Section 1: Symptom Checking Page Power Moller does not run Speed Variation not achieved Reversing not achieved Error signal discharged frequently Section 2: Dip Switch Settings Dip switch settings SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Page 2 of 8
Power Moller does not run: 1) Check Power Moller: Check that the Power Moller is properly inserted into the frame. Check the tube and end caps are not contacting the frame, side rails or other parts. Power Moller should be allowed to move freely. Check that the Power Moller s shafts are properly mounted with the applicable bracket(s). Proper mounting is required for tube rotation. o For FE series motors one bracket securing the cable side shaft. o For FS / FP / FH series motors two brackets securing both cable side and spring loaded shafts. When slave driving idler rollers check that the number of idlers driven is adequate for the particular model of Power Moller being used. Check that the power cable is in good condition, with no twisting or severe kinks in the cable that would indicate broken wires. Also check for any cuts in the power cable or wires near the connector end. 2) Check LED status, see page 6 of the CBM-105FN manual: Red LED OFF, Green LED OFF: o Check that the power supply is on. o Check that the card is correctly wired, see page 3 of the manual. o Measure the voltage, stable 24V DC is required. Red LED ON, Green LED ON: o Check that the motor connector is properly plugged into the card then cycle the run signal. o Thermal protection active motor or card reached thermal limit, motor will not operate until one minute after the card or motor has cooled down below thermal limit. Consider possible causes of why the Power Moller is reaching thermal limit; cycle times, ambient temperature, load changes, roller not turning freely, ect. Do not remove power to the card to reset the error, damage may occur. Red LED OFF, Green LED ON: o Check that the run signal is properly wired in the correct position, see page 3 of the manual. o If the run signal is coming from a device on a separate power supply check that the 0V lines are connected between the device s power supply and the driver cards power supply. o Check that the run signal is the proper voltage and wired correctly, see page 3 of the manual. SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Page 3 of 8
Red LED blinking slow, Green LED ON: o Slow flashing, 1 Hz, indicates a motor lock condition, remove the source of the motor lock then cycle the run signal to reset the card. Red LED blinking fast, Green LED ON: o Fast flashing, 6 Hz, indicates a low voltage error where the motor will stop when the voltage falls below 15V DC. Note if the card is set to automatic recovery the motor will restart if the voltage reaches normal levels and the run signal is still present. See page 10 of the manual, installation precautions. Red LED blinking fast, then OFF, then blinking again, Green LED ON: o Fast flashing 6 Hz then OFF for 1 second then fast flashing 6 Hz indicates a back EMF error, see Back EMF Error description on page 6 of the manual. If the card is set to automatic recovery the motor will restart when the voltage reaches normal levels and if the run signal is still present. Consider how the back EMF is being generated and how to prevent this from happening. This condition is normally caused from high speed product that pushes the Power Moller at a faster speed then the motor is built for. This may happen on a decline or a transition between two conveyors of different speeds. Red LED blinking fast, Green LED OFF o Green LED OFF and Red LED flashing 6 Hz indicates that the fuse has blown and other components on the circuit board are damaged. The driver card must be replaced. Consider what may have caused this failure to prevent future fuse failure. Before a replacement card is connected, check all wiring to the card and the Power Moller wiring for damage that would cause a short. Other causes may have been caused by severe back EMF or high voltage / noise / static on the power line. SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Page 4 of 8
Speed Variation not achieved or slower than expected: 1) Check Power Moller Model: Check the speed code in the Power Moller s model number located on the end cap label on the wire side of the roller. Example: PM486FE-60- the underlined value 60 is the speed code of the motor. Review Itoh Denki s catalog for the correct speed. Additional load, slave driven idlers, belts ect. may affect the top speed the roller can achieve. 2) Check the CBM-105FN s dip switch 1-2 setting Check the dip switch 1-2 is properly set for your speed adjustment, ON for external speed (0-10V DC), OFF for internal speed (rotary switch control), see page 5 of the manual. o If the card is set for external speed control and there is no voltage input to CN2 then the Power Moller will run at its slowest speed. 3) When using external speed control check: The 0V line on the external voltage device is common with the 0V line connected to driver cards CN1-2, if not the roller will remain at slow speed. Check that the 24V DC power to the card is stable. Check that the input voltage is between 0-10V DC. Check the wiring to CN2-3 that it is correctly wired, see page 3 of the manual. Reversing not achieved: 1) When using external reversing signal check: Check that the 0V DC of the signal being used is common to the 0V DC line on the cards CN1-2. Check that the wiring is properly connected in the correct terminal, see page 3 of the manual. 2) When using internal dip switch 1-3 check: The run signal must be cycled after a dip switch setting change for the card to reverse the direction of the Power Moller. If reverse direction is needed while the run signal remains active the external direction signal method must be used. SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Page 5 of 8
Error condition / signal discharged frequently: 1) Check power requirements: If the Red LED is illuminated or blinking an error has occurred, see page 6 of the manual for error indications. Check the wire gauge from the power supply is sufficiently large enough for the power requirements and distance to the driver card so there isn t a significant voltage drop causing a low voltage error. Check that the power supply is large enough with sufficient amperage for the application, see page 4 of the manual. 2) Check environmental conditions: Thermal limit Check that the Power Moller and CBM-105FN are used in an ambient temperature range is between 32ºF to 104ºF. Make sure the back plate of the CBM-105FN is against a metal surface to maximize heat dissipation. Check that the Power Moller is not contacting the frame and nothing is caught between the roller, frame and components that would increase friction making the roller work harder than it needs to. Check that there is nothing caught in the drive bands or belts that would increase friction. 3) Check the Power Moller: Check that the power cable is in good condition, with no twisting or severe kinks in the cable that would indicate broken wires. Also check for any cuts in the power cable or wires near the connector end. Check that the motor connector is properly plugged into the card then cycle the run signal. Check the mounting of the roller is square to the frame so there is no side pressure exerted between the opposing shafts. SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Page 6 of 8
7 3 Dip Switch Settings Factory Default Settings CN2 CN3 CBM-105 ON DIP CN1 VR1 ACC VR2 DEC ACC DEC LED1 LED2 SW2 SW1 See page 5 of the manual for more details on the dip switch settings Switch No. Description Default Setting SW1-1 AUTO / MANU ON SW1-2 INT / EXT OFF SW1-3 DIRECTION OFF SW1-4 E / N OUT OFF SW1-5 SV BRK OFF SW1-6 N / P OUT ON SW2 Speed Control 9 (highest speed) 1) AUTO / MANU This controls the error recovery, the card will either automatically recover from certain errors or in manual mode any error will need the run signal cycled to reset the card. Do not remove 24V DC power from card during an error condition, instead find the source of the error and correct the condition. Errors that will reset automatically are low voltage, back EMF and thermal limit which will reset one minute after operating temperature has been reached. Motor lock and motor unplugged will need the run signal cycled to remove the error. See page 6 of the manual for more details on error conditions. 2) INT / EXT This determines where the card receives its speed setting value, either internally on the card with the rotary switch or externally from a 0-10V DC voltage input to the V-IN on CN2-3. SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Page 7 of 8
