1 TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module Quick Reference en-us Packing List Introduction The TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module (TP-ADD-2D) can support two complete door configurations, with up to two readers per door. This module provides termination points for door contacts (door position switches) and Request to Exit (RTE) devices, as well as two door strike relays to control power to the controlled access doors. It communicates with the TruPortal System Controller (TP-SYS) via a two-wire RS-485 SNAPP bus. Model Numbers The TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module is available in a boardonly configuration (TP-ADD-2D-BRD) (see Figure 9) or preinstalled in a UL or CE enclosure with or without bundled readers and credentials (TP-ADD-2DR, TP-ADD-2D). The TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module is available in the following configurations: TP-ADD-2D-BRD (board only) TP-ADD-2D (installed in UL enclosure) TP-ADD-2D2R (installed in UL enclosure with two readers) TP-ADD-2D-E (installed in CE enclosure) TP-ADD-4D (installed in UL enclosure with two Dual Door Interface Modules) Note: -E model numbers are Not Evaluated by UL and therefore cannot be used in UL installations. TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module (quantity = 1) Mounting plate (depending on option ordered) UL or CE enclosure with power supply (depending on option ordered) T-100 readers (depending on option ordered; quantity = 2) Installation kit which includes: - Two positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 5) - Three positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 4) - Four positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 4) - Six positional terminal plug-in block (quantity = 2) - 1N4005 diodes (quantity = 2) - End-of-Line (EOL) resistors 1k ohm, 1% (quantity = 8) - Plastic board supports for optional mounting (quantity = 4) Installation Procedure To install the TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module, perform the procedures described in the following sections, in the order in which they are presented. 1. Mount the enclosure. 2. Mount the module in the enclosure. 3. Wire the relay outputs for door strike(s) and AUX. 4. Wire the reader(s). 5. Install the reader voltage jumpers. 6. Wire the alarm inputs. 7. Wire the tamper switch. 8. Wire the power and communications inputs 9. Apply power to the unit and listen for the relays to click. Observe LED indicators to verify correct board operation. 10. Ensure all wires are clear and secure the cover. WARNING: Circuit board components are vulnerable to damage by electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can cause immediate or subtle damage to sensitive electronic parts. An electrostatic charge can build up on the human body and then discharge when touching a board. A discharge can be produced when walking across a carpet and touching a board, for example. Before handling any board, make sure to dissipate any charge by touching the ground. This discharges any static electricity build-up. P/N C REV JUL13 1
2 Mounting the Enclosure 1. Remove enclosure from shipping container and remove any packing material. 2. Using the template provided (part number or ), mark and then drill mounting holes. 3. To mount on dry wall, use 1/8 in. (3.175 mm) hollow wall, expansion anchors. Unscrew the screws from the anchors. Mark the mounting holes. Force a starter hole in each mark with a sharp tool. Hammer the anchors into each hole. Align the box mounting holes over the anchor holes and screw in the anchors until tight. To mount on a concrete surface, hold the enclosure on the mounting surface. Mark the mounting holes. Use a hammer drill with a 3/16 in. (4.76 mm) carb alloy drill bit and make 1 in. (25.4 mm) deep holes in each marking. Insert a # 6-8 plastic anchor in each hole and hammer them in. Use # 8 X 1 in.(25.4 mm), Phillips wood screws to screw into the plastic anchors and mount the enclosure. 4. The enclosure includes standard cable knockouts on each side, including the back. Use the proper size and type of cable strain reliefs to secure cables to the enclosure. See Figure 10 for TP-ADD-2D enclosure dimensions. For TP-ADD-4D dimensions, see Figure 11. Mounting the Module in the Enclosure Use the provided hardware as required to mount the module in the enclosure. Note: Do not over-tighten the mounting screws. To mount the module in the AL400 enclosure using the mounting plate, see Figure 12. To mount the module in the AL600 enclosure using the mounting plate, see Figure 13. To mount the module in AL400 enclosure without the mounting plate, see Figure 14. To mount the module in AL600 enclosure without the mounting plate, see Figure 15. Wiring Figure 1: Components and Cable Specifications The following table lists the items shown in Figure 1. 1 Reader cable (22 AWG, (0.64 mm / 0.33 mm 2 ) shielded, 3 pairs) 2 Door contact/sensor wiring (22 AWG, 1 pair) 10 Door 1 or 2 (with door closer) 11 Last module 3 Request to Exit (RTE) 12 Transformer 4 RTE button wiring (22 AWG (1.02 mm/.82 mm 2 ), 1 pair) 13 Power supply 5 Door lock 14 Next module 6 Door lock wiring (18 AWG, 1 pair) * Module bus (24 AWG (.51 mm/.20 mm 2 ), four shielded wires, 120 ohms) (See Figure 1.) For the Door Unlock Circuit, a diode is provided to protect against voltages induced when a DC strike is de-energized. For an AC strike, or a magnetic-lock with reversing coils (or if unsure), a 27 V Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) must be used. 7 AUX relay wiring (22 AWG, 1 pair) 8 AUX input wiring (22 AWG, 1 pair) 16 To System Controller (TP-SYS) or previous module VDC input power Verify that at least 10.5 VDC is at each device (with relays energized). Use additional power supplies as necessary. 9 AUX input 18 Dual Door Interface Module (TP-ADD) For large current-draw devices with built-in power supplies, connect the incoming and outgoing module bus +12 VDC lines together, but do not connect to the +12 VDC in the enclosure. Terminal Block (TB) 6 can be used to daisy chain the SNAPP bus. Bring the bus wiring through TB1 and continue the wiring out through TB6. 2 TruPortal Dual Door Interface Module Quick Reference
3 Output Wiring The contact protection circuit must be used. The two circuits shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3 are recommended. Locate the protection circuit as close to the load as possible (within 12 in. [30 cm]), as the effectiveness of the circuit will decrease if it is located further away. Figure 2: Recommended Circuit #1 Magnetic Locks and Other Fail-Safe Door Locks The default door lock wiring is for Fail Secure (powered = unlocked). For magnetic locks and other Fail-Safe door locks (powered = locked), move the Normally Open (NO) wire to Normally Closed (NC) terminal for the specific unlock relay. Note: The System shall not be installed in the Fail Secure mode unless permitted by the local authority having jurisdiction and shall not interfere with the operation of panic hardware.
