The PCBs used for the keypad matrix with or without LED backlighting and firmware controller have been redesigned with up-todate electronics. The cable is modified for the standard USB or PS2 interface connection. The power supply and cable for backlighting in the M713/M711 are not required as the power for the whole keyboard is supplied through the standard USB or PS2 5V pin. The rubber keypad, plastic keycaps, and other mounting hardware are still the same as the M713/M711. The environmental specifications, excluding the temperature spec, are listed here based on the similarity of mechanical construction between M813 with M713/M711. PART NO. 2

4 2.0 MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS 2.1 Layout and Outline Dimensions The keyboard layout and outline dimensions are shown in Fig. 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d. Fig. 2 shows the panel cutout recommendation for the surface mount application. Fig. 3 shows the panel cutout and hardware recommendation for the rear mount application. The recommended torque to be applied to each bolt (screw) when panel mounting the keyboard is 0.60 Nm (5.31 lbf in). The mounting screws and nuts on the keyboard are M3 x 0.5 metric for both surface and rear mount applications. 5

3.0 INTERFACE CONNECTIONS The keyboard is designed to accommodate both USB and PS2 interface with two different connectors on the same controller board.

1 Keyboard Connection USB For the USB model, a 5-pin mating connector is used to connect a USB cable to the controller board on the back of the keyboard as shown in Fig. 4.

8 3.0 INTERFACE CONNECTIONS The keyboard is designed to accommodate both USB and PS2 interface with two different connectors on the same controller board. Either USB or PS2 cable, but not both, can be used for the keyboard application. 3.1 Keyboard Connection USB For the USB model, a 5-pin mating connector is used to connect a USB cable to the controller board on the back of the keyboard as shown in Fig. 4. The manufacturer part number of the 5-pin connector is from MOLEX, with mechanical details described in Fig. 5. The typical wire size AWG# is for this connector. The other end of the USB cable typically is a standard USB type A male connector. It is compliant with USB 2.0 standard specifications, which includes plug and play and hot swappable. However, the following parts are available from Staco Systems for use with the M813 keyboard. Please contact Staco Systems Sales for more information. 1. 3.2 Keyboard Connection - PS2 For the PS2 model, an 8-pin mating connector is used to connect a PS2 cable to the controller board on the back of the keyboard as shown in Fig. 7.

10 3.2 Keyboard Connection - PS2 For the PS2 model, an 8-pin mating connector is used to connect a PS2 cable to the controller board on the back of the keyboard as shown in Fig. 7. The manufacturer part number of the 8-pin connector is from MOLEX, with mechanical and pinout details described in Fig. 8. The typical wire size AWG# is for this connector. The mouse data and clock pins (4 and 5) on this connector are not used as this keyboard is not equipped with a pointer device. Fig. 9 shows the PS/2 connector configuration for the keyboard. 11 The PS2 cable is not included with the sales of the keyboard. However, the following parts are available from Staco Systems for use with the M813 keyboard. Please contact Staco Systems Sales for more information. 1. Staco P/N: TAB PS2 coil cable. Note that L1 is the length of the coiled cable section and L is the overall cable length unstretched and stretched L (cm) L1 (cm) UNSTRETCHED STRETCHED COILED Staco P/N: PS2 adapter cable for M813-M711 keyboard and M813- M713 keyboard with header pins. 3.3 LED Backlighting The keyboard is equipped with green LED backlight. When turned ON, it illuminates all keys. Its brightness can be adjusted through 5 levels of dimming, plus an off position, by pressing the Control, Alt, and or (Up or Down Arrow) keys at the same time to adjust the brightness. Three indicator keys, Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scr Lock, will turn red when pressed. 11

12 4.0 EMI/RFI SPECIFICATIONS (M8132X MODELS) The M8132X models are designed with enhanced shielding for EMI/RFI applications. These models passed RE102 (Radiated Emission, Electrical Field, 10 KHz to 18 GHz) and RS103 (Radiated Susceptibility, Electrical Field, 80 MHz to 2 GHz) specified in MIL-STD-461. The test report of the scan results is available upon request. 5.0 PART NUMBER AND COLOR INFORMATION Typical color configuration for the keyboard is described in Table 1. Other color combination may be available upon request.
