We cannot be held liable for damage caused by an incorrect or unauthorized use or by non-observance of these operating instructions. Use the device only if it is undamaged. Any unauthorized work on the device is prohibited! Installation, maintenance, overhaul and repair may only be carried out by appropriately authorized and trained personnel. 5 Intended Use 5 Intended Use The Series explosion-protected Arc-Fault devices (ExAFCI) provide protection against line-to-ground and line-to-neutral arc as well as integral short circuit and over-current protection for feeder or branch circuits. Refer to the technical data and installation information on the front and side mounted nameplates of the devices. For Class I, Zone 1 installations, Series ExAFCI must be installed in a Certified Increased Safety e enclosure. When installing the ExAFCI into e enclosures the spacing distances through air and over surface, in accordance with ANSI/ISA UL508A for USA, must be maintained. The spacing between breakers must be ) 9 mm. For Class I, Division 2 installations, Series ExAFCI must be installed in a suitable enclosure providing mechanical protection, provisions for conduit/cable entry, and sufficient clearance for electrical connections as per UL508A for USA. The spacing between breakers must be ) 9 mm. Series ExAFCI have been certified as a component and the suitability of the final assembly is to be determined by approved Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL) or the local inspection authorities having jurisdiction. The terminals of the Arc-Fault device are identified as LINE ; N (PANEL) ; N (LOAD) & LOAD for line and load connection of supply wires. Supply wires shall be copper wires only 14 AWG to 8 AWG - solid or stranded - rated +75 C for up to 20 A. 8.3 Mounting and Operating Position HINT Do not reverse-feed or back-wire the unit. HINT Do not subject the unit to megger, high voltage, or hi-pot test. Remove from service before high-potting occurs on the system or on the circuit. 6 ExAFCI

7 Installation HINT Do not ground the neutral on the load side of the ExAFCI. To avoid accidental bypassing of protection, the load circuit wiring should be separated from other wiring by suitable means. Turn off the main or incoming power. Move the handle of the unit to the OFF (0) position. Connect the incoming power to the LINE terminal. Connect the N (PANEL) (typically the white neutral pig-tail ). Connect the LOAD and N (LOAD) to the appropriate terminals. Verify that the terminals are torqued to the appropriate value. Check the wiring to make sure that there are no shared neutral connections. 8 Maintenance, Overhaul and Repair 9 Maintenance, Overhaul and Repair The following details must be checked during maintenance: Compliance with the permitted temperatures (according to ANSI/ISA 60079) Damage to the enclosure and to the thread We recommend an Electrical Prevention Maintenance program as described in NFPA 70 the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association Bulletin NFPA No. 70B respectively, and any local regulations. It is recommended that the device is tested at least once a year. Maintenance should only be performed by qualified and experienced personnel. Perform visual, electrical, and mechanical checks on all components on a regular basis: 1. Visually check for undue heating evidence by distortion of wires or other components, damaged or worn parts. 2. Electrically check to make sure that all connections are clean and tight. 3. Mechanically check that all parts are properly assembled, and operating mechanisms move freely. Replacement parts are available through R. STAHL distributors. Replace devices only with R. STAHL's explosion protected Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupters Series. To test the device: 1. Ensure there is power to the load center or panel. 2. Turn the ExAFCI to the ON (I) position. 3. Press the TEST button. The ExAFCI is functioning properly when: 1. The circuit is interrupted. 2. The handle moves to the tripped position. 3. The device can be reset. The ExAFCI is built with the Safe Test and Lockout feature. If this feature has tested the device and has failed the internal test, the Lockout feature will prevent the device operation. NOTE: On installation the device requires full voltage to perform the internal test. The device will not latch in the ON position until the Safe Test and Lockout function has been run. The device will stay in the ON position if power is removed, but if it is in the OFF position when power is removed, it will not maintain in the ON position until the internal test is performed again. 10 Disposal To avoid electrical shock, fire and/or explosions, always disconnect primary power source before inspection, service or maintenance. Observe the national waste disposal regulations. 8 ExAFCI
