3 User Manual E530 AB.0 General Description The E-530 is an iremental position sensor with ohip eoding for direct digital output. A Hall element array on the chip is used to derive the iremental position of an external magnetic strip placed above the IC at a distae of 0.3 mm (typ). This sensor array detects the ends of the magnetic strip to provide a zero referee point. The integration of Hall-effect position sensors, analog front end and digital signal processing on a single IC chip provides an ingeniously small position sensor, without the need for external pulse counters. Direct digital output is accessible over the serial interface using I²C protocol. The E-530 provides absolute position information over the length of a magnet pole pair ( mm). A user can count pole pairs and achieve absolute position information over the entire length of the magnet (essentially unlimited). With better than 0.5 µm resolution, the E530 is a robust, costeffective alternative to miniature optical eoders. It can be used as a linear or off-axis rotary eoder. The E530 adapter board. Board description The E530 adapter board is a simple circuit allowing test and evaluation of the E530 High Resolution Magnetic Linear Eoder quickly without building a test fixture or PCB. The PCB can be used as standalone unit or attached to a microcontroller. The standalone operation requires a power supply only; the magnet s angle can be read on the -,I C- or Iremental Outputs. 4 User Manual E530 AB.0. Mounting the E530 Adapterboard The E530 accepts magnetic multipole strip or ring magnets with a pole length of.0mm. The airgap between the magnet and the E530 casing should be maintained in the range 0.mm~0.4mm. The magnet holder must not be ferromagnetic. Materials as brass, copper, aluminum, stainless steel are the best choices to make this part. The output starts with a pulse width of µs, ireases the pulse width with every step of 0.488µm and reaches a maximum pulse width of 4097µs at the end of each pole pair. ee E530 datasheet for more details on the output.
