ELAN VIDEO MATRIX SUPPORTS THE FOLLOWING FEATURES: Auto Network Discovery: During initial configuration the ELAN Configurator will locate all ELAN matrix devices on the network. EDID Type Setting: Use the ELAN Configurator to easily edit EDID parameters for each source. 2 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW Design and document the details for the distributed AV system including sources and zones. During the rough-in phase install the necessary cabling for the distributed audio/video installation. Also during the rough-in phase, run a network cable from the location of the ELAN Matrix back to the ELAN controller location to provide the Ethernet connection needed to control the Matrix. Refer to Connection Diagrams below for details. Install the speakers, displays, and other required components per your design. Connect the ELAN Matrix to the sources and zones per your design. Refer to the ELAN Matrix documentation for connection details. Refer to the following steps and the ELAN Configurator Details chart below to add the ELAN Matrix: a. Add the Matrix as a Zone Controller on the Media tab of the Configurator b. Optionally, click Import Setting from Switch to read in all configuration setting from the switch. c. Configure all sources settings including source device, name, and all applicable settings. Refer to the chart below. d. Configure all zones setting including the zone name and all applicable zone settings. Refer to the chart below. Test the system by selecting sources in each zone to confirm the correct source plays. 2 of 6

3 ETHERNET CONFIGURATION No specific network configuration is required on the ELAN Matrix. The default network configuration on the ELAN Matrix is DHCP. This setting will allow for the Matrix to automatically obtain an IP address on your network and be discoverable in the ELAN configurator. Optionally, to ensure a reliable connection ELAN recommends setting all network control devices with a static IP address outside of the DHCP range of the network. Refer to the ELAN Matrix documentation for specific details on setting the IP of the Matrix via its web interface. 4 SERIAL WIRING TO THE MATRIX CHASSIS: The serial port on the matrix chassis is a 3-position screw down terminal. This terminal must be wired as shown in the chart below when using a 568B terminated CAT5 or CAT6 cable that is connected to an ELAN Controller RJ45 Serial Port or an ELAN RJ45 x DB-9 adapter. Use a null serial cable or use the standard straight thru ELAN serial adapters ( & ) with a null terminated CAT5/6 cable for connections to a standard serial port on a device. To make this null CAT5/6 cable terminate one end as standard T568B and terminate the other end per the chart below: RJ45 Pin # CAT5/6 Color (568B) 4 Blue 5 Green 6 Blue/White If the device you are connecting requires a null serial connection then do NOT use a null cable for this connection, use straight thru serial connection instead. Alternately, use the standard straight thru ELAN serial adapters ( & ) with a standard straight thru T568B terminated CAT5/6 cable. 4 of 6

5 ELAN CONFIGURATION DETAILS The following table provides settings used in the ELAN Configurator. Please refer to the ELAN Configurator Reference Guide for more details. o <Select> Select the appropriate item from the list (or drop-down) in the Configurator. o <User Defined>, etc. Type in the desired name for the item. o <Auto Detect> This parameter will be automatically detected by the ELAN configurator. 6 COMMON MISTAKES 1. Incorrect Matrix Version. Verify the version of the matrix matches the version information in the header of this document. 2. EDID Type setting not configurable. Verify the EDID DIP switches on the back panel are all set to down to allow EDID Type setting via configurator. Reboot the matrix after switching the DIP switches. 3. No power on the HDBT receivers: For the EL-4KM-V88 models: Verify the POH power supply is connected to the matrix and powered on. Verify the POH setting on the zone in the configurator is set to ENABLED. 4. No Serial communication pass thru to HDBaseT transmitters or receivers. Verify proper serial wiring per the diagrams listed under Serial Wiring above. Note that the HDBaseT transmitters and receivers have a null female connection. Be sure to always wire your controller serial port to the matrix chassis as shown in the diagram then connect your serial device to be controlled as described above based on its null/straight serial requirements.
