1 VersaMax IP Expansion Module has four analog differential inputs that can be configured as current or voltage inputs. It connects to a local bus that is interfaced to a Profibus-DP / PROFINET network by a Profibus Interface Unit (IC677PBI001) / PROFINET Interface Unit (IC677PNS001). The analog inputs are read synchronously to the bus cycle. 4 Connection Guidelines The threaded sockets of the local bus (LB) and input connectors are assigned to the FE potential. They discharge electromagnetic interferences by conducting them to the FE connections. Meet Noise Immunity Requirements. Connect FE using a mounting screw, or (when mounting the module on a non-conductive surface), using a cable connection to the FE connection point. Ensure IP67 Protection. Cover the unused sockets with protective caps (IC676ACC002 and ACC003). Avoid Polarity Reversal of the supply voltages U L and U S. 5 Typical Connection of Analog Current and Voltage Sensors Passive pressure sensor configured as a current input Passive 2-wire transmitter configured as a current input The jumper can be located in the connector. For 4-wire inputs, the jumper can be located in the sensor. Passive voltage divider configured as voltage input Make sure the voltages U DIFF and U CM do not exceed the specified range. Active 3-wire transmitter configured as voltage input The jumper can also be set at the sensor, by conducting the signal from pin 4 to the sensor. 5

6 Module Data and Configuration The module can be configured using its process data, or via PCP communications. If the module is configured using PCP, it can no longer be configured using the process data. Data formats are shown in this section. A basic diagram of the module s output and input data words is shown below: The first output word (received from the host) is the control word. The meaning of the following output words depends on the value contained in the first output word. As confirmation of a control word action, the module returns a partial copy of the control word in the first input word (sent to the host). For device configuration, each output word can contain configuration data for a specific output channel. After the configuration is finished, depending on the format, the measured values for each channel are returned in the corresponding input data words sent by the module to the host. 6

7 Output Data Format The first Output Word received from the host should have the following format: The value in byte 0 is the command being sent to the module: Bit 15 to Bit 8 Hexadecimal Value of Output Word 1 Commanded Function hex Read Analog Word [ ch ] 1x00 hex Read Configuration of [ ch(annel) ]: 0 0 = channel = channel = channel = channel C00 hex Read Device firmware version and ID number from the input data word hex Configure the Module using the data in Output Words 2-5. If the Control Word is set to 4000 hex or 5000 hex as explained above, the host must set Output Words 2 5 with the configuration parameters for each input channel, using this format: 7

9 Data Words The module returns five words of input data to the host. The first input word has the following format: If Bit 15, the Error bit, is set to 1, an error has occurred. Additional bits in the input word identify the error type and the channel where the error occurred. In the case of a power supply error (bit 3 = 0), all of the channel bits are set. Error Bits in Word 1 Error Type Meaning 7 Faulty analog supply The module s internal analog voltage +/-5V and +/-15V supplies are out of range. 6 Faulty sensor supply The module s internal sensor supply U ANA is missing. Short circuit or overload. 5 Faulty configuration Configuration executed incorrectly. 4 Faulty sensor Sensor out of range or open circuit. Bits 0 to 3 indicate the faulty channel. If bits 14 to 8 in Word 1 contain a mirror of the command code (see previous page), bit 15, the Error bit, is suppressed. The contents of Words 2 to 5 depend on the command that has been received from the host in the Output Word. If Output Word 1 contains the value 1x00 hex, the configuration of the selected channel is indicated in the Word. If Output Word 1 contains the value 4000 hex, (Configure Module), the Words mirror the configuration data. If Output Word 1 contains the value 3C00 hex (Read Firmware Version and Device ID), those values are returned in Words 2 to 5. For example: 9

10 When Output Word 1 contains the values 0000 hex (Read Analog Data) or 5000 hex (Configure and Read Analog), the Words return the analog input data. The format of this data depends on the configured format, which can be either Signed 15-Bit, or Standardized. For both formats, the measured value is represented in bits 14 to 0. An additional bit (bit 15) is available as a sign bit. Default Data Format Sign Analog Value Standardized Representation Data Format In this format, the measured data is standardized to represent the corresponding value without conversion. One bit has the value of 1 mv or 1 µa. (depending on which module terminals are used) Sign Channel Error Codes In both formats, values greater than 8000H indicate an error. 12 PCP Communications This VersaMax IP Analog Expansion Module can optionally use PCP communications for configuration and data transfer with an appropriate host. The module s PCP communications characteristics are described here. Details of using PCP communications are provided in the documentation for the host. If an invalid configuration is specified, a negative configuration is generated via error message 08 hex, 00 hex, or xx30 hex. The least significant byte of the additional error code is 30 hex (value out of range), the most significant byte contains the number of relevant elements. For example: Config Table is completely filled with data (subindex 00) and the entry for channel 2 is invalid. In this case, the additional error code is 0230 hex. 12
