3 Overview This help file contains a functional description of the InOut DA Console software that can be used to control the Inout Digital Amplifiers. These units are equipped with a RS485 serial interface for external communication purposes. InOut DA Console is a multiple platform compatible program, written in Java, enables to control and configure Inout Digital Amplifiers through a TCP/IP network connection between a PC and a Serial Server device, that is needed to connect the LAN network with the RS485 serial bus. The current version of software allows you to: Establish and manage multiple TCP/IP connections over the network with several Serial Servers (multiple RS485 bus). Discover all the devices connected to the established connections (max 31 for a single bus). Control and configure single device o View all the device status parameters and info: Device id. 4 Setup Requirements To get started with the InOut DA Console the following items are needed: PC or MAC: The software is a multi platform program (Windows, Linux, Mac OSx). Your pc or mac must have a network interface and your system has to be correctly configured to be connected on a LAN/WAN network. Software: The software requires that you have installed the Java Runtime Environment version 1.5 or greater on your system (Windows, Linux, Mac OSx). Refer to the Sun JRE 1.5 system requirements to be sure that you can install the program on your system. Serial Server Device: To connect your PC to the RS485 bus you need to connect to a Serial Server Device on the LAN/WAN network. For the ethernet/serial devices connect the ethernet cable from the device to a network switch or hub, or directly to the PC using a cross ethernet cable. Configure the Serial Server assigning an IP and a port conforming to your network settings and configure the serial port output settings (9600 baud, 1 start bit, 8 bit, 1 stop bit, parity bit N). Finally you have to connect the RS485 cable to the serial output depending on the Serial Server model and connect all the digital amplifiers to the bus. IMPORTANT: The RS485 termination has to be configured inside the serial server. Refer to the serial server manual. We recommend you to use the following Serial Servers that has been successfully tested: Digi one TM SP (Digi) PortServer TS MEI (Digi) IMPORTANT: The serial server has to be configured to accept only one connection. The software can't work as multiclient for the same connection. RS485 connection cable: The cable should be a type suitable for data transfer with two individually shielded twisted pairs. Refer to the device manual for RS485 cables configuration settings. Inout Digital Amplifiers: At least one Device has to be connected to the RS485 bus. All the devices added to the bus must be configured with a unique ID address to be identified on the network and it must be greater than 0 and shorter than 32. The ID address "0" is used to send broadcast commands. Refer to the device manual for the id address configuration settings. IMPORTANT: The RS485 termination has to be configured inside the amplifier. Refer to the device manual for RS485 termination settings. 4

5 Installation Instructions Before installing the software be sure to have the Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.5 or greater installed on your system (Windows,Linux,Mac OSx). Windows To install the software in a Windows system download the self extracting executable package and run it. Follow the wizard instruction and wait until the installation has finished. Finally go to Start>Programs>InOut DA Console>InOut DA Console to run the software. Linux To install the software in a Linux download the self extracting executable package and run it from a linux desktop environments (Gnome, KDE). Follow the wizard instruction and wait until the installation has finished. Finally run InOut DA Console from the shortcut icon on your desktop shortcut. Mac OS X vers or greater To install the software on Mac Osx download the installation package and run it. Follow the wizard instruction and wait until the installation has finished. Open the Applications folder, find the InoutDAConsole.app and open it by double clicking. 5

7 Connections Settings A connection represents the RS485 bus and all the devices connected to the bus. It's a TCP/IP connection between a PC, or Mac, and a Serial Server that converts the signal into the RS485 signal. In order to be connected to the Serial Server, the software needs to be configured with the same IP and Port configured on the Serial Server to communicate with the RS485. IMPORTANT: The software can work only as single client so you have to configure the serial server to accept only one connection on the same IP address and port. Open a connection To establish a connection, after the program has started, select "New", insert a description for the connection, fill the Host IP and the port number fields with the same values configured on the Serial Server, set the number of devices to find (31 by default) and then click "Connect" button to open the connection and retrieve the devices or "Cancel" if you don't want to open the connection. Save a connection To save the selected connection data click the "Save" button. The "Save" button becomes enabled after any connection value change. Select a saved connection To select a saved connection click on " Description" combo-box and select a saved connection. To change the description of the selected connection click the "..." button and modify the description on the popup window. Delete a connection To delete the current selected connection click on the "Delete" button. All the saved connection configurations are restored after any program start. Connection to the Serial Server After clicking the "connect" button the software tries to connect itself to the Serial Server. If the host is reachable a connection icon appears in the tree view as a new node, otherwise the software inform you that the host was not found with a warning message. 7

8 Modify connection parameters After a connection has established you can modify its parameters by clicking on the "Modify" button in the "Connection Toolbar" as well on "Connections>Modify" item in the main menu. Close a Connection If you want to close the current selected connection click on the "Close" button. Reconnect a Connection If the connection falls down, a greyout icon appears in the connection tree node. In this case, after the problem has solved, you can reconnect the bus clicking on the "reconnect" item in the context right-click menu of the connection tree node. 8

9 Devices Select a device The devices found for a single connection are shown both in the tree view and in the list view. You can select one of them by clicking on it. You can view some information about the device status by the tooltip shown on the icon rollover. In the list view you can also view some devices status icon indicating if the device is in mute mode, if a fault is occurring or if an overtemperature occurs. If a device is no more reachable from the software, its icon switches to greyout and a red alert icon appears. You can view the device context popup menu by clicking the right button the device icon. 9

10 Find connected devices After establishing a connection, the software tries to discover all the devices connected to the bus. All the found devices are listed in the tree and list view. It is possible to find other new devices connected by clicking the "Find Devices" button in the main toolbar or in the Connections>Find Devices in the main menu item anytime. 10

11 DA 480-R The INOUT DA480-R digital amplifier is equipped with a RS485 serial interface that allows to connect up to 31 units to external control systems for status monitoring and volume control of each channel. After you have correctly connected one or several devices to the RS485 net and the software has established the connection the bus will be scanned by sending a slave present request command from Id address 1 to 31 to retrieve all the devices connected. The found devices are shown in the tree connection node and in the list view by the device icon representing the real Da480-R. Selecting one of them you can view 4 tabs (Overview, Volumes, Diagnostic, Control) in the tabs panel that allow you to control and monitor all the functionalities currently implemented by the firmware (Vers ). To switch over the tabs you can select the proper tab form the tabs panel, select the button command in the "Devices" toolbar or in the main menu "View" or by selecting the proper item in the context right-click menu of the device icon. 11

12 Overview The "Overview" tab allows you to view the general information of the Da 480-R, monitor the main status data in real time and set the device name label. Info field set The "Info" fieldset contains the following data: Device id Device type Device name Firmware version Service Serial Number Factory Serial Number Status fieldset The status fieldset allows you to monitor all the device status data: Channel states (Signal Present, Overload-peak, Faults) are indicated simulating the real device LEDS (refer to the legend near behind the device icon) and by a channel table with the description of the current state. 13 Volumes The "Volumes" tab allows you to adjust the remote volume levels for the 4 DA 480-R channels, switch the volume control from VCA to remote and vice versa, view the remote or VCA volume adjustment settings, mute/un mute single or all channels, monitor channels states LEDS, group the volume adjustment slider by ganging channels 1-2, 3-4 or all together, setting the channels labels. Remote volume control By default the DA 480-R is configured to work with all 4 channels in VCA control mode, so, to take the control of all or one of them by the software, you have to switch the channel by un-checking the VCA checkbox. In that way the slider control becomes enabled and you can drag it up and down to increase or reduce the volume level. The level of the remote channel control after the VCA has been disabled are always the last VCA value. VCA volume control To switch a channel from remote to VCA control mode mark the relative checkbox in the VCA fiedset. Ganging the channels You can gang the volume sliders matching channels 1-2, channels 3-4 or joining all the channels together by marking the gang checkboxes Mute/Unmute To mute/unmute a single channel switch on/off the toggle button below the channel slider. To mute/unmute all the channel together click on the Mute/Unmute buttons in the "All channels" fieldset. To mute/unmute all the channels for all the connected devices, select the Mute All Devices /Unmute All Devices item on the Connection context right-click menu. Channels Labeling To map the amplifier channels insert the proper label and then click on the "Update Labels" button. Channels LEDS The channels LEDS indicate the state of the signal as the real device LEDS or as the LEDS in the overview tab.. 13

14 Diagnostic The "Diagnostic" tab allows you to monitor the device internal temperature level and the fan speed. These values are graphically represented by two gauges. The temperature gauge indicates the temperature level in a graduate scale from 20 C to 80 C. The 70 C temperature value indicates the threshold value over which the device is in over-temperature state. If the device goes in over-temperature state the gauge indicator becomes red and the over-temperature icon appears near the gauge. The "Fan speed" gauge represents the four speeds of the device fan (0, minimum, medium, maximum). 14

15 Controls The "Controls" tab allows you to change the loudspeakers relays connection setting or view the logic output setting. To connect or disconnect the loudspeakers click on "Relays connection setting" button to open the popup window that give the possibility to connect or disconnect the 1/2 or 3/4 channels. In this screen tab it is possible to view the state of the logic output TTL and logic relay for the channel 1/2 and 3/4 15

16 DA 250-P The INOUT DA250-P digital amplifier is equipped with a RS485 serial interface that allows to connect up to 31 units to external control systems for status monitoring and volume control of each channel. After you have correctly connected one or several devices to the RS485 net and the software has established the connection the bus will be scanned by sending a slave present request command from Id address 1 to 31 to retrieve all the devices connected. Selecting one of them you can view 3 tabs (Overview, Volumes, Diagnostic) in the tabs panel that allow you to control and monitor all the functionalities currently implemented by the firmware (Vers. 2.04) To switch over the tabs you can select the proper tab form the tabs panel, select the button command in the "Devices" toolbar or in the main menu "View>" or by selecting the proper item in the context right-click menu of the device icon. 16

17 Overview The "Overview" tab allows you to view the general information of the Da 250-P, to monitor the main status data in real time, to set the device name label and to turn on/off the stand by mode. 18 Volumes The "Volumes" tab allows you to adjust the remote volume levels for the 2 Da 250-P In channels or for the switchable 2 Aux channels, to switch between the volume control from VCA to remote In and vice versa, to view the remote or VCA volume adjustment settings, to mute/un mute single or all channels, to monitor channels states LEDS, to group the volume adjustment slider by ganging channels 1-2 of remote In or Aux, setting the channels labels. Remote In/Aux volume control By default the Da 250-P is configured to work with 2 channels in VCA control mode, so, to take the control of all or one of them by the software, you have to switch the channel by un-checking the VCA checkbox.. In that way the slider control becomes enabled and you can drag it up and down to increase or reduce the volume level. The level of the remote channel control after the VCA has been disabled are always the last VCA value. To switch from Remote In to the Aux mode click the proper toggle button. VCA volume control To switch a channel from remote In to VCA control mode mark the relative checkbox in the VCA fiedset. Ganging the channels You can gang the volume sliders matching channels 1-2 of Remote In or Aux by marking the gang checkboxes In that way increasing the volume of one of single channel you increase also the other ganged. Mute/Unmute To mute/unmute a single channel switch on/off the toggle button below the channel slider. To mute/unmute all the channel together click on the Mute/Unmute buttons in the "All channels" fieldset. To mute/unmute all the channels for all the connected devices, select the Mute All Devices /Unmute All Devices item on the Connection context right-click menu. Hardware Mute Enable/Disable The toggle button make the device mutable via hardware. Channels Labeling To map the amplifier channels insert the proper label and then click on the "Update Labels" button. Channels LEDS The channels LEDS indicate the state of the signal as the real device LEDS or as the LEDS in the overview tab. 18
