1 SoundWave Pro PCI Quick Installation Guide Introducing the SoundWave Pro PCI The SoundWave Pro PCI uses bus mastering technology to take full advantage of the PCI bus architecture, while maintaining compatibility with older legacy gaming and education software. The same advanced chip design technology is implemented on professional-level synthesizers, samplers and processors. Each sound in the wavetable is derived from real instrument sounds, created with wavetable synthesis and held to a professional performance standard for the extensive sound library. It can be used with standard MIDI adapter or joystick. Audio Out A stereo line output jack through which the combined signal of all internal/external audio sources on the card is output. It can be connected to stereo headphones or to self-powered speakers with a 1/8-inch TRS plug. Line In A stereo input jack which accepts a 1/8-inch TRS stereo plug. It can be used as a source for digital sound recording. Mic In A 1/8-inch jack which provides a mono input. It can be used as a source for digital sound recording, a source to be mixed with the overall output signal, or both. Audio-In Stereo connector which can be used to attach a CD-ROM audio cable. Note Select one of the two Audio In connectors to match with the type of audio cable which comes with your CD-ROM drive 2

3 Hardware Installation General instructions for installing the card are provided below, since the design of computer cases and motherboards vary. Refer to your computer s reference manual for further information, if needed. Caution: Static Electricity Discharge may permanently damage your system. To avoid possible static electricity discharge during the installation, please follow the guidelines below: Discharge any static electricity build up in your body by touching a large grounded metal surface or the computer s case (if plugged in), for a few seconds. During the installation, avoid any contact with internal parts. Handle cards only by their external edges. 1. Turn OFF the power to your computer and any other connected peripheral devices. 2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the computer. 3. Remove your computer s cover. 4. Remove the slot bracket from an available PCI slot. 5. To install the card, carefully align the card's bus connector with the selected PCI slot on the motherboard. Push the board down firmly, but gently, until it is well seated. 6. Replace the slot bracket's holding screw to secure the card. 7. Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord. Software Installation This section will guide you through the installation of the following software drivers. Make sure you have installed the board before installing the software. Windows 95 Windows 98/98 SE Windows ME Windows NT 4.0 Windows

4 Throughout driver installation, you may be prompted to insert Windows Installation CD. Some files on this CD are neccessary to complete driver installation. Please insert CD when prompted and follow on-screen instructions. Windows 95 Driver Installation 1. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next. 2. Insert Driver Installation CD. Click Quit if autorun starts. 3. Click Other Locations to locate the drivers. 4. From the Select Other Location dialog box, type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\Win95, then click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 5. Click Finish when Windows finds ALS4000 PCI Audio Device. 6. From the Insert Disk dialog box, click OK. 7. Type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\Win95 and click OK to continue. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 8. If prompted for Windows95 Installation CD, click OK. Insert Windows95 Installation CD and follow on-screen instructions. Windows 98/98 SE Driver Installation 1. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next. 2. Insert Driver Installation CD. Click Quit if autorun starts. 3. Select Search for the best driver for your device (recommended), then click Next. 4. Check Specify a location, type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\Win98, click Next, then Next again. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 5. In the next dialog box, type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\Win98, then click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 6. Click Finish. 7. At the Insert Disk window, click OK. 8. Repeat step 6 and restart Windows to complete driver installation. 4

5 Windows ME Driver Installation 1. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, choose Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), then click Next. 2. Insert Driver Installation CD. Click Quit if autorun starts. 3. Choose Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), and click Next. 4. Check Specify a location, type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\Winme, then click Next. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 5. Plug-n-play detectsals4000 Audio Device. In the New Hardware Found dialog box, type D:\Driver\Sc4000\Winme, then click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 6. Restart Windows to complete the installation. Windows NT 4.0 Driver Installation 1. Start Windows NT. 2. Double click My Computer and Control Panel. 3. Double click Multimedia, click Devices tab, then click Add. 4. Choose Unlisted or Updated Driver and click OK. Insert Driver Installation CD. Click Quit if autorun starts. 5. In the Install Driver dialog box, type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\winnt, and click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 6. Select Avance Logic, Inc. ALS4000, then click OK. 7. If the Driver exists dialog box appears, click New. 8. Click OK and restart Windows NT to complete driver installation. 5

6 Windows 2000 Driver Installation 1. At the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Next. 2. Choose Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), then click Next. 3. Check Specify a location, then click Next. Insert Driver Installation CD. Click Quit if autorun starts. 4. Type D:\Driver\Sc4000\win2000, then click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 5. Click Next, then Finish. If the Digital Signature box displays, click Yes to continue the installation. 6. Click OK at new dialog box, type in D:\Driver\Sc4000\win2000, then click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 7. If the Digital Signature box displays click Yes to continue installation. 8. Repeat Step Restart Windows to initialize driver. Installing ALSRACK in Windows 95/98/98 SE/ME ALSRACK utility works with Windows 95/98/98 SE/ME. This utility isn't made to work in Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 environments. Please use the default players that come with Windows NT 4.0 and Click Start and Run. From the command line, type in "D:\App\ALS Rack\Setup.exe" (with quotation marks), and click OK. (Assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter) 2. Choose English and click Next. 3. Click Next, choose Install Applications only. 4. Follow on-screen instructions to complete installation. 6

Step 2: Complete the RMA form Fill out your Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) form, and include it in the package with the product. Properly pack the product for shipping. All software, cable(s) and other accessories that came with the original package must be included. Clearly write your RMA number on the top of the returned package and on the accompanying RMA form. SIIG will refuse to accept any shipping package, and will not be responsible for a product returned without an RMA number posted on the outside of the shipping carton.
