This Service Letter is issued to give information regarding DECT handsets who is available for use in the vessel s Alcatel PABX, if replacement handset or additionally handset is needed. PABX = Private Automatic Branch exchange = telephone system DECT = Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications = wireless telephone communication Your vessel is equipped with an Ulstein COM Alcatel PABX, and the DECT system is integrated in the Alcatel PABX. The PABX covers the entire vessel. Class requires operational telephones located at Bridge, ECR, Chief, Captain, Engine and Propulsion room. See next pages for more information. 3 INFORMATION LICENSE: All handsets need license in the PABX. For replacement handset the old license is used. For new handsets, additional license is required. CHARGER: Be aware: For Alcatel DECT, charger and power unit have to be ordered separately. For Siemens, the charger is included in the handset delivery HEADSET: Some users use headset in noisy areas. For old DECT phones the headset is connected by a 2,5 mm jack plug. Siemens Gigaset E630H is equipped with 2,5 mm socket and can be used with 2,5 mm headset. All the new Alcatel DECT sets is equipped with 3,5 mm socket, so the old headsets can not be used. There is no known solution to connect 2,5 mm headset to 3,5 mm socket. The headset cable in the Headset list in this document have pluggable cable. Standard 3,5 mm jack cable can be replaced with a 2,5 mm jack cable. PABX software: For newer PABX software, all the PABX feature is available for Alcatel DECT sets. For older PABX software, some of the Alcatel PABX feature is not available.. Non Alcatel DECT handset: For DECT handsets from other manufacturers than Alcatel, the Alcatel PABX feature is not available.
