3 1. General description. REC800 Recorder is a device, which task is to register detected by the ZX1 / ZX4 fire control panel. It is plugged in between printer and the unit and it records to its memory, events that are send to the printer through that unit. Recorded events are being kept unaltered, and are an exact copy of the original messages and prints. Event recorder can hold over messages in its memory. User can search and access any of those events directly from the recorder (displayed on LCD screen). It is also possible to download all of the memory content to the computer, for further analysis using for instance EXCELL. Created file is in CSV format. 2. Mounting. Recorders circuit is mounted on one board. Its dimensions are compatible with fire units display modules dimensions. RES800 is to be mounted over the display module. To do so, unscrew the screws securing display module and put separating distances included in recorders package in their place. Screw the recorders board to the separating distances (Screen must be visible after opening fire units lid) than connect it to a fire unit. Do so using provided cables. Power supply cable is connected to +24 V DC output. Printer cable connects fire units printer output with Z21 output on the device. If there is a printer working with the fire unit, it needs to be connected to Z22 output on the recorder. View of the device is located below. EVENT RECORDER RES800 MANUAL 3

4 3. Device usage. After mounting the recorder in a fire control unit (by using the separating distances), and connecting it correctly, according to this manual, the device is ready to work. There is a printer usage included in default settings. Settings needs to be changed manually in both cases, if a fire unit is not equipped with a printer or when a printer does not generate CTS signal. User can access the recorded content any time. It is also possible to download the content to a computer for further analyze using EXCELL Chosing language version. The device has two language versions - polish and English. The default one is English version. To chose a language, press and hold DOWN (2) button. To change language again simply press the DOWN (2) button and it will swap back to the previous version. 5 3.2. Configuration. To start configuration press and hold (for about 3 seconds) ENTER (3) button. If a printer is present and connected chose YES. When this is done, messages will be sent on the printer output. If NO is chosen, messages will not be sent on the printer output. Since not all printers use CTS line, it is possible to choose fitting option in next configuration step. If a printer does not require CTS line connected in RS232, press DOWN (2) button. The use of CTS line is following: When a printer equipped with CTS line, experience malfunction or lack of paper, the line activates. RES800 detects that, and signal it by displaying message as follows: NO PRINTER OR LACK OF PAPER. However, no signal is sent to fire control unit, and the recorder keeps on saving all messages. When initializing a configuration, by pressing and holding ENTER (3) button, LCD screen will display as bellow: Printer? UP=Yes YES DOWN=No Chose here whether or not, the messages are to be sent to the printer output. Top right corner indicates the current configuration. After choosing the desired setting, press ENTER (3) to continue to next question: Acknowledgement? YES UP=Yes DOWN=No Here chose if the printer uses CTS line, if it does, press UP (1), if not, DOWN (2). As previously the current state is displayed in top right corner. After choosing the desired setting press ENTER (3) to confirm and exit to main menu. Pressing C (4) button at any time results in exiting to main menu without saving changes. While in main menu, screen displays: RECORDER RES Browsing records on the display. To display records from memory, press UP (1) or DOWN (2) buttons. It will bring up current records on the display, navigate in previous or next events using UP and DOWN buttons. All events will be displayed without unnecessary spaces (still those remain in original memory record). Top line describes date and hour of the record. Bottom line show content of the record. 6 3.4. Downloading data to computer To read whole memory content easily, unplug the printer output and plug computer in, than run EvReader.exe. Program will automatically detect and connect with event recorder. To initialize data transfer, press C (4) button, thus exiting to main menu. Screen will display RECORDER RES800. Press and hold C (4) button for about 3 second, screen will display as follows: SEND DATA? UP=YES C=NO. Press UP (1) button, and than click READ in program. Screen will display START TRANSMIT while the data are being transmitted to the computer. Bottom line shows which memory sector is currently read. After reading sector nr 32, transmission is completed, and returning to main menu is possible. EvReader will automatically convert received data to CSV format. That file type is treated as data base by EXCELL and can be easily accessed, read, filtered or modified there Clearing recorders memory. This function results in complete and irreversible clearing of recorders memory. As such, it should only be used in appropriate circumstances. To delete memory, first unplug power supply from the device, than press and hold UP (1) DOWN (2) and C (4) all at the same time, and plug power supply back in. It will ask twice for confirmation of this action, and after that, complete and irreversible memory wipe will occur (It will be filled with empty signs). At any time before the wipe begins it is possible to cancel that command and return to main menu without losing any records.
