Data is transmitted from one port the other port with minimum delay or buffering. The port implements "uto MDI/MDIX" i.e. it may be connected with either a straightthough or crossover cable to an appropriate device such as external switch, PC or other DCE/DTE. Two LED indicators are provided adjacent to the RJ45 port: Green indicates Link / Data transfer and Yellow indicates no Ethernet connection. 8 Data and larm Channel Configuration The MG transmit unit sends and receives data to/from an MG or rackmount equivalent MG G receive unit. The 2 physical data interfaces RS485, RS422 or RS232 are individually selectable by the user with the slide switch mounted from the rear panel. There are also 8 bidirectional alarm inputs provided, each alarm input is typically connected to a contact closure switch. Each alarm output can receive an on/off signal from an MG and is typically used to convey contact closure status. Data Channel Configuration Each low speed data channel provides an RS232, RS422 (full duplex, four wire) or RS485 (half duplex, two wire) interface defined by the corresponding mode switch inside the enclosure. Every data channel as shipped from the factory is set up for RS485 operation unless otherwise requested. The data input for both the RS485 and the RS422 modes detects a tristate input condition by monitoring the differential voltage level across the input. differential level below 600mV positive or negative will be detected as a tristate condition. level above 600mV positive or negative will be detected as a logic 1 or logic 0 respectively. It is important therefore to terminate the RS485 bus or the RS422 input bus using 120Ω if a prebias is present on the RS485 or RS422 bus. large number of third party equipment manufacturers apply a prebias on their RS485 bus. This prebias is applied by pulling one arm of the RS485 bus high (+5 volts) and the other arm low (0 volts) using high value resistors within the third party equipment. In order to ensure that the MG equipment detects a tristate condition, then these resistors should have a value above 5kΩ. If the third party bias resistors are less the 750Ω the bus can be multiple terminated as required to ensure that a tristate level is detected. The system detects a tristate input condition on the data channel bus when in RS485 or RS422 mode. Data Interface Connections Data Channel Connector Pin No. 1 RS485 [switch bottom] IN/OUT (B) RS422 [switch middle] OUT (B) 2 IN/OUT + () OUT + () 3 4 IN (B) 5 IN + () RS232 [switch top] OUT IN Note: () or (B) in brackets in the above table refers to RS485 / RS422 data specification. Data Channel Termination The interface mode RS232, RS422 or RS485 of each data port Data 14, is selected with the corresponding external slide switch D1D4. The actual number of data channels provided on the unit depends upon the MG model. Internal 120Ω termination resistors across IN+ and IN inputs may also be applied when in RS422 or RS485 mode using internal DIP switches P0P3 on the main PCB inside the enclosure. P0P3 may MG Systems Ltd. reserves the right to make changes to this be accurate. No responsibility is assumed by MG for its use. Page 8 of 12 MG Instruction Sheet D doc
9 be accessed by removing the 2 fixing screws in the rear panel and sliding the PCB out of the enclosure. For clarity, in the 3 examples shown below all 4 data ports D1D4 are terminated the same, but each data channel may be configured & terminated independently as required. The 3 examples shown are RS232 (no termination), RS422 (120Ω) or RS485 (120Ω). larm Channel Configuration The MG provides 8 bidirectional contact closure inputs / alarm outputs. Each LRM IN input is via an internal 10kΩ series resistor with a 47kΩ pullup resistor to the internal +3V3 supply. Each LRM OUT output can receive an on/off signal from an MG and is typically used to convey contact closure status. Each alarm output is an NPN open collector circuit with a maximum rated continuous load of 500m / 24Vdc. larm Channel Circuit The output of each alarm channel is an NPN open collector transistor circuit, with an absolute maximum rating of 1 / 60V. There is a common for all alarm channels. MG Systems Ltd. reserves the right to make changes to this be accurate. No responsibility is assumed by MG for its use. Page 9 of 12 MG Instruction Sheet D doc
10 The alarm output circuit is designed for low dc voltage / low current operation and has minimal internal protection. If an alarm output is used to drive an external relay circuit, the external crcuit MUST include a protection (flyback) diode connected across the relay to prevent the high voltage generated from a back EMF causing damage due to the MG output transistor. larm Interface Connections larm Interfaces Connector Pin No. 1 larm IN 14, 58 LRM 1/5 IN larm OUT 14, 58 LRM 1/5 OUT 2 LRM 2/6 IN LRM 2/6 OUT 3 4 LRM 3/7 IN LRM 3/7 OUT 5 LRM 4/8 IN LRM 4/8 OUT udio Channel Connections The MG G provides six bidirectional audio channels. Each audio channel input is a balanced pair and the impedance can be configured as 56kΩ or 600Ω. The input impedance of each audio channel is individually selected using the DIL switch on the front panel. If an audio input is single ended or ground referenced input rather than a differential (balanced) input pair, the udio IN signal should be connected to one of the pins available on the 37way Dtype connector. These inputs are common to all audio channels. Echelon FTT10 Data Channel Configuration The MG provides 2 Echelon FTT10 Data channels. The connection associated with any Data signal signal should be connected to one of the pins available on the 37way Dtype connector. These inputs are common to all audio / data channels.
