3 SINCE 2003 THE SHORTEST OVERALL LENGTH WIRELESS COMMUNICATION DIGITAL MEMS TECHNOLOGY The RST Digital MEMS Inclinometer Probe with industry leading system accuracy of ±2 mm per 25 m, shown connected to the cable. Since 2003, RST's Inclinometer systems have had the shortest overall length available for a given base length compared to competitive inclinometers. Undaunted, we ve forged ahead and improved on our very own industry-leading specifications. With a new minimum negotiable casing radius of 1.93 m, RST's Digital MEMS Inclinometer can still traverse a smaller radius bend than all other inclinometers available in the industry. A local microcontroller in the probe manages data collection, applies precision digital calibration, and provides a fast settling time which results in very efficient data collection. The Ultra-Rugged Field PC 2 functions as the data collector. It provides a high-level user interface, "at-the-borehole" data analysis and graphical comparison to previous data sets. 6 » inclinometer casing inclinometer systems tilt meters & sensors Inclinometer Casing RST s Inclinometer Casing is engineered to be assembled quickly and accurately for long and short term monitoring in the most adverse field conditions. RST Inclinometer Casing is suited to be installed in boreholes, embankments, piles, set into concrete or attached to structures. It s compatible with all commercially available inclinometer probes, including RST s MEMS Digital Inclinometer Probe. RST manufactures Inclinometer Casing with precision CNC technology. The casing serves as an access tube to guide a MEMS-based inclinometer probe in the two orthogonal directions of measurement. Changes in the output of the probe caused by the deformation of the casing, is proportional to the sine of the angle of inclination of the long sensor axis from vertical. These displacements are incrementally summed to provide profiles of total displacement versus depth. ICB0001M Glue and Snap Inclinometer Casing Snap Seal Inclinometer Casing RST Instruments manufactures two sizes of Inclinometer Casing in either Snap Seal or Glue & Snap coupling styles. Both provide alignment and displacement measurements in numerous applications. Also available as an option in both sizes, High Endurance Casing offers a very homogeneous tubing with extra reinforcement at the location of the connection between casing sections in order to ensure maximal torsional, compressive and bending strength. The High Endurance casing is used in situations where extra robustness is required. Contact RST for more details. manufacturing process Key to quality inclinometer casing is not only the material, but the quality and shape of the grooves. The inclinometer probe utilizes grooves in the casing to control the azimuth of the inclinometer probe. Clearly if the grooves spiral, azimuth control is lost, and the installation becomes questionable if not useless. Successive lengths of casing must join in such a manner so as to permit accurate tracking of the probe between successive casing sections. Spiral of the grooves cause misalignment between sections, causing the probe to jump out of the grooves. Groove shape must accurately mirror the probe wheels in order to prevent probe lateral movement. There are two methods of producing grooved casing: extrusion and machining. While the simplest and cheapest way is to extrude the grooves with the pipe, the extrusion process does not adequately address the parameters of spiral and shape. Machining the grooves produces a higher quality product. All RST casing is machined to insure the highest quality possible. RST casing is manufactured from non-recycled virgin ABS resin. While more costly than common PVC resin, ABS is preferred due to superior flexibility, stability and low temperature impact resistance. OD GLUE & SNAP SPECIFICATIONS - 70 MM Traditional Inclinometer Casing installation methods dictate that screws or pop rivets must be utilized to hold the coupling in shear until the ABS solvent weld cement cures. The requirements for rivets is increased in deep boreholes. Snap Seal is the original O-ring sealed coupling system, which does not require glue, pop rivets, screws, or shear wires. This patented, innovative system allows casing sections to lock together while maintaining precise groove alignment and high collapse strength. The Snap Seal system is flush coupled for ease of installation in hollow stem augers and casing advancers. glue + snap casing Glue & Snap Inclinometer Casing is an improvement on the Snap Seal design and combines the best features of both installation methods with none of the disadvantages. Glue & Snap provides the speed and convenience of a Snap-together flush coupling combined with the low cost and high tensile/ high torsional strength of a glue joint. Installation is simply done by applying a bead of glue to the male end, snap casing together and insert downhole. Telescopic Section telescopic section When vertical heave or settlement is anticipated to exceed 1-2%, Inclinometer Casing Telescoping Sections must be used to allow axial movement of the casing while minimizing distortion due to vertical strain. Telescopic sections must be inserted appropriately extended or collapsed, to accommodate the expected settlement/rebound. Settlement sections are available in 70 mm (2.75 in.) and 85 mm (3.34 in.) and each section can accommodate up to 150 mm (6 in.) of compression or heave. As a general rule, telescopic sections are recommended for use in boreholes, whereas telescopic casing (see separate brochure) is used in embankments that are gradually raised, such as embankments and tailings dams. Another option to accomodate high settlement in boreholes is to use corrugated sleeving over the Inclinometer Casing (see Magnetic Settlement System brochure). 7

8 » inclinometer casing inclinometer systems tilt meters & sensors High Endurance Inclinometer Casing High Endurance inclinometer casing is comprised of ABS casing lengths with no machining at the end, except for an alignment notch. Casing sections of either 1.52 m (5 ft) or 3.05 m (10 ft) are assembled with external tight-fitting slip couplings. By construction, the High Endurance casing is therefore a very homogeneous tubing with extra reinforcement at the location of the connection between casing sections in order to ensure maximal torsional, compressive and bending strength. The High Endurance casing is used in situations where extra robustness is required. For instance, when the casing is installed in a soil formation or an embankment subject to relatively high settlement causing downdrag along the casing, the extra reinforcement ensures that all the strength of the casing will be mobilized. Shear resistance of the casing at the contact between different geological formations is also improved. If the expected settlement is very high, e.g. substantially more than 1-2%, telescopic sections or telescopic casing as described in separate data sheets, should be used. casing specs 70 MM (2.75 IN.) 9 » inclinometer casing inclinometer systems tilt meters & sensors Inclinometer Casing Anchor Control of buoyancy is an important detail of inclinometer casing installation in vertical boreholes and ducts. Buoyancy forces from water, and especially grout, may exert substantial uplift forces on casing prior to setting of the grout. The optimum location for restraint of this uplift force is at the bottom of the casing. Inclinometer Casing Anchors are available for 70 mm and 85 mm casing in both the Snap Seal and Glue & Snap coupling styles. A grouting version of the anchor is also available which houses a connector for an internal tremie line directly inside the anchor itself. Magnetic targets may also be integrated into the anchor assembly. operating principle The Inclinometer Casing Anchor is affixed to the bottom of the inclinometer casing prior to inserting it into the drill-rod/borehole. 10 » inclinometer casing inclinometer systems tilt meters & sensors Telescopic Inclinometer Casing Telescopic Inclinometer Casing is mainly used in embankments that are gradually raised, such as embankment dams and tailings dams, and where the casing will be subject, either locally or along its full length, to large amounts of settlement, typically more than 1 %. The Telescopic Inclinometer Casing is not recommended for use in boreholes where the entire string of casing sections is lowered all at once. For this latter situation, standard inclinometer casing (either Snap Seal or Glue and Snap) with telescopic sections should be preferred (see separate data sheet). The internal guide grooves for the inclinometer probe are precision machined and provide effective control of spiral, straightness, groove shape & depth. Alignment is maintained by screws in the casing and longitudinal slots in the couplings. The couplings accommodate up to 150 mm (6 in.) of compression or extension. 12 » inclinometer casing inclinometer systems tilt meters & sensors Vertical In-place MEMS Inclinometer Vertical In-place MEMS Inclinometer Systems are designed to measure lateral movement of soil and rock or deflection of man made structures such as piles or retaining walls, when remote and continuous monitoring is required. In-place inclinometers consist of one or more MEMS inclinometer sensors housed in a mm (1.25 in.) diameter, water-tight, stainless steel enclosure. Each sensor is separated from the next by stainless steel rods and wheel assemblies. Rod lengths can be varied to alter the gauge length and sensors can be concentrated in areas of expected movement. Wheel assemblies are sized to fit 70 mm (2.75 in.) or 85 mm (3.34 in.) O.D. inclinometer casing. As movement occurs and the inclinometer casing deforms, each sensor can be automatically monitored and can be read at a remote readout location. The DT2040 is a purpose built logger ideal for remote locations or for instruments that will require frequent reliable data recording. 32 L900 SYSTEM Wireless technology providing continuous data acquisition. The RSTAR Array Radio Series uses wireless technology to provide continuous data acquisition. A complete RSTAR L900 System uses L900 RSTAR Nodes at the sensor level, deployed in a star topology from a continuously active L900 RSTAR Hub, which consists of an L900 RTU interfaced to a FlexDAQ datalogger. The RSTAR Array Radio Series is based on the 900 MHZ, 868 MHz and 2.4 GHz spread spectrum band (country dependent) with extensive open-country range through use of simple dipole or directional antennae. A complete RSTAR L900 System is packet-oriented, and consists of slave RSTAR Nodes (DT2011B, DT2055B, DT2040 for VW instruments, DT4205 for 4-20mA transmitters and IC6560, IC6660 Tiltloggers, with a L900 Radio and Antenna kit) and a L900 RTU (master) which is a DIN-rail mounted module in the flexdaq enclosure. The RSTAR L900 nodes wake from low power and collect data from their attached sensors, such as Vibrating Wire Piezometers. This data, which includes RTU node address, address, node serial number, diagnostics, data, and CRC check, is then sent wirelessly as a packet to the L900 RTU. Upon reception to the flexdaq, the L900 RTU will issue an ACK signal which may include clock synchronization and rate data. The L900 RTU stores the data in a temporary register set which is overwritten as new data is received; there is an intermediate data logging g function in the RSTAR L900 Node. The datalogger within the flexdaq has ultimate responsibility for logging data. Power requirements for a single RSTAR L900 node is one lithium D cell. The flexdaq can be powered by a solar panel, batteries or AC power. L900 RSTAR Radios and Antennas can be ordered at a later date, or at time of initial ordering. An L900 RSTAR decal is also supplied for each unit to allow for proper identification. An RST DT2011B Single Channel Vibrating Wire Data Logger attached to an RST Vibrating Wire Piezometer. The program runs on Windows, with full functionality under Windows Server. GeoViewer operates on a LabVIEW platform, which has facilitated the evolution of the product, to support multiple loggers, on-web serving of data, numerous devices, web events, mobile access etc. The robust, fast, feature-rich, ever-improving LabVIEW platform permits new functionality to be added readily. 36

37 DATA SOURCE & PRESENTATION ALARM FUNCTIONS Much GeoViewer data originates in data loggers which transmit their data by various logger-specific means to files which are locally or remotely accessible to the GeoViewer server. Because of this file model, any file with a public format which contains time-stamped data may be presented in GeoViewer: spreadsheets, databases, comma-separated text files, GPS data, public weather data, etc. Designed for efficient use, data presentation is typically shown as views as indicated below: MIMIC VIEW: - with stoplight (green/yellow/red/blue/grey for ok/warning/alarm/ alarm-off/stale data) buttons which drill down into other views LISTS VIEW: - with stoplight coloured numeric fields TIME SERIES PLOTS: - with one or more channels with alarm levels, different sampling rates EXAGGERATED PROFILES: - for inclinometers, tilt beams, etc. LINKED FILES: - installation photos, logger programs, calibrations, notes, all one mouse click away from the data Full featured alarms are available for all channels, calculations from channels, communication status, etc. The alarms include high/low warn and alarm levels, hysteresis, event triggers, alarm levels computed from data, device outputs, privilege alarm mask. It is suggested that not every channel be alarmed and alarms be implemented incrementally to minimize nuisance alarms. WEB FUNCTIONALITY GeoViewer utilizes Internet communications in numerous ways. Data acquisition may use wired or wireless web communication as a link in a communications chain, local and wide area networks may be used to access data files outside the GeoViewer server, back-up may use offsite resources. Mobile-Friendly Views End users may view data by remote computer or mobile device, and receive alarms by , text messages etc. Privileged users can maintain the system from offsite, typically by VPN (virtual private network) remote access. Because of the limited screen size of mobile devices, mobile-friendly views are typically required, with large buttons and reduced clutter. Viewing Controls Static web viewing is controlled by IP friend list. Advanced viewing, alarm acknowledge etc. is controlled by access licence and individual password. Maintenance at local or remote console per VPN typically uses customer IT security methods. CALIBRATION & COMPUTATION With all data storage in raw format, calibration is typically performed on-the-fly using a calibration database. Numerous functions are available: linear, polynomial, transcendental, relational across the entire system (not just within a logger). Deferred calibration is a powerful maintenance tool: if the calibration of a sensor is found to be incorrect, the appropriate calibration page is edited, and the entire record is automatically updated from the first reading.
