1 General Specifications Model NTPA230 fitoms TIM Tank Inventory Management Module GENERAL The TIM (Tank Inventory Management ) is one of the packages in the fitoms (Future Integration Technology for Oil Movement System) module series used for offsite refinery operations, and to gather tank data and conduct alarm monitoring using a DCS platform (CENTUM CS 3000/CENTUM VP). The TIM package in the FCS (Field Control Station) is connected with a tank gauge system through sub-system communication, which is available as a standard function of the CENTUM CS 3000/CENTUM VP (typically a serial link with Modbus protocol). If the tank gauge system does not perform tank volume calculation, it can be done with the TIM at FCS level based on the pre-defined tank strapping table. The tank data gathered in real-time are kept in the standard instruments of the FCS. This ensures high reliability since the fully redundant FCS is available. These tank data can be displayed easily on a custom graphic display, which can be created by using the CENTUM CS 3000/CENTUM VP standard graphic builder without developing any application software. The HIS (Human Interface Station) is used as a user interface station and various standard displays are provided, which enable tank monitoring and various maintenance operations. FEATURES The TIM package has various advantages because the basic concept of its development is to utilize the standard functions of the CENTUM CS 3000/CENTUM VP as much as possible. 1. Realizing High Speed Scanning Real-time data gathering and tank alarm monitoring functions are executed in the FCS, allowing high-speed scanning. This function is effective mainly for tank switching operations in unloading operations and/or feed/rundown operations. 2. Improving Reliability Quite highly reliable systems can be configured by adopting the fully redundant FCS. 3. Utilizing Powerful CENTUM Standard Functions The real-time tank data that have been gathered/calculated, are stored in the standard instrument database of the FCS. Thus, these data can be presented in standard graphics, trend panels and other CENTUM CS 3000/CENTUM VP standard displays on the HIS. FUNCTION SPECIFICATIONS 1. Tank Data Gathering Function Tank Data Gathering/Calculation Function This function gathers real-time tank data from the tank gauge system periodically, and then calculates the current tank flowrate (incoming/outgoing), current tank volume and other data. After that the FCS stores these data into an instrument database. Data to be gathered: tank level (mm), tank temperature (deg. C), tank pressure (MPa: spherical tanks only) and volume (liters) Data to be calculated: volume (liters), ullage/available volume (liters), tank flowrate (Kl/h) and expected finish time of operation Tank Volume Calculation Function If the tank gauge system does not calculate tank volume and thus cannot be gathered to the TIM, this function is provided as an optional function to calculate tank volume based on the level and temperature, which are gathered from the tank gauge system, and performs temperature compensation based on the ASTM table. Monitoring Function Tank Status Management The status of each tank is managed by this function based on the Job Use Information sent from the Supervisory Computer System if installed, or manually set by the operator. Each tank has one of the following statuses: STATIC: MOVING-UP: MOVING-DOWN: UNDEFINED: OUT OF SERVICE: MAINTENANCE: The tank is not moving. The tank is being used as a receiving tank. The tank is being used as a sending tank. The tank is being used as both a receiving and sending tank. The tank cannot be used in operations for some reason. The tank is undergoing maintenance. Tank Alarm Monitoring The following tank alarms for each tank are monitored: -Level monitoring -Temperature monitoring -Pressure monitoring (for spherical tanks only) -Flowrate monitoring -Static electricity monitoring -Tank operation monitoring -Leakage monitoring -Pre-alarm monitoring Job Finish Condition Monitoring While a tank is used for oil movement operation, the target volume or the transferred volume is monitored. An event notification message (%M9: standard function of CENTUM CS 3000/CENTUM VP) is generated when the finished condition is met. 3. High Speed Scanning Usually, data gathering, volume calculation and alarm monitoring are executed every ten seconds. For tanks defined as high speed scan tanks, the data are gathered and monitored in a high speed monitoring period. This period can be configured for the specific FCS and is typically set at one second, although it can be any value in the range from 1 to Volume Calculation Request The Volume Calculation Function can be carried out on an on-demand basis by triggering from the Supervisory Computer. Parameters to be given to this function are: -Expected level -Temperature -Density -Water level (water volume) 5. Downloading Tank Data to the Tank Gauge System Density data and water volume are downloaded to the tank gauge system through the RS-232C serial link when data are provided by laboratory or operation personnel. 6. Tank Message The Supervisory Computer is notified of tank alarm occurrence/recovery messages, job pre-finish condition met and job finish condition met events. 7. Process Alarm Some tank messages are annunciated as process alarms (the types of process alarm are the same as that of PID instruments). This function becomes available if a representative alarm (CNF) is assigned as a process alarm. Oct.1,

3 8. User Interface Functions The following HMI screens are provided in the TIM as standard: TANK DETAIL DISPLAY (per tank): Detailed tank data are displayed mainly for monitoring purposes. ALARM VALUES SETTING (per tank): This screen enables various alarm limit values to be set. This display is called up from the TANK DETAIL DISPLAY. TANK USE INFORMATION (per tank): This screen is provided to display/modify the following Job Information which is currently using the tank. - JOB No. - JOB status - JOB direction (IN or OUT) - JOB finish condition type - JOB finish condition data - JOB pre-finish condition type - JOB pre-finish condition data 3 CRITICAL TANK DISPLAY(Tank summary): Summarized information about tanks, which should be carefully monitored in a particular operation (e.g. tank switch during unloading operation) is displayed. Addition and deletion of tanks to the list should be done manually from this display. TANK MAINTENANCE (per tank): Various alarm values are displayed and can be maintained through this screen. TANK TABLE MAINTENANCE (per tank): The tank strapping table is displayed and maintained through this screen. fitoms TIM SYSTEM MAINTENANCE (per FCS): System constant values (ZEXATIM) for the execution of the TIM are managed through this screen. TANK ALARM DETAIL DISPLAY(per tank): This screen is provided to display the alarm detail information for a specified tank. The data (level, temperature, etc.) should be mapped to the PVI or some other instrument which can be assigned to trend pages. High Speed Scan Tank Up to 10 high-speed scan tanks can be defined at the same time. User Interface Display The display period is 10 seconds for all displays.
