1 OVERVIEW: The SP Starter shield provides a complete learning platform for beginners and newbies. The board is equipped with loads of sensors and components like relays, user button, LED, IR Remote and receiver, L293D dual motor driver, 16x2 LCD and LDR that is vital for robotics and embedded system designing. It facilitates the learning of Microcontroller, arduino platform, I/O port usage, analog and digital sensors, relay switches, IR remote communications, DC motor speed control, stepper motor, servo motors, LCD, Serial communication and many other components and programming technique. 3 PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION Power pins for powering both the shield and the Arduino board. Take a look at the 1 pin configurations for further details. 2 Power indicator LED 3 Reset switch (the reset on your controller board and the shield s reset are the same) Power Select ( or External Battery) Take a look at the jumper settings for further 4 details. 5 On-board 5V, 1.5Amps voltage regulator Pins for connecting motor 2 (It can be controlled by accessing digital pins 10 and 11 6 of microcontroller. Has speed control ability using PWM signals.) Pins for connecting motor 1 (It can be controlled by accessing digital pins 5 and 6 of 7 microcontroller. Has speed control ability using PWM signals.) 8 On-board dual motor driver IC (L293D) 9 Momentary/Reset switch connected to Analog Pin A4 3 Port for connecting analog sensors S1, S2 and S3 such as temperature sensor, IR, Sharp IR and other sensors compatible with this pin configuration. You can access 10 the data using the analog pins A0, A1 and A2. (Make sure you connect it with the correct polarity as mentioned on the board). 4 For Digital and Analog sensor ports (Top-view): JUMPER SETTINGS: For Starter Shield Power Selection: Why do you need these jumper settings? Applications may require you to power both your Arduino Development board as well as the Starter shield from your port itself. The Starter shield has the capability to power itself from the Source (if the jumpers are set appropriately). However, you can power both the Arduino Development board as well as the Starter Shield by giving an external power source to PART NUMBER 1 and setting the jumpers accordingly.
