Safety Information Safety Information Read these instructions carefully, and look at the equipment to become familiar with the device before trying to install, operate, or maintain it. The following special messages may appear throughout this documentation or on the equipment to warn of potential hazards or to call attention to information that clarifies or simplifies a procedure. The addition of this symbol to a Danger or Warning safety label indicates that an electrical hazard exists, which will result in personal injury if the instructions are not followed. This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey all safety messages that follow this symbol to avoid possible injury or death. DANGER DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. WARNING WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in death or serious injury. CAUTION CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in minor or moderate. CAUTION CAUTION used without the safety alert symbol, indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, can result in equipment damage.. Document (Version...) 5/9/0 5
PLEASE NOTE Safety Information Electrical equipment should be installed, operated, serviced, and maintained only by qualified personnel. No responsibility is assumed by Schneider Electric for any consequences arising out of the use of this material. A qualified person is one who has skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and the installation, and has received safety training to recognize and avoid the hazards involved. BEFORE YOU BEGIN Do not use this product on machinery lacking effective point-of-operation guarding. Lack of effective point-of-operation guarding on a machine can result in serious injury to the operator of that machine. EQUIPMENT OPERATION HAZARD CAUTION Verify that all installation and set up procedures have been completed. Before operational tests are performed, remove all blocks or other temporary holding means used for shipment from all component devices. Remove tools, meters, and debris from equipment. Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage. Follow all start-up tests recommended in the equipment documentation. Store all equipment documentation for future references. Software testing must be done in both simulated and real environments. Verify that the completed system is free from all short circuits and grounds, except those grounds installed according to local regulations (according to the National Electrical Code in the U.S.A, for instance). If high-potential voltage testing is necessary, follow recommendations in equipment documentation to prevent accidental equipment damage. Before energizing equipment: Remove tools, meters, and debris from equipment. Close the equipment enclosure door. Remove ground from incoming power lines. Perform all start-up tests recommended by the manufacturer. OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENTS The following precautions are from the NEMA Standards Publication ICS (English version prevails): Document (Version...) 5/9/0 6
Safety Information Regardless of the care exercised in the design and manufacture of equipment or in the selection and ratings of components, there are hazards that can be encountered if such equipment is improperly operated. It is sometimes possible to misadjust the equipment and thus produce unsatisfactory or unsafe operation. Always use the manufacturer s instructions as a guide for functional adjustments. Personnel who have access to these adjustments should be familiar with the equipment manufacturer s instructions and the machinery used with the electrical equipment. Only those operational adjustments actually required by the operator should be accessible to the operator. Access to other controls should be restricted to prevent unauthorized changes in operating characteristics. Document (Version...) 5/9/0 7
About The Book About The Book At a Glance Document Scope Validity Notes This manual describes operation and maintenance of the 55 Potentiometer Analog Input module. This document is valid for all versions of the 55 Potentiometer Analog Input module. Product Related Information WARNING UNINTENDED EQUIPMENT OPERATION The application of this product requires expertise in the design and programming of control systems. Only persons with such expertise should be allowed to program, install, alter and apply this product. Follow all local and national safety codes and standards. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury or equipment damage. User Comments We welcome your comments about this document. 9 Overview Overview The model 55 potentiometer analog input module adds eight potentiometer analog inputs to the 5000 input/output system. Up to sixteen model 55 modules may be connected to the I/O bus for a total of potentiometer analog inputs per bus. The potentiometer analog inputs can be used as analog input simulators, or as a low cost configuration or input device. The Model 55 utilizes a -bit successive approximation analog to digital converter. A single chip microcontroller with integral watchdog timer operates the A/D and controls communication over the I/O bus. Document (Version...) 5/9/0 9
Installation Installation Address Selection The installation of the 55 module requires mounting the module on the 7.5mm by 35mm DIN rail and connecting the module to the system I/O Bus. Refer to the System Configuration Guide, at the beginning of this manual, for complete information on system layout, I/O Bus cable routing and module installation. The 5000 I/O bus will support a maximum of twenty I/O (input/output) modules I/O module types may be combined in any manner to the maximum supported by the controller used. The types of input and output modules available are: Digital Input modules Digital Output modules Analog Input modules Analog Output modules Counter Input modules Each type of I/O module, connected to the I/O bus, has a unique I/O module address. Different types of I/O modules may have the same module address. The address range supported by the SCADAPack controller module may restrict the I/O module address range. Refer to the controller manual for the maximum address supported. The three address switches labeled,, and set the base channel. The switch labeled 6 is not used. To set the address: Open the three switches by pressing down the left side of the switch. Close the switches that total to the desired address. Figure : 55 Analog Input Address Switches shows the switch setting for each of the module addresses. Document (Version...) 5/9/0 0
Installation How to Set Switches Determine the module address. Press the side of the switches shown in gray above. Press this side to ignore switch value Press this side to add switch value Figure : 55 Analog Input Address Switches Document (Version...) 5/9/0
Operation and Maintenance Operation and Maintenance This module requires no routine maintenance. If the module is not functioning correctly, contact Control Microsystems Technical Support for more information and instructions for returning the module for repair. Input Adjustment Data Format There is one potentiometer for each analog input. The potentiometers are the multiple turn type. This provides very fine control over the analog input value. To adjust the input: Turn the potentiometer adjustment screw clockwise to increase the input value. Turn the potentiometer adjustment screw counter-clockwise to decrease the input value. The input value will stop changing when the potentiometer reaches its limits. The screw will continue to turn analog input and output modules use 6 bit signed numbers (5 bits plus sign). s with less than 6-bit resolution normalize the data into the 6-bit format. The 55 module has a bit, unipolar, analog to digital (A/D) converter. There are 096 A/D counts in the input signal range. The A/D outputs a value in the range 0 to Document (Version...) 5/9/0
