1 Getting Started This chapter wi expain the set-up and connection procedures for your projector, incuding information pertaining to basic adjustments and interfacing with periphera equipment. Powering Up The Projector Insert the power cord into the AC input socket of your projector, as shown in Figure 1. Connect the other end of the power cord to an AC outet. Upon connecting to power, the projector wi enter the Live State* the Lamp Age LED, the Lamp Status LED and the Power On/Standby LED wi fash on then off then on again. The fan wi turn on and the amp wi ight. During this time the projector keypad and the remote contro wi be inactive. After approximatey 12 seconds the remote contro and the projector keypad wi become active and a projector functions wi become accessibe. *For an expanation of the projectors operationa states see page A- in the appendix. 2 Getting Started Connecting to an IBM Compatibe Desktop PC. Set the resoution of your computer dispay to XGA (102x768) or ower. Disconnect the PC monitor cabe from the computer monitor output connection on your computer. Connect the suppied 15 pin VGA signa cabe to your projector Computer In connector as shown in figure 2. Connect the other end of the cabe to the monitor output connection of your computer. Note: If you wish to view your computer and projected images simutaneousy, use the 15-pin HD gender changer to connect the computer monitor cabe to the projector Monitor Out connector. 3 Connecting to an IBM Compatibe Laptop PC Set the resoution of your aptop dispay to XGA (102x768) or ower. Connect the suppied 15 pin VGA signa cabe to your projector Computer In as shown in figure 3. Connect the other end of the cabe to the externa monitor output connector of your computer. Activate the aptop s externa monitor (VGA) port. This is usuay accompished using the Fn key in conjunction with one of the function keys (Fn+F for exampe). Note: See page A-15 in the appendix for a ist of aptop manufacturers and the methods they use to activate the aptop s externa monitor port. 4 Getting Started Connecting to a Mac Desktop Computer If your Mac has a separate VGA output port, connect the suppied 15 pin VGA cabe to that output port and connect the other end of the VGA cabe to the Monitor In connector on the projector. In the Mac O/S contro pane, set the mirroring option to ON and designate the externa monitor as the active monitor. For more information on the mirroring function see page A-13 in the appendix. If your Mac does not have a separate VGA output port, then disconnect the monitor cabe from the computer monitor output connector and connect the Mac adapter (avaiabe upon request) to the monitor output connector on the computer as shown in figure. Connect the suppied VGA cabe to the output side of the Mac adapter. Set the dip switches on the Mac adapter to match the output requirements of your Mac. See page A-11 in the appendix for hep in setting the dip switches. Note: If you wish to view your computer and projected images simutaneousy, you can use the buit-in monitor oop-through connection of the projector to connect to your Mac monitor. Connect the Mac oop-through adapter (avaiabe upon request) to the projector Monitor Out connector. Connect your Mac monitor cabe to the output side of the oop-through adapter. 5 Connecting to a Mac Laptop Computer Connect the Mac adapter (avaiabe upon request*) to the aptop externa monitor output port. Connect the suppied VGA cabe to the output side of the Mac adapter shown in figure 5. Connect the other end of the VGA cabe to the L-1020 Monitor In connector. Set the dip switches on the Mac adapter to match the output requirements of your Mac. See page A-11 in the appendix for hep in setting the dip switches. Different modes of Mac Computers have different requirements for using an externa monitor. For more information on connecting to an externa monitor or projector see page A13 in the appendix. 6 Getting Started Connecting to Computer Audio There are separate audio input connections for computer and VCR on your Lightware L To connect to your computer audio output, pug one end of the suppied stereo-audio cabe (3.5mm mae connectors on each end) into the audio output jack of your desktop computer or the speaker output jack of your aptop. Connect the other end of the stereo audio cabe to the computer Audio In jack of the Lightware L-1020 as shown in figure 6. The L-1020 has the capabiity of providing an audio signa to powered externa speakers via the 3.5mm Audio Out jack. 7 Connecting to a Video Payer The L-1020 accepts both composite video and S-video inputs from a video payer as we as stereo audio inputs. Use the three wire composite video/stereo-audio cabe, shipped with your projector, to connect to your video payer video and audio outputs as shown in figure 7. The coor coded red and white connectors are for audio and the yeow connector is for composite video. If you are using an S-video source instead of composite, the composite video cabe wi remain unused, as shown in figure 8. 8 Getting Started Connecting the Remote Mouse To contro your computer mouse from the projector s remote contro, use the foowing procedure: 1. Turn off your computer. 2. Disconnect the standard mouse from the mouse port on your computer. 3. Connect the remote mouse interface cabe between the 9 pin DIN of the projector and the appropriate mouse connector (seria, PS2, ADB) on your computer, as shown in figure 9.. Make sure that your projector is connected to power and then power up your computer. For most appications the above procedure is a that is required. If you are encountering difficuty, pease refer to Configuring Your Remote Mouse on page A-8 in the appendix. Note: ADB adapters for Macintosh computers are avaiabe upon request at no charge. 9 Operating the Projector This chapter describes how to operate your projector. It incudes information on how to adjust the projector, use the remote contro, and how to access and use the on-screen menus. Powering up the Projector Be sure the projector is propery connected to power and the projector is in the Seep state*. Press the Power On/Standby button and the projector wi enter the Live state* with the amp on and the fan at high speed. (The amp takes approximatey 30 seconds to reach fu brightness.) The projector uses a group of defaut settings at startup. These defaut settings can be modified through choices made in the menus. See page17 Menus. The defaut settings provide an on-screen Startup ogo for the first five seconds and then seect the data input source. If no data source is present the projector wi seect a video payer input source. If no input source is detected, the image projected wi defaut to the Startup ogo. If no Startup ogo was seected in the features menu then the screen wi be bank. Caution: Utra High Pressure amps need to be in a stabe condition prior to turning them on or off. To protect the amp and the projector, Lightware has designed protective deays into the power up and power down circuitry. After first turning on the amp, a 30 second timer prevents prematurey turning it off. After turning off the amp, a 60 second timer prevents turning it on prematurey. Pease do not attempt to bypass these deays. *for more information on the operationa states of the L-1020, see Operationa States on page A- in the appendix. Tip: If you are connected to a aptop and are not projecting an image you may have not propery activated the externa video output port. 10 Operating the Projector Adjusting Focus To adjust focus, rotate the focus ring, as shown in figure 10, unti the image is cear. 11 Adjusting Height To adjust the height of the front of the projector, Lightware has provided a quick-reease eevator foot under the front center of the projector. To set the appropriate projector height, press the reease mechanism shown in figure 12, and ift the front of the projector. Once the appropriate height is reached, et go of the reease mechanism to ock the eevator foot in pace. To set the eve, rotate the foot of the appropriate rear corner, as shown in figure 13, unti the projected image is eve. 12 Operating the Projector Remote Contro The wireess remote contro is simiar to those used for TV's and VCR's. It aows you to set up and adjust the projector image and to conduct interactive presentations. The projector contro buttons on the remote contro give you instant access to a projector functions. The buit in joystick and mouse buttons aow remote contro of the computer mouse with a of the functionaity of your standard computer mouse. Configuring your remote mouse with appropriate drivers and the use of simutaneous remote mouse and aptop pointer are discussed in Configuring Your Remote Mouse on page A-8 in the appendix. 13 Remote Functions The foowing describes the various projector functions avaiabe from the remote contro. Those functions aso avaiabe from the projector keypad are noted. On/Standby Press the On/Standby button, on the remote contro or the projector keypad, to cause the projector to change the fan speed to high and turn the amp on (Live* state). If the projector amp has been on for more than 30 seconds, pressing it again wi sow the fan speed to standby and turn off the amp (Standby* state). If the amp has been on for ess than 30 seconds the projector wi enter the StandbyPending* state and the Power On/Standby button on the projector keypad wi fash pending transition to the Live state. *For more information on the operationa states of the projector see Operationa States on page A- in the appendix. Source Press the Source button on the remote contro or the projector keypad to togge the input to the projector through the avaiabe input sources i.e. computer, composite video and S-video. If there are no other active input sources connected an error message wi appear for 5 seconds indicating the ack of an additiona signa source and the source seection wi remain where it is. Directiona Seect Keys The Directiona Seect Keys on the remote contro or the projector keypad provide the foowing functions: Menu navigation and seection Projected image positioning Pan around a zoomed or cropped image. 14 Operating the Projector Remote Functions (continued) Menu Press the Menu key on the remote contro or the projector keypad to activate the on-screen main menu. Pushing it once more wi de-activate the on-screen main menu. Curtain Press the Curtain key on the remote contro to overay a curtain on the entire projected dispay. You can then revea portions of the dispay by using the arrow keys to side the curtain down, up, right, or eft. Freeze Press the Freeze button on the remote contro to freeze the projected image. Press the Freeze button again or transition to another source to return the projector to norma dispay operation. Tip: You can use the Freeze button to hod an image on the projected screen whie you are making changes to your presentation or checking your notes on your computer screen. Once the adjustments are made, simpy press the freeze button again to return to your presentation. Zoom Press the Zoom In key on the remote contro to cause the dispay to zoom in on the center of the projected image. Zoom wi magnify the image up to 8 times in 19 steps. Continued pressing of the Zoom Out key wi return the dispay to the norma size. 15 Pointer Press the Pointer key on the remote contro to produce an arrow shaped pointer in the center of the screen. The Directiona Seect keys are used to move the pointer around the screen. Audio Contros Press the + key on the remote contro to increase the voume of the audio. Press the - key on the remote contro to decrease the voume of the audio. Press the Mute key to mute the audio. Remote Backight Press and hod theright Mouse button on the remote contro for severa seconds to activate the backight for the remote contro buttons. Computer Mouse Contro Use the Joystick on the remote contro to contro the computer mouse in a manner simiar to the standard mouse contro used on most computers. Right Mouse Button The Right Mouse button on the remote contro functions in a manner simiar to the standard right mouse button contro on most computers. Left Mouse Button The Left Mouse button on the remote contro functions in a manner simiar to the standard eft mouse button contro on most computers. Lightware L-1020 Projector User s Guide 15

16 Operating the Projector Projector Contro Pane Figure 15 shows the ayout of the L-1020 keypad contros. The Lamp Age LED and the Lamp Status LED provide information on the condition of the High Intensity Discharge Lamp. 17 Menus Menu Operation Press the Menu button on the remote contro or on the projector s contro pane to bring up the on-screen main menu and the sub-menu for the highighted seection. Each main menu item has an associated sub-menu. Press the Up or Down arrow keys on the remote contro to highight a menu item. Highighting the menu item brings up the submenu for that seection. Use the Right arrow key to move to the submenu. The sub-menus provide a of the choices that reate to the main menu seection. Press the Up or Down keys to highight your choice and then press the Right arrow key to bring up either a side contro that wi adjust the eve or vaue of that choice or a second sub-menu that wi provide the fina seections. A typica exampe of each is shown beow. Any changes or adjustments made are saved when the projector is powered down. The L-1020 wi remember the configuration settings for the ast ten signa sources used with the projector and reca those settings whenever one of those devices is detected. 18 Operating the Projector For those menus with a reset function, highight and use the right arrow to move to the sub-menu. Whie in the submenu press the down arrow to reset the functions in that menu. Seect in the Main menu to reset vaues in the Main menu as foows: Audio - s a vaues in the audio menu. Picture - s a vaues in the picture menu. Source - s to Computer as first choice. Features - s Compression, Ceiing Mount, Rear Projection, it does not reset Language, Startup Logo and Curtain. 19 Audio Menu To access the Audio menu from the Main menu, use the Up or Down arrows on the remote contro or projector to highight Audio in the Main menu. Use the Right arrow to move to the sub-menu for the seection. In the Audio menu, use the Up or Down arrows to highight the function that you wish to seect. For Voume, Bass, Trebe and Baance a Side Rue wi appear as shown beow. For the Stereo Mode, Mute and functions, sub-menus wi appear. Linear Stereo: Norma stereo without any extra processing. Pseudo Stereo: Creates ike stereo effect from mono source. 21 Baance Choosing Baance wi produce a side-rue that wi aow you to adjust the eft-right baance between the stereo speakers. Use the Up arrow to move the sound baance to the right. Use the Down arrow to move the sound baance to the eft. Mute Choose Mute to produce a menu with the foowing choices. Use the Up or Down arrow keys to make a seection. On Off (defaut) Choose to produce a menu that wi aow you to make the foowing choices. Pressing the Down arrow wi activate the reset function which wi reset a audio functions to factory defaut. 22 Operating the Projector Picture Menu The Picture menu provides a series of choices that determine how the projected image wi appear on screen. Seect Picture from the main menu to produce the foowing sub menu. Hep Audio Picture Source Features Custom Modes Service Frequency Tracking Contrast Brightness Sharpness Room Light Coor Tint Frequency Frequency (Data Ony) The L-1020 is automaticay set to the optimum frequency based on the detected data input signas. In some cases however manua frequency adjustment may be required. The Frequency adjustment acts as a horizonta size contro matching the cock frequency of the projector to that of the computer. A misadjusted frequency wi cause eveny spaced dark vertica ines or distortions to appear on the projected image. Use the side rue contro to adjust the frequency unti the ines spread apart and finay disappear. After you have competed the Frequency adjustment, continue on to the Tracking adjustment described beow. Seect Frequency to produce a Side Rue contro. Press the Up arrow key to increase frequency. 23 Tip: For Windows 95 users the best screen to use when adjusting frequency is the Windows shut down screen. To access this screen, cick on the Start button on the task bar and cick on shut down. When the frequency adjustment is competed, cick on no and return to your active screen. Tracking (Data Ony) The L-1020 is automaticay set to the optimum tracking vaue based on the detected data input signas. In some cases however manua tracking adjustment may be required. The Tracking adjustment is used to remove the ast indications of noise or shaded areas that remain on the screen after competing the Frequency adjustment. No Tracking adjustment shoud be made unti the Frequency adjustment is checked. It may be necessary to adjust the Frequency and Tracking a few times to correcty match the projector to the computer. Seect Tracking to produce a side rue contro. Press the Up arrow key to increase tracking eve. Press the Down arrow key to decrease the tracking eve. Contrast Seect Contrast to produce a side rue contro. Press the Up arrow key to increase the contrast eve. Press the Down arrow key to decrease the contrast eve. 24 Operating the Projector Brightness Seect Brightness to produce a side rue contro. Press the Up arrow key to increase the brightness eve. Press the Down arrow key to decrease the brightness eve. Sharpness (Video Ony) Seect Sharpness to produce a side rue contro. Press the Up arrow key to increase the sharpness eve. Press the Down arrow key to decrease the sharpness eve. Room Light Room Light aows you to compensate for differences in room ighting conditions. Each Room Light vaue sets the optimum eves of brightness, contrast and coor saturation to compensate for different ighting conditions. Seect Room Light to produce the menu choices shown beow. Choose Source to produce a menu to choose among Computer, Composite Video or S-Video. Use the Up or Down arrow keys to make the seection. Enabe wi configure an SXGA image to fit the XGA screen. Disabe provides a 102x768 window of the SXGA screen. Use the arrow keys to move around the SXGA screen. 30 Operating the Projector Custom Modes Menu The L-1020 can be used with many different video sources in many different environments. Custom Modes aows the user to save four different user configurations. The parameters that wi be saved as a custom mode are as foows: Frequency Vertica Position Contrast Room Light Tint Sharpness Tracking Horizonta Position Brightness Zoom Setting Coor To save a Custom Mode for an input device, seect Custom Modes in the Main menu. Use the Right arrow key to move to the sub-menu. Use the Up or Down arrow keys to highight the mode number under which the mode wi be saved. Use the Right arrow key to move to the next sub-menu. Highight Set to Current to save the present configuration. The saved Custom Mode is saved with and takes priority over the ten saved modes whenever that device is detected.
