3 Preface This Quick Installation Guide provides instructions and reference material for getting started with. This guide will also show how to connect 4ipnet WHG101 to other network equipment. If the power supply and connection are normal, the Power LED will light up. 2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the WAN Port on the rear panel. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to an xdsl/cable modem, or a switch/hub on a LAN of a company/organization. The LED of this port should be on to indicate a proper connection. 3. Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN1/LAN2 Port on the rear panel. Per your needs, connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to an AP for extending wireless coverage, a switch for connecting more wired clients, or a PC. The LED of LAN1/LAN2 should be on to indicate a proper connection. Authentication is required for the clients to access the network via LAN1/LAN2 Port. The LAN port with authentication function is referred to as Public LAN. 4. Connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN3/LAN4 Port on the rear panel. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a PC for configuring the system. The LED of LAN3/LAN4 should be on to indicate a proper connection. Authentication is NOT required for the clients to access the network via the LAN3/LAN4 Port. The LAN port WITHOUT authentication function is referred to as Private LAN. Note: supports Auto Sensing MDI/MDIX. You may use either a straight-through or a cross-over Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port.

After completing the hardware installation, 4ipnet WHG101 can be configured through a PC by using web browsers such as Internet Explorer version 6.0 and above. 1. To access the web management interface, connect the PC to the Private Port (LAN3/LAN4) of. Make sure you have set DHCP in TCP/IP of your PC to get an IP address dynamically. 2. Then, launch the web browser on your PC by entering the IP address of for the Private Port at the address field, and then press Enter. Default IP address of 4ipnet

6 C o mmo n Settin g s < Configuration Wizard > 1. After successfully logging into 4ipnet WHG101, a web management interface with a welcome message will appear. 3. Then, click the Configuration Wizard icon on the left. 4. Click Run Wizard to begin the Configuration Wizard. Note: To logout, simply click the Logout icon on the upper right corner of the interface to return to the login screen. 2. To quickly configure by using the Configuration Wizard, click System Configuration from the top menu to go to the System Configuration screen. 5. The Configuration Wizard will appear in a pop-up browser window. 6. Click Next to begin.

7 Step 1. Change Admin s Password Enter a New Password for the admin account and retype it in the Verify Password field (maximum number of characters up to 20 and no spaces allowed). Click Next to continue. Step 3. Set System Information Home Page: Enter the URL that users should be initially directed to when successfully authenticated to the network. NTP Server: Enter the URL of the external time server for time synchronization or use the default setting. DNS Server: Enter the IP Address of a DNS Server provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Contact the ISP if the DNS IP Address is unknown. Click Next to continue. Step 2. Choose System s Time Zone Select a proper time zone from the drop-down list box. Click Next to continue.

8 Step 4. Select the Connection Type for WAN Port There are three types of WAN ports to select from: Static IP Address, Dynamic IP Address and PPPoE Client. Select a proper Internet connection type. Below depicts an example for Static IP Address. Click Next to continue. For Dynamic IP Address or PPPoE Client, follow the instructions showing on the screen. Step 5. Select Authentication Methods Please define a Postfix for this authentication method. The Postfix field (e.g. Postfix1) will be used as the postfix name (e.g. test@postfix1). One authentication method must be selected from the 5 options appearing in this window. Below depicts an example for Local User setting. Note: Local User is an authentication method that uses the built-in user account database of. Click Next to continue. Step 4 (Cont). Set Static IP Address Information Enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway provided by your ISP. Click Next to continue.

9 Step 5 (Cont). Add User A new user can be added to the Local User database. To add a user here, enter the Username (e.g. test), Password (e.g. test), MAC (optional) and assign a policy to this particular user (or use the default setting). More users can be added to this authentication method by clicking the ADD button. Click Next to continue. Step 7. Save and Restart Click Restart to save current settings and restart. The Setup Wizard is now complete. Step 6. Set Wireless Access Point Connection SSID: Enter a SSID (up to 32 characters) for the system. The default is 4ipnet. SSID (Service Set Identifier) is an unique identifier used for the wireless users devices to associate with. Transmission Mode: supports two transmission modes, b and (b+g). Select the appropriate transmission mode to work with the wireless clients in the network. Channel: If the default channel has been used by many other access points, it is necessary to select another channel from the drop-down list box for a better performance. Click Next to continue. While restarting, a Restarting now. Please wait for a moment. message will appear on the screen.

Now, the basic configuration is completed. If all the steps are done properly, has been connected to the managed network. < User Login > Before connecting a client device (e.g. laptop, PC) to s Public LAN (LAN1/LAN2 by default), if eliminating the need for client IP configuration is desired, the administrator can enable the IP PnP function to support both static and dynamic IP (Please refer to Sec Wireless Configuration, User s Manual). Otherwise, the client device must be set to use DHCP in TCP/IP to obtain an IP address automatically. To provide temporary users with free or paid wireless Internet access, the administrator can enable On-demand User authentication to create On-demand User accounts. Please refer to Authentication Method On-demand User, User s Manual. 3. Congratulation! The Login Successful page appearing means has been installed and configured successfully. Now, you are connected to the network and Internet! For the administrator to verify the correctness of the basic configuration: 1. Open an Internet browser on a client device and the default User Login Page will be displayed. 2. Enter a username and password previously created in the Local User account database (e.g. test@postfix1 for Username and test for Password) or from an On-demand User account. Check the Remember Me box to store the username and password on the current computer in order to automatically login to the system at next login. Then, click the Submit button.
