls, and so on. Several predefined widgets are used for representing NSX services. Visibility of vsphere hosts in NSX transport zones, in or across multiple vsphere clusters, for seeing the mobility and routing spans. Search and navigate to functions for obtaining the operations health of deployed NSX objects. Embedded dependency rules of logical and physical networking relationships for problem alerting and root-cause problem solving. This feature includes detection and alerting of NSX configuration, connectivity, and health problems. All alerts are consolidated in a vrealize Operations alert interface. Extension of the core vrealize Operations health and risk analytics engine for the inclusion of NSX object key performance and health indicators. Ability to draw end to end logical network topologies between any two selected virtual machines or NSX objects helps provide visibility into logical connectivity. Physical host and network device relationship in this view also helps in isolating problems in the logical or physical network. Advanced troubleshooting capabilities such as checking the connectivity between two Virtual Tunneling End Points by running a ping between two hosts. Report templates to generate reports for NSX for vsphere objects. Prepackaged with the vrealize Log Insight content pack to enable additional logging capabilities of NSX for vsphere objects and alerts. Prepacked with the Management Pack for Network Devices to enable discovery and monitoring of the physical switches in the NSX environment. VMware, Inc. 7

24 vrealize Operations Management Pack for NSX for vsphere Procedure 1 In the NSX-vSphere Troubleshooting dashboard, in the Objects widget, select a logical switch. 2 In the Data Collection Results widget, select Check for synchronization issues from the Choose Action drop-down menu, and click Run Action. A list of hosts attached to the logical switch showing if the runtime state for each host is not synchronized with the runtime state of the controller. 3 For each host that is not synchronized, select a logical switch. 4 In the Data Collection Results widget, select Check host configuration from the Choose Action drop-down menu, and click Run Action. 5 Select the host for which you want to compare the host's configured state against the host's runtime state. The configured VTEP, MAC, and ARP tables from the controller, and the current VTEP, MAC, and ARP tables from the selected host are displayed in the Data Collection Results widget. Troubleshoot VXLAN Tunnel End Point Connectivity You are experiencing connectivity issues between two hosts. Before you run this action, check the visual path between two hosts, two logical switches, or two Edges for connectivity issues. Problem Packets are being dropped when one virtual machine is communicating with another virtual machine. Cause There may be a configuration issue with one of the logical components connecting the virtual machines together. Solution 1 In the NSX-vSphere Troubleshooting dashboard, in the Objects widget, select a logical switch. 2 In the Data Collection Results widget, select Run VXLAN tunnel end point connectivity test from the Choose Action drop-down menu, and click Run Action. 3 Select a host, and click OK. It may take up to two minutes for the results to appear depending on the refresh period specified in the Data Collection Results widget. You can reduce the refresh period by clicking Edit Widget, and clicking the down arrow to reduce the value of the Refresh Interval option. 4 The test is run with a default packet of size of 1600 bytes. If you do not succeed to run the test, lower the packet size to 100 bytes, and run the test again. If the test succeeds, there is a configuration problem on one or more of the switches between the two specified hosts. 24 VMware, Inc.
