VARAN-INTERFACE VAC 012 This VARAN interface module is used for communication between a DIAS drive and a control over the VARAN bus. The VAC 012 is built into the DIAS-Drive and is also equipped with interface connections for the safety circuit, with which the DIAS-Drive can be placed in a secure status. In addition, the interface has digital inputs, which can be used as quick-latch inputs. Through the VARAN-Out port, the VARAN bus can be configured in a linear structure. Please see the DIAS-Drives Handbook for important information! Page 1

Additional Safety Information Only qualified personnel are authorized to install the "safe restart lock" and set the parameters. All control devices (switches, relays, PLC, etc.) and the control closet must meet the requirements for EN 954-1, EN ISO This consists of: Door switches, etc. with at least IP54 protection. Control classes with IP54 protections. The proper cables and end-sleeves must be used The control cable for the ENABLE, LOCK, EN-BRAKE inputs and the SAFE LOCK output are limited to a maximum length of 25 m. All cables that are affected by safety (i.e. control cables for the safety relays, feedback connection) must be placed in a cable canal outside the control cabinet. Short or crossed circuits in the signal lines must be avoided! See EN 954-2, table D4 If forces influence axes that use the "safe restart lock" function (e.g. hanging load), additional measures must be taken (such as an electromagnetic double-surface spring brake, instead of a permanent magnet brake). Failure to follow the above safety measures can lead to severe injuries. The main power supply for the servo amplifier,, must be disconnected using the main switch for the following instances: Cleaning, maintenance or repairs Extended still-stand periods Failure to follow the above safety measures can lead to severe injuries Page 9
Additional Information Safe restart lock In combination with the optional interface board, the DIAS-Drive supports the "safe restart lock" function in accordance with the requirements of safety category 3, EN 954 part 1 and 2 and/or performance level "d" per ISO For this purpose, the servo amplifier has two independent, parallel-functioning safety paths. The safety category is reached if the "SAFE LOCK" output is used in addition to the safety circuit. The stop brake is also integrated in the safety circuit. For this safety function, the safety category 1 for EN 954 part 1 and 2 or performance level "c" according to ISO is reached. Through the pre-switch, an additional safety circuit before the 24V-BR brake supply voltage can further increase the safety category. Implementation The following block diagram gives an overview of the internal switching circuit. The LOCK and ENABLE signals are connected directly to the micro controller and the two independent cut-off delay circuits, which delay the signal through the hardware for approximately 0.5 s. The delayed LOCK signal delays the cut-off of the voltage supply for the drivers in the IGBT power stages. The ENABLE signal delays the locking of the control signal for the power stages. This provides two different and independently functioning circuits. The EN- BRAKE signal is, as with the other two signals, galvanically separated from the internal potential of the electronics using optic couplers. It is also connected to the cut-off delay circuit, which also delays the signal for approximately 0.5 s. The non-delayed signal is connected to the micro controller. The delayed signal switches the 24 V voltage supply for the stop brake off. The function for these three signals is monitored. Only when all signals have reached a safe status are the contacts between S1 and S2 of the "SAFE LOCK" relay closed and the contacts between S3 and S4 opened (positively driven contacts). If one or all signals (EN- ABLE, LOCK or EN-BRAKE) turned off under emergency-stop conditions, the motors of the servo amplifiers are stopped (stop category 1, EN ). If all three signals are deactivated, the servo amplifiers are placed in the safe restart lock status with a 0.5 s delay. Page

Functions The "safe restart lock" function uses three digital inputs to bring the servo amplifiers to the safe status. ENABLE input LOCK input EN-BRAKE input All three signals must be open or "low" to activate the safe restart lock. To simplify the external emergency-stop circuit in the control cabinet, deactivate the three servo amplifier inputs from the micro controller directly. The micro controller brakes the motor until it's completely stopped before the power stage is deactivated. Parallel to this, the inputs are disables over the hardware with a delay of 0.5 s. After this time has elapsed, the inputs force the servo amplifier in the safe status. - The Enable input blocks the control signal for the power stage - The LOCK input deactivates the voltage supply to the IGBT power stage driver. This is the second path, for which the control signal deactivates the power stage. - The EN-BRAKE input enables the 24 V supply voltage for the stop brake. This input can be set to "high" so that the axle can be moved mechanically, without losing the safe restart lock for the power output stage. The stop brake for each axle can then be triggered with the K-BRAKE = 1 command. Even when one or more motors do not have a stop brake, the EN-BRAKE input must be set to "high" in order to enable the servo amplifier. The status of the driver voltage supply is returned and connected over an OR logic gate with the internal ENABLE signal and the internal EN-BRAKE signal. Only when these three signals are in safe status, is the "SAFE LOCK" rely contact at output S1/S2 closed and symbolizes the status of the safe restart lock after approximately 0.6 s. If the LOCK, ENABLE and EN-BRAKE are set to "high", the servo amplifier is not immediately enabled. In addition, (K-EN = 1) or the corresponding bit in the control word must be set over the software to enable the power stage. Page

The test is required for the following instances: After installation In regular intervals, or at least once a year. If the function test results in an invalid machine status, the error must be found before the safety function is retested. If the error reoccurs during the function test, the machine can no longer be operated. Failure to follow the above safety measures can lead to severe injuries. Test conditions The total safety circuit must be tested for functionability As listed in the table below, the safe restart lock is tested at the DIAS-Drives directly Page 13

An additional circuit is therefore required. The circuit must be adapted to the existing safety concept and tested for functionabilty. The stop brake circuit meets the requirements for safety category 1 for EN 954 part 1 and 2 or performance level "c" according to ISO The circuit contains the minimum wiring for an axles with the use of conventional switch contacts for a motor with a stop brake. If the ENABLE and EN-BRAKE signals are connected to common switch, the axle cannot be moved manually. If the axle should also be movable, an additional switch for the EN- BRAKE is required. Page

VARAN Recommended Shielding The VARAN real-time Ethernet bus system offers robust performance in harsh industrial environments. Through the use of IEEE standard Ethernet physics, the potential between an Ethernet line and sending/receiving components is kept separate. The VARAN Manager resends messages to a bus participant immediately when an error occurs. It is principally recommended that the shielding guidelines below be followed. For applications in which the bus line is run outside the control cabinet, correct shielding is required. This is especially important, if due to physical requirements, the bus lines must be placed next to sources of strong electromagnetic noise. It is recommended that whenever possible, to avoid wiring VARAN-Bus lines parallel to power cables. SIGMATEK recommends the use of CAT5e industrial Ethernet bus lines. For the shielding variants, an S-FTP bus line is recommended, which is a symmetric, multiwire cable with unshielded pairs. For the total shielding, a combination of foil and braiding is used; it is recommended that an unvarnished variant be used. The VARAN cable must be secured at a distance of 20 cm from the connector for protection against vibration! Page
1. Wiring from the Control Cabinet to an External VARAN Component If the Ethernet lines are connected from a VARAN component to a VARAN node outside the control cabinet, the shielding should be placed at the entry point to the control cabinet housing. All noise can then be deflected from the electronic components before reaching the module Page 23
2. Wiring Outside of the Control Cabinet If a VARAN bus cable must be placed outside of the control cabinet only, no additional shield connection is required. This requires that only IP67 modules and connectors be used. These components are very robust and noise resistant. The shielding for all sockets in IP67 modules are internally connected to common bus or electrically connected to the housing, whereby the deflection of voltage spikes does not flow through the electronics. Page
3. Shielding for Wiring Within the Control Cabinet VARAN INTERFACE VAC 012 Sources of strong electromagnetic noise located within the control cabinet (drives, Transformers, etc.) can induce interference in a VARAN bus line. Spike voltages are deflected over the metallic housing of a RJ45 connector. Noise is conducted through the control cabinet housing without further action from the electronic components To eliminate sources of noise during data transfer, it is recommended that the shielding from all electronic components be connected within the control cabinet Page 25
4. Connecting Noise-Generating Components With the connection of power components that generate strong electromagnetic noise, it is also critical to ensure correct shielding. The shielding should be placed before a power component (or a group thereof). Page
5. Shielding Between Two Control Cabinets VARAN INTERFACE VAC 012 If two control cabinets must be connected over a VARAN bus, it is recommended that the shielding be located at the entry points to both cabinets. Noise can thereby be kept from reaching the electronics within the control cabinet Page 27
