An accelerometer measures acceleration or G force; this may be static, such as gravity, or dynamic, such as produced by changes in velocity (direction) of an object in motion. Angular rate sensors are unique in that they require no frame of reference to function; an angular rate sensor installed in an airplane will tell you how quickly the aircraft is turning. In contrast, a car s wheel speed sensor must be mounted in the frame of reference, in this case the car body, to be able to measure the speed of the wheel rotating next to it. A pressure sensor is a device that generates an electrical signal as a function of the pressure measured in a media (i.e. gas or liquid). It includes a monolithic sensing element and an IC interface able to take the information from the sensing element and to provide a digital signal to the external world. Silicon Microphones or MEMS (MicroElectrical-Mechanical System) Microphones have a pressure sensitive diaphragm etched directly into silicon through MEMS processing technology. With the help of advanced MEMS processing technologies, silicon microphones offer the advantages of smaller size and higher overall performance compared to the popular electret condenser microphone (ECM).
